Monergism, Synergism and James.

James Posted:

Monergism means God alone saves. Synergism means God and The man work together and the man is partially responsible for saving Himself.

----------------

Yes God alone saves, no one disputes that except the fantasy people you create.

Synergism: the working together of two things to produce a sum greater than the total of their individual effects.

This is what the Gospel IS! ...About God and man, if it was only about God we wouldn't exist to be having this conversation.

The question would be : If it is Monergism then God could snap His fingers and save the elect? And if it is Synergism would it be more of a process ?

Look around, which is reality?

Which begs the bigger question:

If God has free will, are we created in His image?

I think the Arminian Christian shows his inconsistency when he or she prays for loved ones that are lost..........

They don't pray:

"Lord, don't mess with their free will or anything, but maybe you could nudge them a bit...?"

INSTEAD, They pray LIKE A CALVINIST:

"Lord Please SAVE THEM!!"

What Does Monergism Mean?

Monergism: In regeneration, the Holy Spirit unites us to Christ independent of any cooperation from our unregenerated human nature. He quickens us through the outward call cast forth by the preaching of His Word, disarms our innate hostility, removes our blindness, illumines our mind, creates understanding, turns our heart of stone to a heart of flesh -- giving rise to a delight in His Word -- all that we might, with our renewed affections, willingly & gladly embrace Christ. The Prophet Ezekiel inspired by the Holy Spirit asserted "I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God." (Eze 11:19, also 36:26) The Apostle Paul said, "For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction." (1 Thess 1, 4, 5). I.e. In regeneration the word does not work alone but must be accompanied by the "germination" of the Holy Spirit. And again "...you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God." (1 Pet 1:23)

The Century Dictionary defines it as follows:

"In theology, the doctrine that the Holy Spirit is the only efficient agent in regeneration - that the human will possesses no inclination to holiness until regenerated, and therefore cannot cooperate in regeneration."

It means that the very desire for faith, by which we believe in Him who justifies the ungodly comes to us through regeneration -- and if anyone says that this belongs to us by nature and not by a gift of grace, that is, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit amending our will and turning it from unbelief to faith and from godlessness to godliness, he/she ignores the teaching of the Apostles, for Paul says, "...Even when we were dead in sins, [God] hath quickened us together with Christ, by grace ye are saved." and "...he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit." (Titus 3:5) And again, "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God" (Eph. 2:8). or if anyone makes the assistance of grace depend on the humility or obedience of man and does not agree that it is a gift of grace itself that we are obedient and humble, he contradicts the Apostle who says, "What have you that you did not receive?" (1 Cor. 4:7), and, "But by the grace of God I am what I am" (1 Cor. 15:10).

It is in contrast to synergism which the Century Dictionary defines as

"...the doctrine that there are two efficient agents in regeneration, namely the human will and the divine Spirit, which, in the strict sense of the term, cooperate. This theory accordingly holds that the soul has not lost in the fall all inclination toward holiness, nor all power to seek for it under the influence of ordinary motives."

Well James if you prayed as you said the lord can not answer your prayer according to your theology, then again he can not answer what he has already done, you know save everyone, it is just a matter of he, she accepting their salvation

Well you could pray as the bible instruct us to do, for the lord to thrust laborers into the harvest field, so that by the preaching of the word man can thus hear the word of God and believe or reject the gift of salvation. the lord is so Good in that he has made it so simple, so easy to be a part of his family.

Only Believe!!!!!

James gets 2 points for:

"I think the Arminian Christian shows his inconsistency when he or she prays for loved ones that are lost..........

They don't pray:

"Lord, don't mess with their free will or anything, but maybe you could nudge them a bit...?"

INSTEAD, They pray LIKE A CALVINIST: "Lord Please SAVE THEM!!"

I have to admit, that's a good one. Haha! :prayingf:

But then he gets a point deducted for following up with an article. -1 point

Saved gets 5 points for talking medical jargon with me!! Haha!

Two = 3 points ------- James = 1 point -------- Saved = 5 points

Christians who deny that Salvation is completely of God, will show verses where the Holy Spirit did something in the life of a Christian AFTER they accepted Christ.

They will do this and say, "see, the Holy Spirit came AFTER they decided to choose Jesus....."

No one denies that the Holy Spirit does things in the life of a Christian after they are saved.

What we are saying is that it takes the Holy Spirit to make a totally spiritually DEAD person alive in the FIRST PLACE, so that the person will REPENT and TRUST in Jesus.

There are seven major distinct ministries of the Holy Spirit:

Convicts unbelievers of sin, righteousness and judgment: John 16:8-11.

Calls and Regenerates (causing us to believe): 1 Cor 1:24; John 1:13, 3:1-8, 6:63-65; Titus 3:5, I Peter 1:23-25; James 1:18.

Notice these things the Holy Spirit does BEFORE the person repents and trusts in Christ.

THEN AFTER the person is saved:

Indwells and baptizes the believer: I Corinthians 6:19; Romans 8:9; John 14:16; I Corinthians 12:13.

Seals us: Ephesians 1:13-14; 4:30.

Imparts gifts: I Corinthians 12:7-11.

Fills the believer: Ephesians 5:15-21; Galatians 5:16.

Causes us to bear fruit: Galatians 5:22-23. conforming us to the character of Jesus Christ.

Hmmm....I think PJ needs some points for this, "Well James if you prayed as you said the lord can not answer your prayer according to your theology, then again he can not answer what he has already done, you know save everyone, it is just a matter of he, she accepting their salvation"

PJ = 2 points

James, You forgot about the part where the Holy Spirit then forces a person to believe what He is saying. Or is that what "causing to believe" means?

James wrote - "THEN AFTER the person is saved: Indwells and baptizes the believer"

Maybe I'm losing my mind here, but I thought you said once that the Holy Spirit invaded [my word] a person, making them born-again before they repented. You have the person saved and then the Holy Spirit indwelling them. I'm confused.
