I was having a debate with someone about this topic.

Are the jews the chosen people?

Let me rephrase....

Can an ethnic Jew choose to be a Christian?

T, Sure they can and I know a couple that are born-again Christians [Messianic Jews]. But there is still the Nation of Israel mentioned in Scripture and there are still promises by God made to them, and there's still prophecy that concerns them.

Maybe, all Christians and Jews are of Abraham. We're really all muts when it comes to our genealogy/DNA. There's no way we could trace back absolutely all of our ancestors. Maybe we're all Isreal? Maybe we're all the Elect?

I don't intend to start any fights...just rabbit trailing again.

T,

There are some that believe we're all Israel. The problem I see is that there are so many passages in Scripture that speak of National Israel. Many of those passages are promises to her that have not come to pass, many of those passages are punishments and judgments that have not come to pass. If those are no longer applicable since the birth of the Church, and the Church has become "Israel", what does one do with them? Do we apply the future of Israel to the future of the Church? Does the Church take on the sins of Israel, the punishments and the judgments that have to do with unbelief?

I'm still WAY behind ya, Saved! Haha! I'm still trying to figure out who Isreal is. :) I'm a baby baby Christian when it comes to this stuff. Plus, my brain is on a serious rabbit trail tonight. I'm in a 'contemplate the universe' kinda mood. Haha!

So, I have questions. :)

If a Christian (like you or me, ethnic American aka: mut) is in Isreal, will we still receive the punishments? Or just the descendants of Abraham?

Israel is like a tree that has not born fruit; it has been cut down, leaving the roots in the ground to sprout another day. In the mean time the Gentiles have been grafted into this stump. It is Jews and Gentiles that make up the Church.

As for the Nation of Israel: Countries just don't reappear 2000 years later unless God has plans!

T, It's cool. I have my own rabbit trails and they're pretty worn.

To answer your question, depends on one's view of end-times. I see a future judgment for Israel. When you have time, read Jeremiah 30. This chapter, I believe, speaks of the future Great Tribulation. But we see that Israel will be saved [vss 17-22]. If you or I are in Israel [let's go!] at the time this begins, again, it depends on your view of end-times and your position on when the Lord returns for His Bride.

After "the time of the Gentiles" is complete, only God knows how much time that skill be, however it looks close!
