Do you believe in the ten percent tithe? Do you tithe at all? Why or Why not? Blessings, Lydia

I do believe that tithing is a Godly principle to live by...I also disagree with the prosperity frame of mind. I don't feel there is anything Biblical about that where money is concerned. The Bible states that God's ways are not our ways...I feel the return on the tithe can come in different forms...ie..true happiness, needs being met, opportunities, Godly gifts of the spirt, etc...in other words, the return most often isn't monetary but spiritual. I have seen God supply a need at the midnight hour both finacially and spirtually to "prove" Himself...He is God and that's non-negotiable. Someone once said to me...Imagine two chairs...God sitting in the the first chair and you at His feet..Now imagine you sitting in a chair and God at your feet.. Now tell me "Are you serving God's purposes or is God serving yours? Serving God is not a business, it is a privledge. If I need a monetary return on my investment then it's best to go to the bank...If I remember right, Jesus was a little bit "unhappy" with the moneychangers in the temple but praised the widow and her last mite. Mmmm...food for thought. Take care.

Good morning ET,

I actually do have a ministry, I am an Evangelist. I'll bet that's the first time you've heard an Evangelist talk against making offerings for the wrong reason. LOL.

This time of year is slow for me, so this place is a blessing. The name of the ministry is Last Hope Crusades. I do old fashioned open air Revivals, and I love it. I am not much of a showman like some of those guys, but people don't seem to mind, they just like to be able to feel the love, and the passion. Of course, having a good Praise and Worship team helps. LOL. Everyone that is involved is there as a volunteer, because they love the Lord, and it shows.

Love and faith,

Leon

So, Sister Robin and Brother Leon have presented examples of the best offerings we can give to God....our efforts and our time. Volunteering so God's words can be kept alive. Give food to the food pantries in our cities, so those without can have something to eat. Donate to ministries that look to provide shelter for the homeless. Start emptying out your closets and letting something old to you be something new for someone else.

Yes our offerings don't have to have a dollar sign in front of it, but if that is what you have to give, quit robbing God and give it.

Hello,

At the first church that I attended, when someone would tell the former pastor of a problem that they were having, he would ask them if they had been tithing. He did that with many of us and we kinda thought he was joking, but kinda not too. Any comments?

Also this same pastor knew who tithed and how much. Should a pastor have this knowledge?

Blessings, Lydia

The Bible says that it rains on the just and the unjust. I don't feel that tithing will prevent you from having problems in your life. I do feel when you put God first, you will have his favor and He will help you through those times but that doesn't mean you'll be problem free. With that being said, I will say no more. Even David had the insight to let God deal with Saul on His own terms. God Bless.

Hi Everyone,

Great responses and I agree. We are not required to tithe but God does love a cheerful giver. It is from the heart that counts. I believe if someone is giving because they think they are required to then I do not believe that God will necessarily bless that like He would when someone gives from the Heart.

2Cor 9:6 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. NKJV

But we also need to consider another form of tithing or giving and that is giving of our time and talents to our local Church for the building up of the Saints.

Blessings!

Walter

There is an interesting focus in the book of NUMBERS on the offerings God asked the people to make.(Numbers 15:1-16)

He stated that whatever was sacrificed had to be done in a precise manner.

For example if you offered a bull and could afford it you had to offer it with a certain amount of oil, grain and wine.

And God wanted the best bull, the best lamb, the best grain.

Not the bull who was wobbly and weak or the lamb who was lame.

The reason for this all was that God was ordaining these sacrifices with precise amounts because this sacrifice was about obeying God.

Remember Aaron's sons when they used creative license with the "special offering"?

What happened to them?

God wants our offering to be pure, from a good heart and obedience.

And as for the offerings themselves,

he said if you offer a bull

if you offer a lamb

if you offer grain

He knows how little or how much we have

and what we can afford and cannot

God looks at our hearts and motives

all these will be "sweet smelling aromas" to God

Yes i do believe in the ten percent tithe to my church

and I know that we have to offer up other things sacrificially

but THIS IS ALL A FORM OF WORSHIP

HOW WE SHOULD LOVE TO GIVE THIS TO OUR GOD

WHO GAVE SO MUCH FOR US

This is what I am learnng

The Holy Spirit is a very good teacher

and i thirst and yearn for His words and counsel daily

God bless all of you

Hi Barbara,

I am of the opinion that the reason the sacrifice had to be "without blemish" is that it was an indication of what was to come, the lamb of God in whom there is no blemish, Jesus. All the sacrificial system was a prophesy about the coming of Jesus, just as the design of the tabernacle was an indication of heaven. Only a perfect sacrifice would work for the forgiveness of sin. As the animal was laid out for sacrifice, the owner touched it's head, transferring his sin to the animal. When the animal was then killed, the price of his sin had been paid....death. It is such a beautiful picture of what Jesus did for us.

Love and grace,

Leon

I've been trying to play catch-up on my posting LOL... but I think I wlll take a break and come back to finishing up later, I'm getting sleepy LOL...

I will say that if we tithed as the Jews in the OT, as related to what Leon says, we would be paying out more than 10% of our first fruits. The Jews tithed 10% of everything they owned, to help feed the poor and care for the priest in the Cities of Refuges.
