Question concering Alcahol

OK I grew up in a Baptist church, then went to Assemblies of God, and now Pentacostal. All of these churches believe that the word of God is what it says nothing to be added or taken away from the word. Now here is my question is alcahol wrong? I am talking wine, beer, liqour, any of it? I do believe that getting drunk is wrong cause the word says to not become drunk, however many churches believe it is wrong and say Jesus did not turn the water to wine it was grape juice. Is this not taking away from the word and adding to it? Also I forget where I read it but in Old testament I even read where liqour was part of a offering. Personally I feel alcahol, just like money food or any thing else can become a sin, when it comes first. Please let me know your thoughts ty:prayingm:

Wine or grape juice at the wedding feast? The answer can be found in John 2:10. ".... Everybody brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now".

*The phrase "to much to drink" is not applicable to grape juice.

I must say that phrase does make me think about it. Thanks for your insight.

So let me ask another question of you, I pass Kidney stones about 3-4 a year now, use to pass 12 or more. I had a few Dr tell me to drink 2-3 beers a week. That it would help keep my kidneys flushed. I also drink a lot of water as well. I know some medications have things such as Opioum in them. No telling what might be in other medications, So do you consider it wrong to drink couple of beers a week as medication not to get drunk.

There is a passage where Paul is writing to Timothy to "take a little wine for your stomach" (Paraphrase). Phillipians? I am not near my Bible.

I believe that you hit the nail on the head in your original post. Trying to say that references to wine are really references to grape juice is just adding what we want to read into the Bible. There are many verses dealing with the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption, but if any alcohol at all is as wrong as many wish to believe it is, wouldn't there be a more blatant ban on it? "Thou shall not drink wine or beer or any other alcoholic drink," would be fairly easy to interpret. Some will say that wine was lower in alcohol back then as an argument against drinking today. Shouldn't that again be an argument for drinking responsibly? Finally, we have 1 Timothy 5:23, where Paul encourages Timothy to drink some wine for his stomach. Not only is it another verse that condones alcohol consumption, but it also seems to answer your kidney question.

How long isthe season between a harvest in the middle east.In winter are there no grapes. jesus did say that the wine skins would expand and burst if reused. That means that alcohol expands the wine skins.

What if the rains come late, so the grape juice would turn to wine.It was laso used because of the dry climate. something else to drink. Dennis

1 Tim 5:23~ Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.

*** Sulfates in Wine have been used for infirmities for a very long time by many Cultures with good results

1 Cor 10:23~ All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

*** Purty Self ExplanatoryUse sound judgment & decision makingWhats best for a person

Titus 1:15~ Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

*** Ifin a person is prone to Drunkenessprobly not a good ideaIfin notits a personal choiceMy Granddad hada a class of wine with dinner all his Adult lifeHe lived to a Ripe ole Age( No pun intended )...Hope this helps ya in some way.GOD Blessxo

Love2cook,

The first question I could answer and did. The second question I honestly can't answer. The Word says you can drink but shouldn't get drunk. Obviously this isn't going to work for a person who is easily mastered by alcohol. This is the exact situation a person needs the leading of the Holy Spirit. There are people in the Bible that God forbade to drink. Are you one of them?....I don't know. Asking for others input as you have done is a fantastic idea. However, ultimately, this is something between you and God.

I'm not sure I feel qualified to answer these questions, as I just polished off a Fat Tire (very yummy beer, I highly recommend checking one out if you live somewhere you can get a hold of one).

Love2cook-

what helps with the kidney stones in the beer is the yeast, obviously you need it in a liquid form, but you can also get it from non-alcoholic beer. However, it only warns about drinking in the scriptures and does not actually forbid it. The exact warning it gives i believe is found in Eph where is says that drinking leads to dissipation in some translations. But, no, having a drink will not cause you to go to hell, unless of course it becomes a replacement for Christ and causes your character to change in opposition to Him.

Proverbs 21:17-- He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.

Song of Solomon 5:1 I AM come into my garden, my sister, my spouse: I have gathered my myrrh with my spice: I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey: I have drunk my wine with my milk: eat, O friends; drink, yea ,drink abundantly, O beloved.

Psalm 104:14,15 He causeth grass to grow for cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth; And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart.

I agree with advice the others have given. It's a personal choice. After I had my twins(23 years ago) the doctor told me to drink a few glasses of wine each week to build up my blood. And that's exactly what I did--- I Loved Christ no less nor did He love me any less.

Getting drunk would be something different. I see that as sin.
