The generally agreed-upon definition of “deliverance ministry” will usually focus on the casting out of demons or spirits in an attempt to solve problems related to specific demons. For example, a deliverance minister may seek to help someone overcome anger by casting out a spirit of anger. Deliverance ministries also focus on tearing down spiritual strongholds in one’s life, finding inner healing, and claiming the victory in Christ over all enemies. Many refer to soul ties, curses, and the “legal rights” of demons. Biblically, demons or evil spirits are known to be fallen angels that rebelled in heaven with Satan (Revelation 12:4, 9; Isaiah 14:12–20; Ezekiel 28:1–19).
There is certainly quite a bit in Scripture about Satan and his horde of demons. There is little said about deliverance from them, and nothing said about deliverance as a “ministry.” The offices of the church are found in Ephesians 4:11. First were the apostles and prophets, the foundation of the church—with Jesus being the Chief Cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20). Next are listed evangelists, then pastors, and teachers. The ability to cast out demons is not listed as a spiritual gift or a ministerial duty.
The Gospels and Acts relate that Jesus and the disciples cast out demons. The teaching portions of the New Testament (Romans through Jude) refer to demonic activity yet do not discuss the method of casting them out, nor are believers exhorted to do so. We are told to put on the whole armor of God to stand against spiritual wickedness (Ephesians 6:10–18). We are told to resist the devil (James 4:7) and not give him room in our lives (Ephesians 4:27). However, we are not told how to cast him or his demons out of others, or that we should even consider doing so.
It is interesting that we have no record of Jesus’ instructions to His disciples on how to cast out demons, with the possible exceptions of Matthew 12:43–45 and 17:19–21, where some insight is given. When the disciples discovered that demons were subject to them in the name and authority of Jesus, they were joyful (Luke 10:17; cf. Acts 5:16; 8:7; 16:18; 19:12). But Jesus told the disciples, “Do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven” (Luke 10:20).
Rather than being given a specific “deliverance ministry,” we have an authority in the powerful name of Jesus. One day, John said to Jesus, “We saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.’ ‘Do not stop him,’ Jesus said. ‘For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, for whoever is not against us is for us’” (Mark 9:38–40). Authority over demons is clearly the power of the Lord at work, whether or not the exorcist has a special ministry of deliverance.
The emphasis in spiritual warfare is highlighted in verses such as 1 John 4:4, “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world [the devil].” The victory is ours because of the Holy Spirit who dwells within us. Believers can overcome their struggles with the past, habits, and addictions, because “everyone born of God overcomes the world” (1 John 5:4). We need prayer, godly counsel, and the support of a good church, but not necessarily a “deliverance minister.”
We are told to “be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith. . . . And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast” (1 Peter 5:8–10).
The key to victory in the Christian life is to be filled (controlled and empowered) with the Holy Spirit on a moment-by-moment basis (Ephesians 5:18). The Father knows who are His: “Those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God” (Romans 8:14). The Holy Spirit will not indwell anyone who is not born again (John 3:3–8; 2 Timothy 2:19; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 3:16), so the first step in spiritual victory is to place our faith in Jesus Christ. Then, rejoice that Jesus is in you and you have His power and His victory.
FaithfulPilgrim, thanks once again for your thoughtful and well written replies. I’m finding agreement in much of what you post.
Nevertheless, some things you write have generated a few more questions and I hope you don’t mind fielding questions along the way.
I have several questions to ask based on your responses posted on this thread but l feel it’s perhaps more appropriate to ask no more than one or more questions per post.
I’m wanting to understand your perspective as fully as possible, therefore, l’m seeking additional clarity.
I’m quoting a paragraph from a reply you posted to moonlight above, a few messages ago. In that post you said the following:
QUOTE “Imagine if the Lord Jesus were here on earth today, what would His ministry look like? I think it would look exactly like it did then as far as many people being saved and set free. I would dare say that we do see Him now in churches all over the world - the Gospel is preached, people are saved, people are healed, demons are cast out, the blind see, dead are raised.... To be a Christian is to obey and believe what the Lord Jesus said like He said in Mark 16:15-18, "And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” END QUOTE
I quoted the full paragraph in order to establish the context you asserted. But my question in this post concerns the contents here—more specifically the miraculous aspects you claim are taking place in churches today that you’ve compared to Jesus’ earthly ministry: QUOTING YOU HERE: “I would dare say that we do see Him now in churches all over the world - the Gospel is preached, people are saved, people are healed, demons are cast out, the blind see, dead are raised...“END QUOTE
Ok, at this point, I’ll share the basis for the following question.
Based on reports of Jesus’s miraculous healing activities that were performed and recorded in the Bible, it’s appears many or all of Jesus’s miracles were performed publicly and could easily be verified because those who were healed were known to others in each community. Even the false teachers who disputed Jesus credentials as the Messiah couldn’t deny his miraculous power!!
Ok fast forward to claims of Jesus’s miracles today.
Today’s “miracle workers” not only have modern facilities and media and jet planes to fly them and their cameras to remote parts of the world, but they also have big money!! Curiously these “healers” still find it difficult to assemble a compelling case for genuine healing and miraculous authenticity.
Now, at this point. I’m asking you to provide the missing evidence, that others have failed to provide. Please show proof that Jesus’ miracles are actually taking place as you’ve indicated?
My guess is, that by now we ought have multitudes of resurrected people and people who’ve experienced miraculous healings and are eager to step forward with verifiable testimonials—all gladly given for the glory of God.
They ought to be able to display indisputable evidence or even news accounts or even documents which would include official death certificates proving beyond a shadow of a doubt they they were once dead for perhaps 4 or more days but were raised to life again just like Lazarus!!
Eye witness accounts ought be serving up reliable testimonials proving these dead people really died and were raised to life. Yet to date, no such evidence exists.
In fact. No verifiable quadriplegic has ever been restored instantaneously and completely >>>like what Jesus did for such people <<<‼️
No known verifiable mentally handicapped (retarded person) has been instantaneously healed and restored >>>like what Jesus did for such people<<<‼️
No known person with a missing limb has been instantaneously restored >>>like what Jesus did for such people <<<‼️
FaithfulPilgrim, how to you account for such a significant lack of cohesive testimonials??
I would argue, if Jesus were here today, his indisputable miraculous healings would be eagerly sought after because his miracles would be authentic and uncontested.
But tragically, even people today would kill him, just like those before, because Jesus’ preaching against people’s love of sin would not be tolerated today just like it wasn’t before. Folks today would love Jesus’ healing power, they just wouldn’t love him.
I was hoping to further clarify the basis for my question but I may strayed a bit from that but my intention was to add clarity and be respectful
Please read the following Scripture: Luke 1:8-45. In this account, an angel was sent from God to Zacharias to annouce the birth of John but he appears to have doubted the angel saying, in verse 18, “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.” The angel said to him in verse 20, "But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time.” Also look at what the Word also says in Luke 1:34, "Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against.
It seems that Mary believed God when the angel visited her and said that she would give birth to the Son of God and her response in verse 38 was, Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her."
Christians should choose to believe God and what He says in His Word because the world doubts and speaks against God. Faith is taking God at His Word.
Some Scriptures that support this are: Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?"
Also, God reveals Himself to those who obey and believe His Word so sometimes disobedience and unbelief can cause us to miss what is right in front of our eyes - like the Lord Jesus said in the following verses:
John 14:21-24 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?” Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me."
I personally have heard a couple of testimonies of healing from a couple of people I know and while there are no doctor's reports, these are people that I know and went to church with - one guy who was raised in Jamaica was sick when he was about 16 years old and he couldn't eat because everything he ate just passed through his system and he passed maggots and food when he went. He said that he was about 56 pounds as a teenager but his grandmother took him to a church where they heard healings were happening and the minister called him up and prayed for him and said that God was going to heal him and bless him with wisdom and strength. He said after he went home he went to the bathroom and had an extremely strong bowel movement where he passed everything out of his system and from that day he began to gain weight and now he's in his 50s and looks like a body builder. Another pastor from a church in Wichita Falls, TX shared that as a child, he loved to pray and would pray for hours and at some point he developed a condition where he had a condition where he had sores all over his body that were not healing. He said he had a vision where he saw a cross and the Lord Jesus said he wanted him to give his life to Him. One morning he said he woke up and the sores were gone and there were only white spots where the sores had been that slowly faded with time.
We also have to remember that the Lord Jesus' mission is Salvation - to bring people back to God so the greatest Miracle that we see in all churches is when someone comes to the Lord and He writes their names in Heaven. Like the Lord Jesus said in Luke 10:19-20,
"Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” Also He says in John 6:39-40, This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
We have to realize that the enemy does not want people to believe so even when miracles do happen, people doubt and do not believe. I know we have to be careful of people faking miracles but as Christians, we must believe because God said these things would happen in His Word.
Like Isaiah the prophet said in John 12:37-41, "But although He had done so many signs before them, they did not believe in Him, that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke: “Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again: “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, Lest they should see with their eyes, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.” These things Isaiah said when he saw His glory and spoke of Him."
Look also at the Lord Jesus' response to Thomas in the following John 20:24-29, Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” So he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.” And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!” Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.” And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”
Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
I will say that we have all seen the greatest Miracle of Salvation occur all over the world and really that is the purpose of the Miracles so people will believe and come to Christ. Many times when I have heard of raising the dead, the lame walking, etc, they have been overseas in poorer nations and they seem to pray more and believe God more. It does seem that James 2:5 "holds true where it says, Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?"
I included a few testimonials that I've seen on youtube that show the power of God. If you decide to watch them, please pray and consider the following scripture before watching:
Mark 3:22-30 And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, “He has Beelzebub,” and, “By the ruler of the demons He casts out demons.” So He called them to Himself and said to them in parables: “How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan has risen up against himself, and is divided, he cannot stand, but has an end. No one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. And then he will plunder his house. “Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation”— because they said, “He has an unclean spirit.”

LittleDavid, our duty as Christians is to obey and believe what God has said in His Word - yes we should be wise and test what we see by His Word but all Christians should believe what He has said.
FaithfulPilgrim, I’m very disappointed in your responses.
I was hoping that just maybe I finally found someone who has truly witnessed the same type of miracles performed by Jesus and the apostles.
But alas, all l received from you is more of the same O imitations of the real thing.
The stuff you provided is nothing more than natural healings. A psychic website could boast and claim the same!!
I’m also disappointed FaithfulPilgrim because it looks as if you ignored my question—anyway you didn’t answer. But,,, perhaps you didn’t read my post or the question. Did you—btw—read my entire post or—see the question??
I can tell you that I am earnestly reading your posts. I even looked up the 3 sites you recommended, although I could find only the 1st and 3rd.
Faithful, l specifically asked for evidence of >>>instantaneous miracles<<<, like those performed by Jesus. But all you sent was a “progressive healing” on the 3rd site and an unqualified clinal death on the first site.
FaithfulPilgrim, surly you know several people have been “pronounced death” but have “come back to life”. That’s a medical marvel but it’s not a biblical miracle!!!
Faithful, a “progressive healing” is just a natural healing.
How could you be impressed with a healing to took over “several weeks” but even then was obviously not complete??? Didn’t you see how the woman walked??? Faithpilgrim. Every day “progressive healings” take place, sometimes after weeks and weeks of therapy, but again, they happen frequently.
But it appears your site managers were quite desperate to justify the woman’s veeeery slow recovery as miraculous, so they appealed to the 2 step healing of the blind man healed by Jesus!!
Faithfulpilgrims!!
What a stretch!!! Don’t you agree??
In reality, JESUS HEALED THE BLIND MAN INSTANTANEOUSLY IN 2 STEPS‼️ There’s NO comparison!!
Faithfulpilgim, don’t you recall how Jesus and Paul healed crippled people⁉️ ALL THEIR HEALINGS WERE INSTANTANEOUS‼️‼️ CRIPPLED PEOPLE IMMEDIATELY JUMPED UP AND DANCED‼️‼️‼️ It didn’t take weeeeeeeks to recover‼️‼️‼️‼️
Faithful, I specifically asked for a biblical resurrection similar to that of Lazarus—remember Lazarus was dead for 4 days—obviously Lazarus’s death was not a mere case as an unqualified clinical death.
Faithful. As for the other site, that I couldn’t get up, may I assume it’s the same stuff??
Very very disappointed in you faithfulpilgrim.
Nevertheless, on the plus side, your efforts have further solidified my case.
FaithfulPilgrim, I admonish you to live up to your screen name and be FAITHFUL‼️ Stop doubting the scripture‼️‼️ Stop looking all around the place for psychic and witch doctor level “miracles” to compare to Jesus‼️ Start praising God for the TRUE miracles HE performed in scripture.
Your response is interesting because I did read your post although I may have strayed a bit so will read it again. I will say this, I am not deceived because I believe what the Lord Jesus said in His Word and healing does occur to this day. It is He that gives us power to stand and to wake up each day and to see.
LIttleDavid,
I don't like to argue especially since we both have received the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus said in John 17:17, "Sanctify them by Your Truth. Your Word is Truth." Christians should choose to believe what God has said in His Word and not what the world has taught us because in the last day, it is His Word that will judge us. Like the Lord Jesus said in John 12:48 "He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him— the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day."
You know what the Scribes and Pharisees said about the Lord Jesus, John 7:12, And there was much complaining among the people concerning Him. Some said, “He is good”; others said, “No, on the contrary, He deceives the people.” God knows those who are His and unless you can talk to those people, how do we know. Also since it is God who heals, He can choose to do so instantly or over time. When the Lord Jesus returns, He will reveal the Truth to all about those things and those areas in which we are wrong He will correct us. I say for now it is better to focus on the primary mission of salvation and since God is the one who does it, just trust Him that He saves completely and provides each person whatever is needed. So let's just agree to get along as family in Christ and focus on those areas we agree on.
Romans 14:4 Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.
5 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks. 7 For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. 9 For to this end Christ died [b]and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living. 10 But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 11 For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.” 12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. 13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way.
I'll repost that second video in another post but as far as proving that God still heals, delivers, raises the dead, and opens blind eyes, it is God's work so He is the One who can persuade you and not me.
FaithfulPilgrim, I’m responding to your latest post by copy paste and will insert my responses accordingly.
I’m not angry with you, I’m direct, but I’m not angry.
I appreciate your perseverance in trying to convince me, without evidence, that Jesus is still working miracles in the same way he preformed miracles in the New Testament, but in the New Testament, Jesus’s miracles are clearly documented and believable.
But your “evidence” amounts to nothing more than a low level downgrade of biblical miracles. I wish you would realize that you’re actually making Jesus look like a modern day witch doctor!! Sorry to say that to you, but I’m saying it in love! FaithfulPilgrim, I’ll repeat this again just as I have throughout this discourse, Jesus’s miracles are an evidence of his GREAT POWER—and—HIS MIRACLES proved without a doubt that he is indeed ALMIGHTY GOD.
Ok, back to the thread posts. In the following, I’ve sectioned off your latest posts and I’ve inserted my responses to each section of yours accordingly.
FAISTHFULPILGRIM: LittleDavid, Your response is interesting because I did read your post although I may have strayed a bit so will read it again. I will say this, I am not deceived because I believe what the Lord Jesus said in His Word and healing does occur to this day. It is He that gives us power to stand and to wake up each day and to see.
LITTLEDAVID: Ok, if you read my post, why did you not answer the question I posed? Why did you not provide the kind of biblical evidence I specifically requested? Yes, I agree, natural healing occurs today (we should be thankful to God for that) but those ARE NOT the kind of HIGH POWERED INSTANTANEOUS miraculous healing performed by Jesus!! Otherwise, you would have provided evidence for HIGH POWERED miracles but you did not. (I’m using caps only to emphasize). Oddly enough, you referred to “standing and waking each morning”. Faithfulpilgrim! Those are NATURAL abilities but yes, they are a cause for thanksgiving. Obviously God is responsible for us living another day—BUT—waking in the morning is NOT the same as commanding a person born blind to see instantaneously and completely!! FaithfulPilgrim ARE you following me???
FAITHFULPILGRIM: I don't like to argue especially since we both have received the Lord Jesus Christ.
LITTLEDAVID: I agree with you, FaithfulPilgrim, a person ought to believe what God says in his Word about the miracles recorded in the BIBLE and stop believing in the WORLD’S DEFINITION for miracles‼️‼️ EVERYTHING you’ve provided as proof amounts merely to ordinary NATURAL healings that you assume to be biblical miracles!! Don’t you realize the Bible warns against false SATANIC MIRACLES intended to deceive⁉️ By claiming natural healings are biblically miraculous, YOU’RE actually PREPARING PEOPLE TO BELIEVE IN SATAN’S FALSE MIRACLES‼️‼️ I’m saying that as kindly as I can but I want you to get the point. Stop calling progressive natural healings something they’re not. Some of healings are certainly marvelous, but—“marvelous” isn’t always the same as biblically miraculous!!
FAITHFULPILGRIM: You know what the Scribes and Pharisees said about the Lord Jesus, John 7:12, And there was much complaining among the people concerning Him.
LITTLEDAVID: Obviously at one end of the spectrum there will be those who won’t believe the truth even if it smacks them in the face because they’ve hardened their hearts, see Romans 1. At the other end of the spectrum, there will also be those who gullibly believe Satanic miracles. See 2 Thessalonians 2:9
FAITHFULPILGRIM: Romans 14:4 Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.
LITTLEDAVID: FaithfulPigrim, I’m not surprised you’ve seen fit to apply the world’s favorite verse—an abused scripture out of context concerning a specific kind of “judging”. Seems you might have found a more legitimate escape device.
FAITHFULPILGRIM: 5 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike.
LITTLEDAVID: You seem to think it’s ok to judge others inappropriately as if it were they did not believe in God simply because they refuse to accept your WORLD’S DEFINITION of “miracle”.
FAITHFULPILGRIM: I'll repost that second video in another post but as far as proving that God still heals, delivers, raises the dead, and opens blind eyes, it is God's work so He is the One who can persuade you and not me.
LITTLEDAVID: God’s word has already proven to me that that GOD is able do REAL miracles. You, however, have yet to prove its ok to supplement Jesus’s real miracles with low level worldly “miracles” that even a witch doctor or a placebo could claim as “miralcous”. FaithfulPilgrim, neither a witch doctor nor a placebo pill could EVER do what Jesus did!!
PLEASE stop equating progressive natural healings at the same level with Jesus’s POWERFUL miraculous signs and wonders‼️‼️
