As soon as it was night, the believers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. As a result, many of them believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men.
The Bereans were considered more noble. Why? Because, they didn't just take Paul's words at face value. They studied the scriptures and checked what he said against them. They used their brains.
Reminds me of when Jesus said that the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these(meaning children). Know what one of the things that children do? They ask questions. Lots of them. They also test things.
I don't care what you prefer, this is my thread! Why do you get to have a preference on what Bible version is used on your threads, but I don't get to have a preference on my threads?
When the christians gather together they are not allowed to say anything, as it is against the rules set by the self appointed person called pastor.
This violates the Scriptures concerning the meeting of the people, 1 Corinthians 14 .
The christians sit in silence without any chance to participate , as the pastor thinks his so called message is not to be challenged.
When christians meet, where is the Holy Spirit, His power and presence, they are not there, as the Spirit is grieved by the christians violating the Word concerning they way they are to be meeting.
First of all, it cant be quite correct to say children ask questions and are the correct example to be as the Berean Jews to search things. Children question everything of this world, and it is even in this thread in a verse already, about that very thing, how we speak and be as a child with understanding as a child( of this world) but we become men in the Lord, men of understanding then put away understanding of this world...
1 Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
Next, Quiznos has somehow talked about half of the thread topic. He has talked about how the Pastor controls the churches, and the " Christians" there hear and do not question or search out that man, for it is just a man, or a woman even these days who is that "teacher"
What was omitted however, was simply the real words of this chapter in Acts 17. First, see how Holy Apostle Paul enters into the church of the day for the Jews, reasoning with them, and did not respect the teacher there, but following after Christ, testifies of Christ against all who deny the Messiah to keep their own ways, beliefs and comforts. Some believed but the reception was not too great, Paul was hated as Christ was, for the testimony and as all who preach Christ would be hated of all men...
Acts 17:1 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:
2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.
Paul then flees to Berea, which shows these Jews more noble, because they did not hate, when receiving the message.
Acts 17:10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
The Jews of Thessalonica stir up the people of Berea, and we know this is the state of the whole world, most people do not believe, or believe as long as they are not too disturbed, because as Jesus taught us, people prefer the praise of men more then the praise of God..
John 12:42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
Acts 17:13 But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.
So any man or woman can post scripture, it is easier than ;lifting their finger to do any burden ..
Luke 11:46 And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.
A question for everyone who keeps endlessly fighting with each other, and claimng victory as if they correct and the other untrue, when no side ceases the hostilities. Can anyone be more noble then those in Thessalonica ? Grow up to a true man or woman and make peace, that is to know we pass from death to life, debating and talking is death, life is laying your life down and loving in deed which is truth, loving the other, forgiving quarrels, and never causing discord ever again, as hating anyone means you are a murderer instead, so it shows how hard anyone who does not want death, should work on life, before they lose it. Give a try of humbling yourself, instead of wanting the other humbled by you, and yourself exalted, you will find yourself abased one day but it will be the end.
1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
For someone who will continue to mock and be against others, as if they have right to do it.
Knowledge puffs up the person, charity edifies, let the words be seasoned with grace, be graceful, be kindly affectioned, these are all things evil ones cannot be, question yourselves, stop questioning any other...
Romans 12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
2 Timothy 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
If anyone refuses to act better, we have instruction for that too..
Romans 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
19 For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.
1 Corinthians 8:1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
