I'm one of those people that does not believe Adam and Eve were the very first humans on the planet but that they were created for the purpose of beginning the line of the Messiah. This is evident in the fact that Jesus' lineage could be traced back to Adam and that the entire purpose of the Bible is to show us the story of the people and events that bring us to the arrival of the Messiah as prophesied throughout the OT.

Adam was not created in the garden but was put in the garden. I believe he was put there to protect the Tree of Life from intruders of any kind. Remember that after he and Eve were escorted out of the garden an angel was put in place to guard it so regardless of who was in it, it had to be guarded from intruders. Some will argue that the angel was placed there to keep Adam and Eve from getting back in but I don't think an angel would be necessary for that because God could have sealed it up in a different way to keep them out. Once the Tree of Life was taken to Paradise there was no garden and no need for the angel to guard it.

Gen 2:9 And out of the ground Jehovah God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food. The Tree of Life was also in the middle of the garden; also the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.

Rev 2:7 The one who has an ear, hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. To the one overcoming, I will give to him to eat of the Tree of Life which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.

As for the work in the garden, it was likely that it was not difficult work since the place was ultimately perfect. It was after the fall and in the curse that they would work by the sweat of their brow and so therefore they were going to have to experience hard labor and struggle for their survival whereas in the garden they just had to pick fruit off of a tree that was always there for them.

Genesis 3:22 - And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

What was the purpose of the Tree of Life at that time? And how, if eating from the Tree of Life, did one live forever? Especially after the Fall?

Saved, you should start a thread on Genesis 3:22 as well. It would be an interesting discussion.

@Mrmeanie,

I never did see the Gong show....didn't they use gongs to announce royalty in ancient China? Should I be thanking you? JJ

Of course there is wisdom in Gods word...I may not see it but it is there!

So what does Ezekiel' speech to the King of Tyrus have to do with what Adam was doing. The Garden is only mentioned to portray how grand the king of Tyrus was.

Nah... it was just a question that came to mind after Thunder's post mentioning the Tree of Life. It doesn't need its own thread. :)

@everyone:

Gen 2:15 And Jehovah God took the man and put him into the Garden of Eden, to work it and to keep/GUARD it.

Why was Adam to GUARD the garden,if YHWH was in the Garden.

Gen 3:8 And they heard the sound of Jehovah God walking up and down in the garden at the breeze of the day.

YHWH had given to Adam,to guard everything within the garden,this included Eve.

By this time the enemy had been cast out of heaven,and down to the earth.

Eze 28:13 You have been in Eden, the garden of God.

Now did Adam fulfill his position as Keeper/ Shepherd of the garden.

Shalom

I would think, since Eve was among the things Adam was put in the garden to KEEP, the answer to your question would be no. He didn't keep the serpent from approaching or deceiving her. He didn't KEEP the garden. Right or wrong, Mr. Meanie?
