A Foolish Husband and the Wise Wife...

The Bible tells us this that Nabal was as the meaning of his name a foolish man. He was churish and evil in his doings, devoid of spiritual understanding, insensitive to the things of God and ethical standards.

The BIble tells us that his wife Abigail was a wise woman with understanding, dignity, and integrity sensitive to the things of the Lord, and had good intension, a godly and wise woman.

When you read this storyr in I Samuel chapter 25, about this foolish man Nabal and his wise godly wife Abigail, what spiritual lessons do you gather from it?

The spiritual lessons that we gather from the story of Nabal and Agigali are the following: Nabal was a fooilsh and evil man married to a wise and godly woman.

SPIRITUAL POINT: We must always stay sensitive and true to the things of the Lord, no matter the circumstance or situations. Nabal as the Bible tells us was a drunkard and a fool, as is the meaning of his name. He refused to acknowledge David's request to provide food and water for his men who came to Nabal seeking help, after all David's soldiers were the ones protecting Nabal's flock and his men in the wilderness. Nabal rejected David's request and was insensitive and selfish void of moral standards and understanding and disrespectful to God, David and his wife.

SPIRITUAL POINT:. We are to always obey God, and God's faithful servants when it comes to the things of God. Abigail was a wise and godly woman who was sensitive to God. It was not her place as Nabal's wife to fufill David's request. But her husband was wicked and she submitted herself not to her husband's foolish actions, but to honor God and had good intentions toward God's servant, becasue she knew her husband was wrong. If a wife is married to a foolsih man who disrespects the things of God, a wife is not obilgated to follow his request when they are contrary to what God has spoken. This is made very clear in this story.

SPIRITUAL POINT: When we know to do right, we must always do the right things pleasing to God no matter what the consequences. As we are taught in God's Word , we should rather obey God than man. When Abigail was told that her husband had rejected to feed David's men, and that David and his men were coming to kill her husband for rejecting his request to give his men food and water. As a wise woman who loved her husband, she gather up everything she could and went on behalf of her husband to beg David to spare his life. She never told or asked or said one word to her husband one word. She went out to the wilderness with the supplies, on he own, and the Bible says she when she saw David, fell at his feet and begged of him and repented to David for herself and on behalf of her husband. A this stopped David from killing Nabal. She made amends for her husband.

SPIRITUAL POINT:. A great point here, we should never try to reason with a husband or wife or anyone for that matter in a heated arguement to show them the right or wrng of their evil way, or if the person is not sober and is drunk, or is angry, or refuses to listen. The Bible tells us when Abigail returned home from the wilderness and her husband Nabal was having a big party fit for a king and was very drunk, and thought nothing about rejecting, nor did he know what she had done. Out of respect for her husband, and to keep peace, Abigal knew Nabal would not hear or listen to her during his drunkardness, she waited until morning to tell him what had happened.

SPIRITUAL POINT: There is honor and blessings when there is obedience in the things of God. David listen to her plea and turned back from killing her husband, and honored her request. And God honored and blessed her repentance on behalf of her evil husband, and for taking matters into her own hands and by doing the right thing toward God's servant..We are told that the next morning when Nabal was sober, she told him what had happend, that David had set out to kill him, it was socking to Nabal to think that his life was in danger, and that he was about to be killed by the hands of David. Nabak refused to respect David's request, and disresepcted his wife, and the things of God, and God vindicated by killing Nabal.

We are to obey the things of God at all cost even in marriage, and trust and depend upon God Himself to vindicate us no matter what may happen or how God may choose to vindicate us. Be still and know that He is God...But honor and blessings and vindicateion only comes when we are wise and godly men and women of God, and sensitive to obeying His holy word.
