I do recall Y'shua saying to render to Caesar the things things that are Caesars and pay your taxes but I don't recall him giving Caesar authority over marriages.

Marriage Without Pastor and Without State License
Posted on May 12, 2007 |
Many pastors claim that it is their duty to authorize marriages suggesting that without them you cannot be married. But what does the Holy Bible say on the issue?
The first man was married without a pastor.
Genesis 2:21-25
And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman,
because she was taken out of Man.
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave
unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
And they were both naked, the
man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
Question: Was Adam married? Did Adam need a state license? Did Adam need the authorization of some man?
Genesis 11:29
And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai;
and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of
Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
Was Abraham married or not? Did Abraham need a pastor to authorize his marriage?
Genesis 24:67
And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and took Rebekah, and she
became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother’s
death.
Was Isaac married? Did Isaac need a pastor to authorize his marriage?
Genesis 25:1
Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah.
It is plain to see that God recognizes a couple as married when they “cleave unto” each other.
Genesis 2:23-24
And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she
shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother,
and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Matthew 19:3-9
The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it
lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and
mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What
therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?
He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away
your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.
And
I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication,
and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.
Additionally there is no scripture saying that marriage is only marriage when authorized by some pastor. Marriage licenses submits your marriage to the jurisdiction of the state, albeit unconstitutionally.
*AMEN** cupcakeme, as long as they are both born from Above Christians and do not make any **VOWS** or **OATHS** which are **CONDEMNED** in the NT Covenant!!
Remember, O LORD, on David's behalf, All his affliction; How he swore to the LORD And vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob, "Surely I will not enter my house, Nor lie on my bed;
Leviticus 19:12
'You shall not swear falsely by My name, so as to profane the name of your God; I am the LORD.
Deuteronomy 23:21
"When you make a vow to the LORD your God, you shall not delay to pay it, for it would be sin in you, and the LORD your God will surely require it of you.
Deuteronomy 23:23
"You shall be careful to perform what goes out from your lips, just as you have voluntarily vowed to the LORD your God, what you have promised.
Exodus 20:7
"You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.
Psalm 76:11 Make vows to the LORD your God and fulfill them; Let all who are around Him bring gifts to Him who is to be feared
Mt 5:33 NIV
33 “Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ 34 But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. 36 And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. 37 All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.
The point is not so much that oaths are evil as that the motivation for engaging in them is; one should simply tell the truth (Mt 5:37).
What is the OT command concerning *VOWS* and *OATHS*?? Numbers 30:2: Moses said, "This is what the Lord commands: When a man makes a *VOW* to the Lord or takes an *OATH* to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said!"
KJVonly quotes other Old Testament verses that say that it is good to make **VOWS** and **OATHS**
However Paul quotes over 10 Scriptures that state we are **NO LONGER UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF OLD TESTAMENT LAWS** like Galatians 3:25
Galatians 2:16: We know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but **BY FAITH** in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our **FAITH** in Christ Jesus that we may be **JUSTIFIED BY FAITH** in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law **NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED**!!
Galatians 3:23-26: Before the coming of this **FAITH**, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the **FAITH** that was to come would be revealed. So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be **JUSTIFIED BY FAITH**. Now that this **FAITH** has come we are **NO LONGER UNDER THE SUPERVION OF THE LAW**. So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God **THROUGH FAITH**!!
What are the NT commands concerning making *VOWS* and **OATHS*??
James 5:12: "ABOVE ALL, my brothers, do not swear--not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your "Yes" be yes, and your "No," no, or you will be condemned.!!"
Matthew 5:33-37: Jesus says, "You have heard that it was said to your people long ago {Like Numbers 30:2 above}, 'Do not break your oath, but keep the oaths you have made to the Lord.' BUT I tell you, Do not swear at all....Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No, 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one!!"
So any **OATH** or **VOW** including **MARRIAGE VOWS** comes from the Evil One and will be **CONDEMNED**in the New Testament Covenant!!
2 Peter 3:15,16: Bear in mind that our Lord's patience means salvation, just as our **DEAR BROTHER PAUL ALSO WROTE WITH THE WISDOM THAT GOD GAVE HIM**! He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand {For the Lost}. which IGNORANT AND UNSTABLE PEOPLE DISTORT, {Like KJVonly} as they do other Scriptures to **THEIR OWN DESTRUCTION**!{Which would be eternal torment in hell}
Matthew 28:18-20: Jesus says, "**ALL AUTHORITY** in heaven and on earth has been given to **ME**! Therefore go and make disciples of all nations.. . Teaching them to **OBEY EVERYTHING I HAVE COMMANDED** (Including Matthew 5:33-37} And surely I am with you always. to the very end of the age!"
John 12:48: Jesus says, "There is a Judge for the one {Like KJVonly} who does not accept My words {Like Matthew 5:33-37} , the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the Last Day!"
