You asked: "My question is, was her it her own humble persistence and faith that allowed Jesus to heal this woman's daughter or was grace given first to allow this woman to know who Jesus really was that she may ask this blessing from him?"
Please ignore the other member who spoke in error and said:"It is Faith Then Grace, that is how the kingdom of God operates on the earth."
Grace precedes faith -- this is the order.
(2Tim 1:9 [KJB:PCE])
Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.
When was grace given to the Elect? Before the world began. Why did he give grace to his Elect? For his own purpose. This happens in eternity before time.
(Rom 10:17 [KJB:PCE])
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
When does faith come to the Elect? When they hear (understand) the Word of God. This happens in time (history)
(Rom 5:2 [KJB:PCE])
By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Read it -- We (the elect) have access into this grace (the grace given to us in eternity) by faith (which is the appointed means in time)
(Eph 2:8 [KJB:PCE])
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Read it -- We (the elect) are saved by grace (the grace given to us in eternity as a gift from God) through faith (which is the appointed means in time)
So, yet again you two have erred all over this thread. Due to her own lack of understanding, Teach even cursed me to receive plagues (though I did not even quote from Revelation--- still another error Teach) Neither of you have any idea what you are talking about.... as I have now shown for the umpteenth time.
One Sojourner is patiently awaiting a response to what the OP had partially attempted to answer concerning a question from a post 5 days ago which the Op here chose to resurrect and answer in this new post... I gave my thoughts concerning this...
How was grace given in the verses that you quoted? Doesn't it say "in Christ"? And who receives Christ?
John 1:12
King James Version (KJV)
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name
Christ was slain from the foundation of the world, but only those that receive and believe on Him are saved by that grace.
Romans 5:1-2
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
How do we obtain access into grace?? By FAITH. So what comes first? FAITH or GRACE?
The very first step on salvation's path is extremely simple. Just recognize that we're sinners in need of salvation, have faith that Jesus is that savior, and the grace is yours. :yay:
"Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name
Ah.. but look at the next verse ---"13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God"
Grace precedes faith. Grace is not sitting there "waiting for a human to claim it". Grace is applied by God to those whom he has chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world.
[3] Jesus answered him, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.[
[4] Nicodemus said to him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born? [
5] Jesus answered, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. [6] That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
[7] Do not marvel that I said to you, You must be born again. [8] The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.
[9] Nicodemus said to him, How can these things be? [10] Jesus answered him, Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things?
[11] Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony.
[12] If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
[13] No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.
[14] And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
[15] that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
IWA wrote: "Ah.. but look at the next verse ---"13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God""
My response:
John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
*** Receive means to take, accept, experience, welcome
*** Believe means to have confidence in the truth of something
Since John 1:13 is a continuance of verse 12 as evident by the ':' the verses must be examined together.
Verse 12 shows I must receive (take, accept, experience, or welcome) Christ to become a child of God...and to receive that adoption (Romans 8:15-17) by God we must Believe on His name
Verse 13 further clarifies how Christ is received (accepted, taken, experienced, welcomed) when born of the Spirit (John 3)
 -- NOT because of physical birth (blood) (not because I was Jewish or my parents were Christians);
-- NOT because I just decide I want to be a Christian - I can choose to be a Baptist, a Catholic, a Calvinist, an atheist, etc - that doesn't make me a child of God
-- NOT because someone deems me to be a Christian (I.e. being adopted into a Christian family or declares I am a Christian because of the works I do or Because I joined a church, etc)
To become a Christian, a child of God, is through the second birth, the understanding and belief that I am a sinner, my punishment is Hell, Christ paid my death penalty when He died on the cross, and I accept His sacrifice because I can never be good enough on my own.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint- heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
