Ecc 3:15?

"That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past."

This verse has always stumped me - I just don't get it. I've read many different commentaries, but once I think I have my mind wrapped around it, I don't get it again.

Can anyone explain? (Use small words and type sloooooow...)

Praise the LORD JESUS CHRIST. It could be that the WORD actually gives the answer to the first part of the verse in another verse in the same book, "That which hath been is named already (here it comes) and it is known that it is "man" (there it is). Ecc 6:10

The answer: "man" Man has been, man is, and man will always be. That's the design of our CREATOR.

For the latter part of the verse, if we are continuing to reconize the emphasis is on "that" and the answer is "man" then I would conclude that GOD requires man whom HE (GOD) made, to continue to be. GOD Requires that (man) which is past.

However, if the "that" in the latter part of the verse is looked at as being separate from the 'thats' in the first part of the verse, then I would say that it is speaking of what the last verses in the same book says..."Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear GOD, and keep HIS commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For GOD shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil." Ecc 12:13-14 Which can also be stated as "GOD requires that which is past." We shall all give an account of the deeds done in our bodies. Praise the LORD!
