Is it possible that the Beatitudes parallel the Gifts of the Spirit? I was studying this a long time ago. I never had heard any teaching about it but thought it was interesting.

From the KJV.

Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

The gifts are in parenthesis _

Mat 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (faith)

Mat 5:4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. (gentleness)

Mat 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. (meekness)

Mat 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. (longsuffering)

Mat 5:7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. (goodness)

Mat 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. (love)

Mat 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (peace)

Mat 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (temperance)

Mat 5:11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

Mat 5:12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. (joy)

Just a thought.

Thunder thanks for posting that! At first I was fascinated and awed, then a whisper said to me, why would you be awestruck, there is only one Holy Spirit would He not be consistent? I grinned real big and said yes!.....but it is still fascinating!

thunderofgod,

Didn't you mean fruits of the Spirit ( listed in Galatians) ; instead of Gifts of the Spirit ( listed in 1Corinthians) ?

They are not the same thing.

God Bless,

Deborah

ThunderofGod,

Sorry about that; I just realized I didn't make the G a capital.

God Bless,

Some believe the Holy Spirit produces fruit, I believe he is love.

You're right, I meant fruit of the Spirit. Thanks for pointing it out. Fortunately, I'm not posting this to a group that wouldn't miss the error on my part. :glow:
