Question: "What is the sinner's prayer?" from gotquestions.com
Answer: The sinner's prayer is a prayer a person prays to God when they understand that they are a sinner and in need of a Savior. Saying a sinner's prayer will not accomplish anything on its own. A true sinner's prayer only represents what a person knows, understands, and believes about their sinfulness and need for salvation.
The first aspect of a sinner's prayer is understanding that we are all sinners. Romans 3:10 proclaims, "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one." The Bible makes it clear that we have all sinned. We are all sinners in need of mercy and forgiveness from God (Titus 3:5-7). Because of our sin, we deserve eternal punishment (Matthew 25:46). The sinner's prayer is a plea for grace instead of judgment. It is a request for mercy instead of wrath.
The second aspect of a sinner's prayer is knowing what God has done to remedy our lost and sinful condition. God took on flesh and became a human being in the Person of Jesus Christ (John 1:1,14). Jesus taught us the truth about God and lived a perfectly righteous and sinless life (John 8:46; 2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus then died on the cross in our place, taking the punishment that we deserve (Romans 5:8). Jesus rose from the dead to prove His victory over sin, death, and hell (Colossians 2:15; 1 Corinthians chapter 15). Because of all of this, we can have our sins forgiven and be promised an eternal home in Heaven - if we will just place our faith in Jesus Christ. All we have to do is believe that He died in our place and rose from the dead (Romans 10:9-10). We can be saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone. Ephesians 2:8 declares, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God."
Saying the sinner's prayer is simply a way of declaring to God that you are relying on Jesus Christ as your Savior. There are no "magical" words that result in salvation. It is only faith in Jesus' death and resurrection that can save us. If you understand that you are a sinner and in need of salvation through Jesus Christ, here is a sinner's prayer you can pray to God: "God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen!"
The sinners prayer is a way for Confessing your faith to believe in the Lord Jesus Chirst with your mouth." For if you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus Christ, and will believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved. Romans chapter 10.
*** Yes they did and thats the first Message Jesus Preached ~
Mat 3:2 ~ " And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
Mat 4:17~ " From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
Mark 1:15 ~ "And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel."
*** Jesus was Fiiled with the Holy Spirit when John Baptised Him in the River Jordan...this is why some people believe a person recieves the Holy Spirit 1st and then becomes Saved by Grace...
Mark 6:12 ~ "And they went out, and preached that men should repent."
*** I could be wrong here...:dunce:...The Apostles Had Not recieved the Holy Spirit yet...and they went out and Preached Repentance because Jesus commanded this of them...xo
Yep, you are correct Jude, the Apostle had not be filled with the Holy Spirit unto the Day of Pentecost.
When Jesus first sent them out the Bible tells us that each time Jesus sent them out, He laid hands on them and empowered them with the Holy Spirit to do the works of the ministry.
John 1:12,13: "To all who received Him, {Jesus}to those who believed in His Name, he gave the right to become children of God--children born not of human descent,**NOR OF HUMAN DECISION** or a husband's will , but **BORN OF GOD**."
Ephesians 2:8,9: For it is by grace you:rolleyes::applause::angel::peace: have been saved, through faith--and this **NOT FROM YOURSELVES**, it is the {100%} GIFT OF GOD--not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are GOD'S WORKMANSHIP, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
John 6:44: Jesus says, No one can come to Me **UNLESS** the Father who sent Me draws him, and I will raise him up at the *Last Day*!!"
There will be 2 comings of Jesus on the *Last Day* of the Great Tribulation. The first will be *FOR* His saints and the second will be **WITH** His saints right after the marriage Feast of the Lamb {See Rev 19:8-20}
Revelation 17:14: They will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will overcome them because He is Lord of lords and King of kings--and with Him will be His **CALLED**, **CHOSEN** and faithful followers!!"
Richard, so would you explain what this passage means that you have posted? What is Jesus speaking about here, and how is a person drawn to Him or God? Thanks...
John 6:44: Jesus says, No one can come to Me **UNLESS** the Father who sent Me draws him, and I will raise him up at the *Last Day*!!"
Once you "CHOSEN" by the Father you:rolleyes: are "BORN OF GOD" and the Father "DRAWS" you to Jesus and gives you the Free Gift of Faith which is "NOT OF YOURSELVES" "NOR OF HUMAN DECISION"; and the free gift of His Spirit which enables you to understand the Word of God.
I Peter 1:23,24: "For you:rolleyes: have been Born Again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the Living and Enduring Word of God. For all men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of the Lord stands forever. And this is the Word that was preached to you!!":applause::angel::peace:
Prophet that is not what the bible teaches at all.
1 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.
16 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
17 For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.
18 Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.
There is the faith process and it is far from what you keep saying.
Richard said: Once you "CHOSEN" by the Father you are "BORN OF GOD" and the Father "DRAWS" you to Jesus and gives you the Free Gift of Faith which is "NOT OF YOURSELVES" "NOR OF HUMAN DECISION"; and the free gift of His Spirit which enables you to understand the Word of God.
Ella say: So Richard, how does a person know when or that he/she has been CHOSEN by the Father?
And how/when does a perosn become BORN OF GOD?
And when/how does the Father draws the person to Jesus?
And when/how does the person receive the free gift of faith and of His Spirit?
I suppose what I'm saying is that you still have not explained how the Father DRAWS a person to Jesus. Maybe after you have answered and explained the above questions there will be clarity in knowing your interpretaion of the process unto salvation.
1. Again, when does a person know he/she has been chosen by the Father?
2. When does a person become born again, is this before the person believes in the gospel of Jesus Christ that the person becomes born again?
3. When does the person receives the free gift of faith and the Holy Spirit is this after they have become born again or before they become born again and receive the free gift of faith?
So, Is repentance of sins a part of any of this process?... or is repentance automatically given after the Father has drawn the person to Jesus? Or is repentance of sins even necessary after the Father has drawn a person to Jesus?
to feel sorry, self-reproachful, or contrite for past conduct; regret or be conscience-stricken about a past action, attitude, etc. (often followed by of ): He repented after his thoughtless act.
to feel such sorrow for sin or fault as to be disposed to change one's life for the better; be penitent.
When a person is truly born of God he will steadily turn away from his past life of sin. This of course doesn't completely happen overnight especially for the babe in Christ and continues till we get to heaven. Jesus commands us to continually pray to the Father to forgive us our sins in Luke 11:2-4.
I John 1:8-10: "If we claim to be without sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar and His Word has no place in our lives!"
Jesus told his saints in the 7 churches to repent 7 times In Revelation 2:5{2X}; 2:16,21,22; 3:3,19.
2 Peter 1:5-10: Make every effort to add to your faith {A Free Gift from God} goodness, and to goodness, knowledge, and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, and to perseverance, godliness, and to godliness, brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness, LOVE. For if you possess these qualities in INCREASING MEASURE, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind and has forgotten that he has been cleansed of his past sins. Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your CALLING and ELECTION sure, For if you do these things you will never fail, and you will receive a *RICH WELCOME* into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
