nomoreusernamesleft View Profile History	Modem Psychology And Biblical Truth Posted : 4 Nov, 2025 09:56 PM I see very foundational disagreements between modern psychology and what God says about the heart of man and the condition of mankind. God says "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. " Modern psychology obscures sin, but actually villifies those that would address sin as evil. In the basic foundational doctrine of psychology, to address the "nature vs nurture" is the explanation of why we make choices that we do and to point the finger of blame at either our genetic disposition or the environment that we were raised in, for the choices that we make. I wanted to start a discussion of conflicts between modern psychology and biblical truth because psychology has been introduced into theology and I don't see that they are cohesive, in any way that I've been able to discern. A study of the founders of psychology and their worldviews also show extreme prejudice against the Lord and his words. But let's look at some examples of how psychology is in conflict with God's words. Psychology says that depression is a serious mood disorder characterized by persistent sadness, loss of interest, and other symptoms that interfere with daily life. God says that grief and sorrow are good things and not a disorder because they generate contemplation of the heart. "With much wisdom comes much grief and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow." "Sorrow maketh the heart better" Jesus was a man of sorrows, well acquainted with grief. Has anyone ever recognized conflicts between modern psychology and biblical doctrine? Does anyone have any examples of how they might compliment each other? Post Reply

Apparently I used my 3 message daily limit. The reason I asked you if you wouldn't mind sharing your testimony of how you came to the faith is because the testimony of the Lord makes edifies the saints of God and also is a great way to share the gospel by telling others how they were redeemed! I've never met a brother or sister in Christ that wasn't eager to share how the Lord saved them! I have met many people that identify themselves as "Christians," but don't have the testimony of how they became born again because they went though a traditional rite of passage or they were brought up in "church" and think that they've always "believed. " but never were actually regenerated after finding mercy through Jesus Christ. Jesus warned of much deception in the faith in these last days. It's important to know that and to always be ready to address contradictions in the things that we believe, if we love the truth. Jesus Christ is the truth and his words are truth and change not. So that's the foundation of the faith of the saints and the prophets and the best bovine scat filter there ever could be. Jesus said "My sheep hear my voice" and that is by his Holy Spirit and his Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth which only leads his people in truth and never into deceptions. With so much deception in the faith in these days, it really is of utmost importance that we do as Jesus commanded, taking heed unto ourselves that no man deceive us. And be vigilant to guard our own hearts so that our hearts don't deceive us. The heart is the most deceptive thing above all things and desperately wicked. Our hearts at certainly not prone to be in agreement with God's words, so there's that. Post Reply

The only thing that you presented was that he's a doctor, as psychologist and an author. A "Christian psychologist" has to be licensed by the state and in that, they have guidelines they must follow that are within modern psychology. They're allowed to wrest the scriptures to fit modern physiology philosophy, but they have to compromise the truth in order to maintain their licensing, so there's that. Post Reply

You might want to take a look at the following book by Richard Ganz, PsychoBabble: The Failure of Modern Psychology--and the Biblical Alternative The book isn’t about Dr John Townsend, to my knowledge doesn’t mention him, but it points out problems within the psychological profession that I think you’ll find helpful. In my first reply after the original post, I linked a very excellent presentation by Dave Hunt where he dissects psychology with a very solid biblical analysis. It's probably the best presentation I've ever found in the subject. Post Reply
