I am confused about why The Holy Spirit...
Posted : 19 Jan, 2010 12:16 PM
...seems to give one person an interpretation of Scripture and then gives another person an entirely different interpretation of that same verse or chapter.
I will hear people say The Holy Spirit "convicted me" or showed me or "Opened up my eyes" and gave me this Interpretation of this verse or chapter. They say this because they asked for The Holy Spirit to help them and they felt that He did.
So...does this mean that The Holy Spirit gives different interpretations to different people or is The Holy Spirit schizophrentic or are we just fooling ourselves and believing what we want to believe.
Do we have a Final Court of Appeal that we can go to and know that what they say is the Truth. What does Scripture say is the Pillar and Foundation of all truth. Because there is where we could go and have our questions answered with assurity of being correct.
The Pillar and Foundation of ALL TRUTHS! This would be where we can find All Truths! But where is the Pillar and Foundation of all Truths! Search for it in Scripture...it will be illuminating...it may change your life.
2 Kepha (Peter) 3:15-16 says that many turn the writings around to say different things also in Yohanan Bet (2 John) 1:7-9 gives us a way to see if what someone is saying is truth
Shalom brothers and sisters may the peace of YAHWAH be with you always
How do you know that what you feel is the correct interpretation of a Verse in Scripture is what the author intended?
Where do you go to in order to have your question answered. I believe that most of you agree that Scripture would have an answer for that...of where to go when you have a dispute or a misunderstanding of Doctrine that neeeds to be explained or interpretated.
Is it your Pastor? Whatever he or she says is it and that's the end of it. Or do you just find as many people that agree with you and form your own church or group?
Scripture should be able to answer this question. It should say that Scripture is the Pillar and Foundation of All Truths.
Christ promised that His Church would remain intact...inviolate...not a drop of the Deposit of Faith left with Peter and The Apsotles would be changed or altered or lost and would remain until He Returns.
Find out what Scripture says about Pillar and Foundation of All Truth.
The Church Christ was talking about is not a particular church body as in a Denomination. He was referring to the body of Believers that exists throughout the world.
It could never be The Roman Catholic Church as they drifited away from "The Faith onced delivered to the Saints". Their teachings are far from the Truth of God's Word. If one carefully considers what the Vatican teaches as to how one obtains salvation and what the scriptures teach, you cannot consider the Roman Catholic Church as being Christian.
Are you agreeing with Scripture then when it tells us in
1 Timothy 3:15
That the Church is "the pillar and foundation of truth..."
That's good to hear and a great place to start. So if Scripture tells us that The Church is the one that holds the complete Deposit of Faith and She is the one that was instructed to "hold fast" to these Truths and Christ gave His Bride...His Church...the Holy Spirit to Ensure that She would NOT be corrupted and that She would remain untouched by the "gates of hades" waiting for His return. And if we are to Believe Christ...where then was this Church back then and is She still around as Christ Himself Promised?
Remember...Jesus spoke of a "chruch upon a hill"...not of some symbolic church in the skies. He did not refer to His Church as "the Body of believers" (although it could be said that we are His Chruch).
Christ does not lie and he does not play word games with us. He left us a Real Church...with a Real Vicar...with the Complete Deposit of faith that He gave to The Apostles and Peter.
Find that One Real Church that Scripture speaks of and you will find your Final Court of Appeal and the Church that is the Pillar and Foundation of Truth.
Yes...She is not perfect (men still run her), but a doctor does not have to be healthy in order to administer pennicillin or speak the Truth. God has a way of using our frailities and shortcomings towards Good!
Seek and you shall find. Hold to your own reasoning and conjuring and you will be decieved. Great Christians died for the Church you try to invalidate. For Centuries She was the only Church with no Outcry of "Blasphemy". Christ Promised She would be still here when He Returns...premillenium...postmillenium...submillenium...trilateralmellenium...milli-millenium. Whatever. seek for the Truth.
I meant to put a smiley face in the last post so as not to seem as if I was upset...I wasn't. We are all Brothers and Sisters...and we are all going to the same place.:applause:
I know, pick me!! The bible is it's own interpreter. I know I say that a lot, but it is the truth! Weigh scripture with scripture, it is the only way to study the bible. Instead of putting your own interpretation on a verse, search the scriptures for other places that talk about the same thing, gather a whole view of the bible, and interpret that one verse YOU had trouble with...with the rest of God's word. The wrong way to study is to find one verse, decide what it means...and then search the bible for verses that support what you already decided is the meaning of the original verse. In essence, reinterpreting the bible with one verse. Bad idea. The other wrong way to study the bible is to not study it at all, and lean on a organization/committee for your interpretation. The church is a fallible institution, as seen by the constant correction the apostles were always handing out. Not only that, there are false churches, preachers, teachers, and prophets. The bible is the only source of truth we should trust. The bible even warns about people teaching traditions as doctrine....which is constantly happening. Anyway...I do not believe the Holy Spirit leads people to "different truths". It is our own pride, ignorance, sinful nature, and presumption that does that. So what can we trust? God's word. The final judge on any supposed "truth" is..."if they speak not according to this word...", then that's it...not true.
Scripture says that "...the Pillar and Foundation of Truth is The Church...".
My question is...what does that mean? If you read it and translate it literally it is saying that The Church has all the Truth. That if you want an answer to a question on Morals or Faith...ask The Church. She knows the answer.
This makes sense. Christ left everything He taught and Preached...His Plan of Salvation...with His Bride and entrusted her with keeping everything intact and uncorrupted and also left Her The Holy Spirit to keep His Promise that She would be there when He returned.
Claiming that Scripture validates and confirms it's own Divine Origin is Circular Reasoning and can be used to validated any "book"...such as the koran or Mormon bible.
No ...Scripture is declared Divinely Inspired by God by The Church. The very Church that Jesus started. The very same Church that decided which of the over 300 books and letters that were being circulated around as being inspired by God would go into the New Testament.
Only the Church started by God could do this.
Jesus knew how we would treat His Plan of Salvation and how we would try and get ourselves recognition for it. He knew how easily we would get confused.
When He asked "Whom do you say I Am?"
He got 4 different answers! This from men that walked with Him...slept with Him...saw the miracles. 4 answers...wrong...wrong...wrong...wrong!
Can you imagine almost 2000 years later how much more confused we can be? That is why Jesus established a Teaching Church with The Complete Deposit of Faith in Her.
Makes Sense? One Church One Deposit of Faith. One horse...one rider...one book....one teacher.
Having 30,000 churches each teaching something a little different than the others...whether it's pre or post or sprinkled or submerged or Calvin or Theodore...is not what Christ meant when He said that The Gates of hades would not prevail against His Church.
We need to submit to the authority Christ left here on earth to guide us and strenghten us. We just have to decide which Church that is.:purpleangel:
John 1:3-5 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
Wisdom from the Spirit
1 Cor. 10-15 The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment.
Spiritual Gifts
1 Cor. 12:4-11 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongue, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.
Brother Arch, these are all I can share for now, still learning from His words day by day.
...but the point is...HOW do you decide which church it is? By how long it's been around, or by how closely it's following the precepts of God? I'm not sure what you're trying to say here...the bible should submit to a church? If a church is wrong, who cares? Just be part of it? Nope. We should reject a church that is unbiblical, just like we should reject/correct a false teacher/prophet/preacher with "it is written". We know truth through the scripture, not through what a church decides, right? Which came first? The egg?
And the circular reasoning thing ...I'm not trying to "prove" the bible. Prophecy and history prove it. I'm trying to understand it, and if it's already been proven by history and what it teaches, then I can use the bible to understand a truth that it teaches by looking at a whole view of the bible. Not just one verse. Great example here. One verse that "supersedes" all the other verses that refer to the bible as the authority. And above all else, if a church is continually disregarding God's word or changing God's commands, then I do not believe it is God's church...or even close to it. The bible is pretty clear about what happens when men teach people to break God's commands. I don't want to be anywhere near a church that doesn't teach people to follow God as closely as possible. I'll stick with the bible.:rocknroll:
P.S. And if His disciples had studied their bible they would have gotten the question right, lol...
