Is it my job to produce fruit or to abide in Christ, or is it more of a combination, a cooperative effort. What am I responsible for; what is my job description?

One thing that is not your job is to lave people. You are to be a witness to them; Jesus will save them.

As for fruit, when we abide in Christ, I believe the fruit comes naturally, because, we are showing love, joy peace, etc.., which are the Fruits of the Spirit. So I guess I'm saying, by abiding in Christ, the fruit will come naturally.

Now I have to go think on this some more.

I believe we are responsible for both the fruits which are seen in our lives and abiding in Christ which brings forth those fruits. In John 15:4-5, Jesus said, "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye [are] the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing."

I am agreeing with everyone here.

It is a cooperative effort.

work out your salvation with fear and trembling BECAUSE it is GOD who works within you.........

I DO think that Christians grow at different speeds because some just apply themselves more, some are put in circumstances that force them to grow faster, etc.

But sanctification is a cooperative effort, and we SHOULD be trying to grow in our understanding of God's Word, and trying to become more Christ like as time goes on.

In Christ,

James

I agree with what you all have said here. It's our responsibility to Abide in Jesus and Be Obedient.

Abide in Christ and the fruit comes. Love others, care for widows and orphans, and tell others about Jesus.

James, to be honest, I did not expect that answer from you.... hmmmm....(just musing).... So before salvation mankind is dead. However after salvation mankind has the ability to cooperate with God. Yet there is a view that says before salvation mankind has the ability to cooperate with God. Yet after salvation we are to die to ourselves.

PJ and cattywampus,

Thanks for the laugh!

btw there are a couple of horses here licking and chewing...lol but I think it is alfalfa.

James replies:

There are some Christians that think that sanctification is entirely the work of God, but I don't see that in Scripture.

"There is a view that says that before Salvation Mankind has the ability to cooperate with God"

There NOT ONE verse of Scripture that says that fallen mankind has this ability to choose to repent and trust in Jesus.

We have SEVERAL verses that say that fallen mankind DOES NOT HAVE THE ABILITY.

I agree that the sum of the Christian life is self-denial.
