What is the 'Appropriate Scripture for Today'?

During this Easter week others have posted Scripture appropriate for what happened on the particular day in the Life of Jesus some two thousand years ago. So what is the appropriate Scripture for today? What was happening in the Life of Jesus on this day some two thousand years ago?

1 Peter 3:18-19 "For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, because they formerly did not obey, when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared......"

Btw, the "spirits in prison" may not be who you think.

and....

What is it that Jesus "proclaimed"?

Wow, twosparrows. I've read this, and I was perplexed before. I have an idea as to who the spirits in prison are of whom he spoke of, but I am not entirely sure I'm right.

What do think he is talking about? I'd really love to see your take on this.

Wow is right!

I don't know for sure either, however I have a personal favorite.

As to the "spirits", it could mean:

A) Those people who died in the flood

B) Those people who died before Jesus went to the cross

C) Fallen angels or demons

D) Specifically the fallen angels that may have interbred with humans

E) Specifically the offspring of fallen angels and humans

F) All of the above.

"prison" could mean :

A) The world before the flood

C) The world before the Cross

D) Sheol, Hell or Hades

F) Some other place specifically prepared by God

What Jesus "proclaimed"

A) Victory

B) The Gospel offer of salvation

C) Both

I'm going with B, B and B (Perhaps C)!

The First B. Because there were many many people who died before Jesus went to the cross, and the fallen angels, once they are fallen I believe can't be saved, because they knew God and his glory and willingly turned against him and followed Lucifer.

The Second B. I thought prison was the place the spirits are awaiting Jesus, so he may witness to them, I think Jesus dying on the cross covered all sins backwards in time as well as forward.

The Third B/C. I think they needed the gospel and to know God's son, and that he died for everyone's sins.

This is a extremely interesting verse to me.

The word "spirits" always refers to supernatural beings and never humans unless there is a qualifer. This would tend to make it mean fallen angels. Yet remember in the Bible at the time of resurrection people reported receiving their dead back, hmmm could be the people in prison that accepted Jesus's message.

As for my opinion; I think Jesus went to a prison prepared by God for those who were disobedient, fallen angels and humans (and possibility hybrids). Here Jesus proclaimed victory and possibility a message of salvation.

But there does appear to be evidence that fallen angels somehow mixed with humans.

Did God make Giants? Was there a race on earth prior to Adam and Eve? Or was the mark God put on Cain so no one would kill him 'Giantism'? Or were the Giants the offspring of fallen angels and humans? Oh and lets not forget Extraterrestrials!

So many questions!

But something weird happened back then.

Extraterrestrials, do you believe in them? I mean that they are from outer space, and that they're a more intelligent being than humans?

My take on Extraterrestrials in the sense of Fallen Angels is they definitely exist. (Satan and his angels were cast down to earth, therefore "extraterrestrials")

However if we are talking about other physical life forms created by God, Well.... I don't see any reason they can't exist, and where they come from is not that simple either : Another Planet, Another Dimension or Another Time.....still so many questions!

However the possibility brings up some interesting ideas as to what kind of relationship do they have with God. Did they fall? Did they get a Saviour? Is Grace offered to them? What if they didn't fall like man and some angels? Do they have some sort of a Bible? What do they know of God?

Oh, so many questions, like why can't you be 15 years older and me 15 years younger!

My beliefs are very much like yours, some of the many questions are answered in the bible, I suppose I have a lot of studying to do.

Many people's accounts of alien contact sound a lot like cases of demon possession and occult-like encounters.

As to why we're not closer in age, I don't think there's an answer except that the Lord works everything out for good. Even that which we don't understand!
