"Are you sinless? Then wasn't Jesus's sacrifice enough to keep you from sin? I believe Jesus died to save us from our sins in the past, and to give us power to resist temptation in the future, and to give us grace to fall on if we sin....but I do believe we have a part to play, and the bible is pretty clear about that. "Go and sin no more"."

:) No ma'am, I'm certainly not. I fall, I stumble, and yet it is God IN ME, the hope of glory, that pulls me back. His sacrifice was to break sins' power over me, to redeem me (and everyone else who is called by His name) for Himself, to bring glory to Himself. My salvation is not about ME. It's about Him. His character, His ability to love, to secure, to enable me to live the life He demands I live. I cannot live a Christian life, in any form or fashion, without HIM. Because I am His, and His love is all consuming and all compassing, when I DO sin, the Holy Spirit convicts me and gives me the desire to turn. In all actuality, it is only by God's grace that I CAN turn from my sin- remember, man loves the darkness.

And of course we have a part to play. We're told over and over again to die to ourselves daily (what WE want), to take up our cross and follow Him, to test ourselves to see whether or not we're in the faith. These things are an conscious action of our will- It is us willingly surrendering our will to God's will. Humbling placing our wills under His. God draws us, He courts us if you will, but it is man's choice to respond to that. But that's at the moment of salvation (the drawing us and us responding.)

The rest of the above statement is a process we call sanctification. And sanctification takes time. In fact, according to Phillipians 1, it is a process that is not accomplished until we actually see His face. The turning, the repenting, the growing up in Christ (which is how we can become more and more Christ-like and turn from sin over and over during our relationship with Him) that's not done until the metaphoric fat lady sings.

If you obey the word of God, again I say if You obey the word of God in rightly dividing the word of truth, you can can in a sincere heart, deny scriptures that clearly teach otherwise, in the title of this post, which is poorly worded to properly address the topic, and most scriptures clearly state God's commitment to our covenant, but all have been denied that speak of man's responsibility to his covenant.

1  Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

Read The second and third chapter of second Timothy, the new testament is written to the church, to believers not the world.

Question if you are part of the body and the mouth spews you out are you in the body or out of it?

14  And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

PhillipJohn can you answer some questions for me? Please?

1. Does scripture say, anywhere, that we can absolutely know that we have eternal life? If there is scripture that says we can absolutely know for sure that we have eternal life, how do we reconcile it with those verses that say that it's only eternal if we do our part?

2. Is salvation a singular event in a person's life, or is it something that happens over time, depending on how the person saved respondes to God?

3. Are the verses that you've listed speaking to a particular goup of people during a specific time frame (even if it's a future undisclosed time frame)? For instance, who is Jesus talking to in Matthew 24? What is Jesus talking about in Matthew 24?

The scriptures refer to those that are part of the family of God. That is not exclusive to a specific time. We are part of the same church, as in the book of Acts, if church does not look like that, the problem is in that group of believers, not the word of God. The word of God is eternal it never changes. It will never pass away, it is the same yesterday, today and forever.

And I don't think you can lose your salvation, so no answer from me!

It is amusing when new people come to the forum and get in a debate with PJ!!! None of the regulars here respond to him any more because he is to think headed to listen or even reason with, even some of the nicest, graced filled people get insulted by PJ sooner or later. Besides he is in the process of starting his own cult through twisted scripture. :dunce:

No, it's not a gift, but after receiving a gift it is possible to destroy it. I don't think you read those parables at all, lol. The parable of the servant that had his debt forgiven(a gift) and then went out and demanded payment of a debt from another servant would fit this question pretty well. He received forgiveness, but abused it, and lost it.

:peace::peace:
