JUST IN FROM ANOTHER THREAD: TONGUES

In reading the Book of Acts, I see that Peter wasn't part of the groups that spoke in tongues. Peter had a better gift of knowing what was happening and explaining it and harvesting a crop of new believers.

Looking at Paul's writings, it is obvious that not all Christians should be speaking in tongues. They should pray to receive the greater gifts.

I think one of the greatest gifts is of those who no matter where they go they wind up helping someone accept Christ.

Here is something that most folks don't know. Among the Hindu followers, there is speaking in tongues.

Years ago, I met a woman (1st date) and I knew by her church that speaking in tongues was a big item. I told her that I had a problem with the teaching people how to speak in tongues. Doesn't the Holy Spirit know how to just give it? She replied that she really didn't teach them but instead let them watch and listen so that they got the idea.

Funny thing is; it doesn't sound like a language. There is too much rhyming and too much repeating of words. The worst case was a pastor saying, "To drink,......to drink, to drink, to drink. To drink!"

I have even run across folks who claim that God can't hear prayers that are not in tongues. No body gets saved I guess.

You sure do read a lot into the word that is not there. While the Apostles were witnessing in tongues, Peter was explaining to those that didn't understand what was being said.

I don't know why I am wasting my time on you, I said I wouldn't. Go ahead as you are. The first time someone speaks the truth through the Holy Spirit to you and you make one of your usual comments, you will have committed the unforgivable sin, if you haven't already.

I read a lot into the word that is funny, it is not called read at this point it is called believing

The holy came on how many?

How many spoke in tongues?

Peter said they received the Holy Spirit the same as who?

How did they know they received The Holy Spirit?

Those that hear the word and believe, will prosper from it!!

By the way you never acknowledged one bible truth out of all these responses

PJ said about Leon - By the way you never acknowledged one bible truth out of all these responses.

Leon has written more truth from the Bible more often than you PJ! You haven't even come close. And what is nice about Leon, he has humbled himself and admits his errors. Have you ever been humble? But these post about tongues have reviled your presupposition in how you read the Bible and why you are so wrong all the time.

To PJ:

And only PJ,please everyone else keep out.

PJ,Who is the Apostle Peter addressing here in verse 14:

Is Peter not addressing Jewish men, hwich language would Peter be speaking to these Jewish men, living in Jerusalem.

Would he not be speaking in their own language.

And what language would the be,Maybe HEBREW,or ARAMAIC.

Now how about verse 22,Peter address the men as ISRAELITES.

Peter also Calls Yeshua/Jesus 'The NAZARENE'.

All of these people understood what Peter was saying, for they were JEWS.

Peter obviously was speaking in their native TONGUE HEBREW or ARAMAIC.

Yes the Holy Spirit lived within the Apostles, yet the Holy Spirit did not have to give Peter the tongue of the Jews to speak, for he already spoke that language.

Act 2:1 And in the day of the Pentecost being fulfilled, they were all with one accord at the same place,

Act 2:2 and there came suddenly out of the heaven a sound as of a bearing violent breath, and it filled all the house where they were sitting,

Act 2:3 and there appeared to them divided tongues, as it were of fire; it sat also upon each one of them,

Act 2:4 and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, according as the Spirit was giving them to declare.

Act 2:5 And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation of those under the heaven,

Act 2:6 and the rumour of this having come, the multitude came together, and was confounded, because they were each one hearing them speaking in his proper dialect,

Act 2:7 and they were all amazed, and did wonder, saying one unto another, `Lo, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?

Act 2:8 and how do we hear, each in our proper dialect, in which we were born?

Act 2:9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and those dwelling in Mesopotamia, in Judea also, and Cappadocia, Pontus, and Asia,

Act 2:10 Phrygia also, and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Libya, that are along Cyrene, and the strangers of Rome, both Jews and proselytes,

Act 2:11 Cretes and Arabians, we did hear them speaking in our tongues the great things of God.'

Act 2:12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one unto another, `What would this wish to be?'

Act 2:13 and others mocking said, --`They are full of sweet wine;'

Act 2:14 and Peter having stood up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and declared to them, `Men, Jews! and all those dwelling in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and harken to my sayings,

Act 2:15 for these are not drunken, as ye take it up, for it is the third hour of the day.

Act 2:16 `But this is that which hath been spoken through the prophet Joel:

Act 2:17 And it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;

Act 2:18 and also upon My men-servants, and upon My maid-servants, in those days, I will pour out of My Spirit, and they shall prophesy;

Act 2:19 and I will give wonders in the heaven above, and signs upon the earth beneath--blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke,

Act 2:20 the sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the coming of the day of the Lord--the great and illustrious;

Act 2:21 and it shall be, every one--whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, he shall be saved.

Act 2:22 `Men, Israelites! hear these words, Jesus the Nazarene, a man approved of God among you by mighty works, and wonders, and signs, that God did through him in the midst of you, according as also ye yourselves have known;

PJ;I do not think anyone here wants you to remain infantile in your understanding,we want to see you growing in Grace,Love ,Faith and good deeds, even to the point of admonishing, correcting, and encouraging others unto Love, faith and good deeds.

Until that time, you will continue to be told to stop talking.

I want you to talk, yet be mindful of the topic, and the context of the Scripture you write.

I desire to see you maturing in faith.

Please stop listening to and reading things that are against the Word.

I have read your writings,I see that you are not well equipped to dividing the Word of GOD very well.

Please purchase a Hebrew and Greek Lexicon, along with a Strongs Concordance, and actually study and meditate upon the Word, having the Holy Spirit leading, and guiding you into all truth, righteousness and understanding.

George there is a small problem with what you say, the word does not agree with you and I am not going to join in with the unbelief.

Have you ever acknowledged The Gift of The Holy Ghost, when was the last time you prayed in tongues and magnified God.

You see I received the Holy Spirit years ago just like those that are an example to those that believe in Acts 2:4 and Acts 10:44 and Acts 19:2

You justification of what happened in Acts 2:4 is just that of reasoning. You either believe the word of God with your heart, and approach it with reasoning. one produce faith and one will be of sin for it is not of faith.

George the only reason I address this publicly Is because I know by your postings you are not in agreement with the word of God and our covenant.

My source is the word of God and man if they are in agreement with the word of God.

My recent post on The gift of The Holy Ghost was Just that, scripture is clear to subsequent act of the Holy Ghost besides the New Birth.

I know what it is to pray in tongues and I have for years It is the same Spirit that bore witness with my Spirit that I was saved.

That same spirit will also respond to any christian born again, you can also receive the Gift of The Holy Spirit.

@ Mike & MrRow...All of Psalms is Prayin out loud ta GOD...in Private...Soooo...this confirms we can/are ta pray out loud...not on Public...

Did not Jesus go to Pray alone...a Secret place ta prayer...did he not speak in OTHER tongues ? Greek was the main language of the time...He bein GOD incarnate spoke all languages...Hebrew & Aramaic which was diein out ...Soooo...Ifin He sought private prayer an spoke out loud in a unknown tongue....an we are given all that was given to Him by His Father as he Spoke this to His diciples...Why would either of you or anyone else want ta say this not TRUTH ?...

I can see that here is a division of beliefs...so be it...it is not for me ta Argue the Truth...only ta speak it...

Yall hava a blessed day...xo

Jude,

If Jesus prayed out loud in an unknown tongue, the bible doesn't admit it. Another thing wrong with your theory, and it is a theory since there is no biblical proof, is that most Jews spoke Greek and Aramaic, Hebrew having not been spoken for about 400 years at this point. At least not by any great number.

As for Psalms, most of them were songs and poems , the few prayers there we don't know if the author ever said them aloud or not. I do understand you trying to justify praying aloud only, as this is the only excuse for praying in tongues. What you do in private is between you and God. He knows your heart regardless of what is coming out of your mouth. However, what you are saying here is not biblical. Pray aloud if you want, there is nothing wrong with it.

Much love,

Leon

I hear ya brother Leon...Theory / Biblical or notthe point of this thread an my contribution in it is bout Tongues an how so many persons dis-believe the evidence of it for they have not experienced it for them selves an when they see this it freaks them out...thats all...some say it hasnt happened since olden times long ago...others say it is happenin taday...

I've witnessed that not all persons God uses in this manner...an it doesnt make a person that speaks in tongues any different than the one that does not...some persons receive multiple languages they have never studied nor spoken...an then those that receive a tongue that is unknown ta man an only GOD...

If it were not from GOD...a born again Christian would know this...a child of GOD is lead by the Holy Spirit an only Truth can come from the Helper that Jesus sent for Us...

Anywho...it dont make no never mind my ramblin here...as far as me prayin out loud an it bein OK...of course its OK...heck...I talk ta GOD out loud all the time...not jus in prayer......ya all hava blessed day...xo
