What is the singular light in Genesis before the sun and moon were made?
The Word of God brings light. Spiritual illumination. God spoke and there was light which he divided from the darkness before the sun and moon were made. God's Word is a light to our dark minds which points to Jesus Christ.
God being invisible made all things manifest and visible through his Word...likewise, when we have faith in the invisible we look beyond the visible and what our natural eyes show us. A reversal .

There is no literal temple building in the New Jerusalem. God and the Lamb are the city's temple, since they are worshiped everywhere. Well you did not state which literial creation day is singular in light to be exact because you also mentioned plural lights - sun and moon were made? Only Gen 1:14-16 states of plural lights. Is Gen 1:3-5 singular of light made?

So my thinking is yes He is "Spiritual illumination" and that would be in a spirtual sense and He is also a literial light! But the context of the Genesis Creation account is literial and what you seem to imply is that he created himself on day 1, then again Created a light (sun) on day 4??? Why would he need two lights then on two different Creation days? Makes no sense to me!
Remember only His WORD existed in the Creation account, not "J_sus Christ" in the flesh.

Only His set apart Holy Spirit is invisible. Remember Moses seeing His "back side" on Mt. Sinai, reestablishing His Torah Law to his people. The "visible" part of "his Word" is when we read it or He speaks (voice) something into existance like the Creation account we are studying.

No it has nothing to do with the Sabbath on day 1, your confusing day 1 with day 7. Right? So its not a "spiritual illumination" in the sense of a literial event on day 1 then. Right?
