Did you hear what the man, said about the man that trys to communicate spiritual things being logical, or employing logic in understanding spiritual matters.

Logic is like a log in the eye you see, or do you really see with the log in the eyes.

Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Faith is not the absence of logic. Logic is not an attempt to please God.

The Christian faith goes beyond Logic, but it is NOT illogical.

One of the best textbooks on Logic was written by a Puritan.

PhillipJohn is saying that Logic, or proper reasoning, is the opposite of having faith in Jesus.

I realize that PhillipJohn comes from the charismatic point of view, and I bet that the sermons he hears gives the impression that logic is a bad thing, and opposed to the Holy Spirit.

I disagree completely. I think that God has, all through Scripture told mankind to think, and weigh the consequences of obeying Him, or not obeying Him.

I think that one of the ways in which mankind is MADE in the "image of God" is that we are rational creatures!

So, I am in total disagreement on this with PhillipJohn.

I think I can show about 20 verses of Scripture that show that God TELLS us to use our minds to think clearly about the way we live our lives.

In Christ,

James

James you are very right here. the entire book of proverbs says to use wisdom and follow God.if you do not it says what will happen. Wisdom and logic go hand in hand.

logic says to follow Jesus.

Look at the complexity of the coagulation cascade and tell me that it's not more logical to believe that it was designed by a divine creator than to believe that it happened by chance.

i know what your saying PJ and your right. We try to figure things out and we end up complicating it and making rules and guidelines.

He didnt intend for us to be that way.

Logic=religion, legalism

We cant serve God from our minds, they are finite.

Jude, that does not make any sense.

God cannot be sovereign if man is a rational creature????

Some of the comment on this thread are frightening.

If you reject the idea of a Christian using his/her mind, and thinking clearly, then all you will be left with is emotion and superstition!

Does not Isaiah say,

"come let us REASON together"?

I mean no wonder the doctrines of grace are rejected so much on this group. You guys reject logic itself!

I am thinking we need to start at the VERY beginning!

Reading comprehension......clear thinking.....1 plus 1 equals 2.

Good Grief.

In Christ,

James

James, and when God says Come now let us "REASON" together in Isaiah chapter 1, He sure isn't speaking about man expressing to Him, man's own logical thoughts about the matter. God is speaking about man coming ot HIm and talking to Him about why He should be saved from punishment.

God never teaches us to view His word according to ur own logical interpretations as to what we think God means by what He says. Logical thinking is putting a spin on what god says, and twisting it around to means what the person would like for it to mean.

This is why God gives us the invitation to come and explain (give reason) as to why He sholdn't punish us according to our deeds. as Isaiah says in the complete verse. Comenow, and let us reason together, says the Lord, though your sins be as scarlet they will be as white as snow though they be red like crimson they will be as wool. IF YOU ARE WILLING AND OBEDIENT (repentant), you will eat the good of the land." That God is saying is that He gives man an open opportunity in invitation of grace come and repent , and explain his side of the story in the matter, to make a choice. That's not logic, that's grace that we can freely come before the Father and repent and express our anger or saddness as to why we did or did not do something. So that He might forgive us according to our repentance and our knowledge of the consequences of our sins, and then He will administer punishment according to what we know, and how fast we are to repent.

Man's logic is trying to figure out God and what His words says, without revelation from the Holy Spirit. Man's logic says use only those who are wise and educated for the job... God says the foolishness of God is wiser than anything man could ever come up with... He uses the foolish things of man to confound the wise things of man based on His OWN determination, and does not use wise people for His work based on what or how much a person knows r has, He uses the weak things, but logical thinker would say for the best results, use the wise and the strong...

God is wiser than any lofgcal man could ever come up with... this does not eliminate reasoning, but it sure eliminates man trying to figre out God.

Oh, yeah, we Christian believrs understand grace and how it works, I think the problem is many of us Christian believers have is, that we don't understand why it is that we SHOULD understand MAN"S interpretation of how God's grace works, when God has already explained His power of grace.

So whose report should we believe" God's proven report, or man's own explanation of how and what he THINKS God means by His grace? God does not teache His grace as a doctrine therefore, its man's own logic that it should be a doctrine and have turn it into man's doctrine.
