What does the Holy Bible say about marrying or dating someone out of your race?
Posted : 10 Jul, 2009 06:27 PM

My ex husband is Caucasian. I'm Puerto Rican. Now, my family insists that I stay within my own race when finding a mate. I told them that I do not care the race of my future mate.

But I wonder...What does the Holy Bible say about marrying or dating someone outside ones race?

Thanks

God didn't seem to have a problem with Moses marrying a Cushite.

God was mainly worried about the childern of Israel getting lead astray by having spouses that were not believers in the Lord.

For our new testiment application, i would say it's marrying someone who has not accepted Christ as their savior as being bad.

(On a side note, those of us who are the product of different races mixing together, would be in a very awkward situation if God made this an issue)

I feel there is no racebarrier when we are all christians. But it does leave a question when u see what happenned with Juda when he married a cannanite jew,and Esau had two Hitite wives and that is whythe switch was made when he was to recieve the blessing.Someone with deep knoweledge on old testament history might be able to explain the issue better. The old testament is important.Jesus said if u believe in me to believe to prophets of old also.

Biblically speaking, marrying or dating someone with a different skin colour from yours (avoiding "race" here) is not evil in and of itself (Romans 14:14). Some Christians may be against marrying or dating someone who has a different skin colour from them, but I am highly supportive of people who date people with different skin colours; in fact, I esteem them, and I see myself in one. :)

Here is some more biblical proof in this area: anyone is at liberty to marry whom they wish, only in the Lord (1 Corinthians 7:39). That person can have a similar or a different skin colour. Likewise, it is lawful (1 Corinthians 6:12), and, "To the pure all things are pure" (Titus 1:15). In short, when it comes to dating or marrying someone who has a different skin colour, the Bible does not condemn it. (See also Numbers 12.)

However, in Deuteronomy 7:1-3, God commanded the Israelites not to make marriages with the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivities and the Jebusites. Why? "For they will turn your sons away from following Me, to serve other gods, so the anger of the LORD will be aroused against you and destroy you suddenly." (Deuteronomy 7:4).

God would not condemn anyone marrying someone with a different skin colour; however, He most certainly will condemn the one who marries someone with different beliefs (religious or otherwise), whether the person has the same or different skin colour from you. Another passage to consider is 2 Corinthians 6:14-16. We are not to be unequally yoked with the unbelieving. It does not matter what skin colour they have.

But altogether, whether your partner is black, white, Asian, brown, or a mixture of any of the two, as long as he/she is a strong Christian, you can date him/her if you wish, for it is not evil in and of itself. :)

I hope this helps.

Blessings,

Declan.
