JESUS COMMANDS US TO "SELL OUR POSSESSIONS GIVE TO THE POOR AND YOU WILL HAVE TREASURES IN HEAVEN AND **THEN** COME FOLLOW ME!!"

In the old covenant God's commandments were only preached to Jews but in the New Covenant Jesus commands us to preach to every nation in the world teaching them to obey *EVERYTHING* He commanded and everything would also include all of the approximately 400 NT commandments also taught in Acts to Revelation {See 2 Timothy 3-16 to 4:2.}

There were 613 OT commandments and Jesus changed many of them including all of the strict Sabbath commands and all of the commands to stone someone for sinning {Jesus says that he who is without sin should cast the first stone} Jesus also eliminated all the strict Levitical dietary laws declaring that all foods are now clean. And Jesus also commanded us not to make any vows or oaths {Matt 5:33-37}on anything Just let your Yes be yes and your no, no.

Jesus also eliminated the eye for an eye laws and commanded us to always offer up the other cheek and to love {See Matt 5:38-48} our enemies. And of course Jesus eliminated all sacrifices and offerings for sin by the sacrifice of Himself. Jesus also eliminated the earthly rewards for faithful service and commanded us to sell our possessions and give to the poor and get *TREASURES IN HEAVEN* and **THEN** come follow Him.

Luke 12:33,34: Jesus says, Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted....For where your treasure is there your heart:rolleyes: will be also.

Matthew 20:20-24: All these {Commandments} I have kept, the young man said. What do I still lack? Jesus answered, If you want to be perfect, go, sell tour possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. **THEN** come, follow Me. When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Then Jesus says, It is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.

Luke 6:20: Jesus says Blessed are you who are poor:rolleyes:, for yours is the kingdom of God.

2 Corinthians 6:4-10: As servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance, in troubles, hardships and distresses, in beatings, imprisonments; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love, in truthful speech and in the power of God; genuine, yet regarded as impostors; dying, and yet we live on; beaten and yet not killed; *POOR*, yet making many rich; *HAVING NOTHING*; and yet possessing everything.

I Timothy 6:5-10: There are men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain. But godliness with contentment is great gain....If we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

I Timothy 2:9,10: I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.

The early saints followed these commands of Jesus and the NT Covenant:

Acts 2:44,45: "*ALL* the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need." Acts 4:32: "*ALL* the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had."

Revelation 22:12: Jesus says, "Behold, I am coming soon! My *REWARD* is *WITH ME*, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done!" {When He comes, not now}

2 Corinthians 5:9,10: "So we make it our goal to please Him..For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him {Not NOW} for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad!"

Matthew 16:27: Jesus says, For the Son of Man is going to come in His **FATHER'S GLORY WITH HIS ANGELS**{See Matt 24:30-31;25:31-40}, and **THEN** {Not with earthly rewards now} He will *REWARD* each person according to what he has done."

I Peter 1:13: Therefore, prepare your minds for *ACTION*, and set your hope *FULLY* on the grace to be given *YOU* when Jesus Christ is *REVEALED*.:applause::angel:

2 Timothy 4:7,8: Paul said, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me *ON THAT DAY* {Not NOW}--and not only to me, but to all who have longed for His *APPEARING*.:applause::peace:

As to your claim that Jesus abolished Old Testament law, I think you need to read what Jesus himself said about it:

Matthew 5:17-19 (NASB)

17 "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.

18 "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

19 "Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Cobbler states:

Prophetic, there is a big difference between selling half of your possessions and all of your possessions. Also, why did Zacchaeus sell half of his possessions and sell them to the poor? Because he got them through illegal means. He didnt do it out of the generosity of his heart, but because he owed people for defrauding them.{??????}

Zacchaeus was a tax collector, and nowhere does God's Word say that he got his money illegally. If he was a crook and got his money illegally why did Jesus say "This day salvation has come to this house" after his statement.{See Luke 19:8,9}

The command of Jesus in Luke 12:33 does not command us to sell *ALL* our possessions as you wrongly claim:

Luke 12:33: Jesus commands, "Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a TREASURE IN HEAVEN that will not be exhausted.... For where your *TREASURE IS*, there your heart will be also."

Cobbler also stated:

"Jesus commanded his disciples to take nothing but their robs and staffs and go around to Israel and preach the coming of his kingdom, have you done that? There are certain commands that were specific to individuals, and then there are certain commands that are general to everyone."

I do agree that this command of Jesus was obviously just to his 12 apostles in Matthew 10 for a short period of time.

Actually Jesus later commanded his disciples to preach to the Jew first and then to all nations and in Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus commanded everyone "To teach them to obey *EVERYTHING* I have commanded." {See John 14:23,24 & I John 2:3-5} Which of course would include His command in Luke 12:33 above. I have obeyed this command since I was a missionary to Jews in Israel and am now a missionary in Florida.

The early church saints apparently were obeying the command of Jesus in Luke 12:33 to sell their possessions and to share them with their less fortunate brothers:

Acts 2:44,45: *ALL** the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to everyone as he had need!!" Acts 4:32: "*ALL* the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had!!":applause::peace::angel:

Cobbler has stated:

As to your claim that Jesus abolished Old Testament law, I think you need to read what Jesus himself said about it:

Matthew 5:17-19:

17 "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.

18 "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

19 "Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

Actually Jesus did completely *FULFILL* the law and then put an and to all Old Testament sacrifices for sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

Immediately after the above statement of Jesus in Matthew 5:17-19 Jesus proceeded to change SEVEN Old Testament laws in Matthew 5:20-48.

In Mark 7:18,19: "Are you so dull," Jesus asked, "Don't you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him unclean? For it doesn't go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body.!" In saying this, Jesus declared all foods "CLEAN"! Thus doing away with all the Levitical dietary laws. Jesus also eliminated Old Testament stoning laws when He said he who has not sinned should cast the first stone!

Jesus also fulfilled this prophecy in Deuteronomy 18:17-19: The Lord said to Moses, "I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among your brothers; I will put My words in His mouth, and He will tell them everything I command Him. If anyone does not listen to My words {See John 14:24,31} that the Prophet speaks in My Name, I Myself will call him to account." :applause::peace::angel:

Galatians 3:23-25: " Before faith came, we were held prisoners by the{OT} Law, locked up until faith should be revealed. So the{OT} Law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the {OT}Law!"

In the old covenant God's commandments were only preached to Jews but in the New Covenant Jesus commands us to preach to every nation in the world teaching them to obey *EVERYTHING* He commanded and everything would also include all of the approximately 400 NT commandments also taught in Acts to Revelation {See 2 Timothy 3-16 to 4:2.}

But one of the biggest changes was an addition to the OT Law love your neighbor as you love yourself which was replaced by

John 15:9-14:

Jesus says, "As the Father has loved Me , so I have loved you. Now remain in MY LOVE. **IF** you:rolleyes: obey My commands, you will remain in MY LOVE...My command is this: **LOVE** each other AS I HAVE LOVED YOU!!! Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his live for his friends.":angel:

All of the approximately 400 NT commands differ from the OT Covenant in that they must all be kept *IN LOVE* just as Jesus loved us!!

John 14:23,24: Jesus says, "If anyone:rolleyes: loves Me, He will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with Him. He who does not love Me will not obey My teaching." {See I John 2:3-5}:applause::peace::angel:

Hebrews 9:15,26b-28: Christ is the mediator of a **NEW COVENANT** so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance--now that He has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant...But now He has APPEARED once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the SACRIFICE of Himself... so Christ was SACRIFICED ONCE to take away the sins of many people, and He will *APPEAR* a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him.

Hebrews 8:8,9,13: God found fault with the people and said: The time is coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a **NEW COVENANT** with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. It will **NOT** be like the covenant I made with their forefathers.....By calling this covenant **NEW**, He made the first one **OBSOLETE**; and what is **OBSOLETE** and aging will soon disappear. When all the words of the New Covenant were completed by the Book of Revelation in AD 96.

Hebrew 10:8-10: Jesus said, "Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them. Although the law required them to be made. The He {Jesus} said. "Here I am, I have come to do your will." He {Jesus} set aside the first {Covenant} to establish the second. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus ONCE FOR ALL!!:applause::peace::angel:
