While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message.

All the circumcised believers who came with Peter were amazed , because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentles also.

For they were hearing them speak with tongues and exalting God.

Acts 10: 44-45-46

I don't want to be guilty of eisegesis, of reading

something into a passage that isn't there. I would rather err on the side of caution than to speculate as to what might have been done or what I think should have/could have happened.

Let me tell you the most blatant example of eisegesis I ever heard of.

David and Bathsheba

The preacher said Bathsheba purposefully enticed David. She knew his habits because she could see him from the roof of her house. Knowing his schedule, she engaged in her normal activities on her roof and then she must have exposed herself in some way to tease him. This speaker compared her to the harlot of proverbs.

Nothing is ever said about Bathsheba. In all of scripture, david is the culprit. David, when Nathan told him the parable of the rich man and the lamb, said "that man should die." Nathan told David, you are the man. (2 Samuel 12)

If that preacher wanted to preach about harlotry, he could have used proverbs, or he could have preached about the redemption of Israel who had gone into spiritual harlotry. He was preaching about the evil of Bathsheba who enticed David.

That's an extreme example, of course. Most Christians don't go that far. But it doesn't matter if I put both of my feet 1 inch over the Grand canyon or a whole foot over, either way, i'm dead.

I know you won't let me misunderstand you! What was the point of Peter coming to them and preaching the Lord Jesus Christ to them If They Were Already HOLY and DEVOUT? Wasn't that your point in responding to me,that Cornelius and his house were already believers? Whatever Cornelius and his house believed, it wasn't enough. Peter was there totell them that

"Everyone who believes in Him receives forgivenessof sins through His name."

That's really bad, AboundingGrace. The Bible clearly says that at that time kings were normally away at war. So, there was no reason for Bathsheba to expect to be seen by David.

Thanks, country. I had forgotten that. As I said, it is an extreme example. David got himself in trouble because he wasn't where he should have been.
