Holy Spirit leads those who are Believers in Jesus Christ as their personal saviour. I don't depend on Man. Quiznos is way off in saying that . Post Reply
View Profile History	Mark 10:52 Posted : 8 Sep, 2020 10:44 AM There are two passages which show clearly that elders, pastors and overseers (bishops) are three descriptive words for the same person. I Peter 5:1-peter addresses the elders, verse 2 he tells the elders to pastor or shepherd the Flock and to watch over(oversee, manage) them. Acts 20:17 Paul summons the elders from Ephesus. Verse 28 he says the holy Spirit appointed them as overseers for the purpose of pastoring/feeding the assembly of God. Three different words are used to describe the same people. Unfortunately those christians who have a hierarchical clerical mindset have separated these into three different clerical offices. They focus more on the concept of authority and less on the concept of service. I Peter 5:3 says they are not to be dominating God's heritage but they are to be examples for the flock. read Matthew 20:25-28. Christ uses the same word dominating to describe how the rulers of nations control their subjects. "But it will not be so among you." Acts 20:35 Paul tells the elders they are to labor as he did, working with his hands. They are to help and support the weak, because it is more blessed to give than to receive. The emphasis is that elders are to be working, giving to others in physical things. We all have a lot to learn and a lot to answer for. What are the "servants" of Christ doing with God's money? But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave.
