Walking by Faith or Sight?

Ecclesiastes 12:12 "....Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body."

Proverbs 21:30 "There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the LORD."

We are called to walk by Faith and not by sight. Obviously one must study to know what to have Faith in. However do you think to much studying is actually a attempt to walk by sight? And if so, where do you think that invisible line is where you leave the walk of Faith and attempt to walk by sight, by only walking only in what you have figured out; those things that you think you can see through formulas and logic.

Could it be the un-educated have superstition and rituals and the over- educated have logic and formulas?

Comments?

I think it depends on where the focus of your heart is and what in particular is being studied. We're supposed to be all about Jesus 24/7 and that includes both study of the Scriptures themselves and study of His character through prayer and meditation. Obviously, there must be a balance there; the Christian life involves far more than just sticking your nose in the Bible. I think it would be fair to say that if someone is just trying to acquire head knowledge, or if they have legalistic motives, that they may be studying too much. If someone is genuinely seeking the Lord and His wisdom, then study away =) On the flipside, "faith" ought not be used as an excuse for staying on a diet of milk and never investing the time necessary to grow spiritually. I've heard many a lazy person say that they're just "having faith."

Walking by sight is walking in the flesh, governed by the five physical senses and the mind, this is why Romans 12:1 and two reads as it does. The new man, the inward man in union with Jesus is to keep the body under, in subjection to him as well as his mind, if one will notice, you the new man in Christ is to renew his mind, that he the inward man might prove the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God. Renewing of the mind is a continual process as long as we are on the earth with will need to renew our mind to the word of God.

Mental Assent one can agree with the word mentally, but that will not produce any fruit, faith is an ingredient of the heart of man, that is planted ion the heart of man by hearing and hearing the word of God. Faith starts out as a seed and will grow as long as it is feed and acted on. Faith is an action on man's part and bible faith will always have a voice.

Mixing faith: is an action by man according to any given topic in the word of God.

Can a man or woman walk by faith if they are not yet born again, absolutely.

32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.

33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

1 And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.

2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!

3 And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?

4 And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.

5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:

7 And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.

8 If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.

9 Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.

10 But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.

11 And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?

12 I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.

13 And Moses said unto the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;)

14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou LORD art among this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.

15 Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,

16 Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.

17 And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,

18 The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.

19 Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.

20 And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word:

21 But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.

22 Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

23 Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:

24 But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

25 (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) To morrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

26 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

27 How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel,

This is a perfect example of walking by sight and not by faith, and if you notice there was two men that where walking by faith, and they where the only two that ended up receiving the promise.

sorry two I got long winded, yes walking by sight is death.

Spirit has no logic? He has no reality?

Remember PJ, logic relies on reality, not the mind. You are focused on man's logic(mind). I'm speaking about a reality. God exists, therefore He doesn't not exist. But where I know that or not(mind), doesn't change the reality(logic) of it.

Study to show yourself approved to God, a workman who needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth. 2 Timothy chpater 5

Description of what faith does and how it response when put into action: Now faith is the substance (assurance) of things hoped for, and tis the evidence (we have proof of what God can do) of things not seen. Hebrews chapter 11

For we are saved by hope, but hope that is seen is not hope for what a person sees, whu does he yet hope for it? But if we hope for that which we do not see, then we do it with patience and wait for it. Romans chapter 8

Ecclesiastess chapter 12; verse 12: Lets us know that reading and study self helped books or books written by many men who writes certain books explaining to people what God is saying, can't give us anymore information or instructions than what God has already givn us as to how we are live healthy Christian lives ccording to what He has given. People will grow tried of reading and hearing the same things men write and interpreting what man has tried to interpret of God's word.

But God's word is of a truth comes by revelation thorugh the Holy Spirit and He requires and instructs and command us to read and study His word, so that He might reveal Himself to us through His word, and no one grows weary of studying and reading His Word when it is taken into account and followed diligently as believers are suppose to do. God commands that we study and stay in His word day and night, we seek Him through His word....
