Once again! I can't help it!Posted : 30 Aug, 2010 08:05 AMOk, so...to bring a dead horse up for some more beating...I was just thinking about the verse in the bible where Jesus is telling His disciples and followers that there would be a time of trouble coming. He said, "But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day"(Matt. 24:20). Then I thought about the counter-argument that I hear a lot, "Look at the context! Duh! He was a Jew speaking to Jews, the Sabbath is only for the Jews in the Old Covenant". So then I was thinking...but Jesus knew He was going to die...and He knew He would be putting everyone that believed in Him under the New Covenant...everyone...including Jews. Isn't every believer under the New Covenant now? So Why did Jesus tell these people that they should pray their flight wasn't in the winter, full of suffering and starvation...and then also tell them to also pray that their flight wasn't on the Sabbath either? After His death and the entrance of the New Covenant? That is, if it's not important to New Covenant Christians? I mean...it seems like a pretty big deal if Jesus compared avoiding breaking the holiness of the Sabbath to avoiding suffering and starvation, right? |

Once again! I can't help it!Posted : 30 Aug, 2010 07:26 PMI don't why Jesus said that, but I can certainly see a Seventh Day Adventist USING it. |

Once again! I can't help it!Posted : 30 Aug, 2010 07:37 PMIt's one of the 10 commandments too. It's the symbol of God's creative power. You can see that a lot in the bible. God's day of rest in direct connection with His creative power. I just think it's pretty important...at least to recognize it as a special day. Doesn't really matter what day you go to church on...but I think it does matter what day you keep holy. |

Once again! I can't help it!Posted : 31 Aug, 2010 07:52 AMSorry I missed you James, we must have been posting at the same time. Yes, Adventists are big "church" history buffs. All the great reformers. We believe that God was leading people out of the error that the catholic church brought in. God showed each of them just enough truth for them to handle. If He had blasted them with it all at once, they would have rejected all of it completely because it would have been so against what they had learned and believed for so long. God has always been interested in "teaching"/"wisdom"/"knowledge", and you don't teach by bringing everything a person needs to learn on them all at once. Anyway. I believe all the reformers were mighty/saved men of God, but I do not believe that they had all truth. Try reading the Great Controversy sometime, it might be a fun experiment, it's basically everything Adventists believe about the history of Christians. |

Once again! I can't help it!Posted : 2 Sep, 2010 08:02 AMBecause I think it's an important truth. I believe that God wants us to keep all of His commandments, and I just think it's strange that the one commandment that recognizes His power/dominion/title, and the one commandment that says "remember", is the same commandment that "doesn't matter" and that we should "forget". I just think it does matter. |
