Marion,

You did not address the grammar of the text or Mark 16. Any text without a context is a pretext.

You have not been able to prove your position from scripture and certainly have not demonstrated any error in my exegesis.

Grace to you!

In Christ,

Walter

Marion,

You said: "ts everywhere in scripture walter.

WALTER: Are you implying I don't work for a living Marion? Can you be just a little bit more condescending? FYI... I work two full time jobs.

Marion: romans....where paul talks about continueing the work of jesus through the power of signs and miricles.

....heading.

paul the minister to the gentiles.

romans 15 verse 14 to 22

WALTER: The signs and miracles Paul was referring to was done through the Apostles to show they had the power of God to establish Christ's Church.

Mark 16:19 So then, after the Lord had spoken to THEM [the Apostles] , He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.

20 And THEY [the Apostles] went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with THEM [the Apostles] and CONFIRMING THE WORD THROUGH the accompanying signs. Amen. NKJV

Look at what Simon observed:

Acts 8:12 But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.

13 Then Simon himself also believed; and when he was baptized he continued with Philip, and was amazed, seeing the miracles and signs which were done.

Notice that Phillip was utilizing the power of the gifts he had but also notice that the Apostles had to come and lay hands in order for other people to receive the gifts themselves. Phillip did not have the unique power that the Apostles themselves had. He only had the power to exercise the gifts he himself received through the Apostles laying on hands upon him since he was a personal disciple of one of the Apostles.

14 Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them,

15 who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit.

16 For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

What is often misunderstood by Charasmatics is that when the scriptures talk about the Holy Spirit "falling down" on someone or them it is not talking about "Salvation" as everyone who places their faith in Christ, repents and is Baptized automatically receives the Holy Spirit Himself. When scripture speaks of the Holy Spirit falling upon someone it is speaking about the impartation of the gifts.

17 Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. (talking about gifts)

Acts 8:18 And when Simon saw THAT THROUGH the laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,

19 saying, "Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit."

Simon observed that the Apostles of Jesus Christ had a unique and exclusive power that no one else had.

Here's another.

Act 5:12 And THROUGH THE HANDS OF THE APOSTLES many signs and wonders were done among the people. And they were all with one accord in Solomon's Porch.

Notice that is was "through the hands of the Apostles" that many "signs and wonders" were done among the people.

So we see no biblical support for what Charismatics and Pentecostals claim today in that they are operating with the same gifts as the Apostles use to impart.

MARION: also i noticed that when you were preaching in one of your photos under your profile that theres a swan at the front of the bible stand your preaching from.

why a swan?

why not a cross?

just curious.

WALTER: It was not a "bible Stand" but a podium. It was not a swan, it is a Flamingo, a well known long legged pink bird here in Florida. It was part of the Singles Retreat theme of ChristianMingle here in Tampa a few years ago. It was called "Flamingle". Why would you assume I was "preaching"? I tend not to think that someone preaching would normally be holding a red plastic solo cup. That morning we were having a service and I was leading in the giving of the Lord's supper.

Grace to you!

Walter
