JUST IN FROM ANOTHER THREAD: TONGUES

In reading the Book of Acts, I see that Peter wasn't part of the groups that spoke in tongues. Peter had a better gift of knowing what was happening and explaining it and harvesting a crop of new believers.

Looking at Paul's writings, it is obvious that not all Christians should be speaking in tongues. They should pray to receive the greater gifts.

I think one of the greatest gifts is of those who no matter where they go they wind up helping someone accept Christ.

Here is something that most folks don't know. Among the Hindu followers, there is speaking in tongues.

Years ago, I met a woman (1st date) and I knew by her church that speaking in tongues was a big item. I told her that I had a problem with the teaching people how to speak in tongues. Doesn't the Holy Spirit know how to just give it? She replied that she really didn't teach them but instead let them watch and listen so that they got the idea.

Funny thing is; it doesn't sound like a language. There is too much rhyming and too much repeating of words. The worst case was a pastor saying, "To drink,......to drink, to drink, to drink. To drink!"

I have even run across folks who claim that God can't hear prayers that are not in tongues. No body gets saved I guess.

OKAY! LET THE BRONCS OUT OF THE CORALS AND LETS RIDE 'EM COWBOYS AND COWGIRLS:yay::bouncy:

It is better left to those who understand the topic, to share the word of God,can an unsaved person help a person understand the benefit of accepting Jesus.

The bible does not make it an issue of tongues, but those that are taught against the word of God, have accepted the lies.

Read what Jesus said about Acts chapter 2:4 and tell us what the message or truth is here.

Accept Jesus!! Really?? Do you really think God is waiting for us to accept Him? He does not need our acceptance! Not even submit or make a decision it is more like, total surrender. Acts 17:30....God...commands all men everywhere to repent,

Doesn't sound like He is wants acceptance, but obedience.

PJ, I will be praying for you. You are letting a man made doctrine rule you and make you hateful to God's people. A Christian does not make remarks like that. We love you and pray God teach you.

Leon There is no greater hatred than to say the word of God is not true. For instance is any of this post written in light of scripture, absolutely not.

Hello everyone:

PJ: you are correct about one thing on the thread,Where is the Scripture where this began.

We need the starting point,it will be the the Word of the Lord,or mans words and ideas.

Yet I have to say,we are to recieve ,not accept Yeshua, for He is Lord and Saviour.

Receiving someone and accepting them are two different situations.

John 1:11 to his own things he came, and his own people did not receive him;

John 1:12 but as many as did receive him to them he gave authority to become sons of God--to those believing in his name.

Christ accepts us based upon his own person and work.

He also gives to us life and faith to not resist the Holy Spirit ,in trusting Yeshua to save us from the wrath and judgement of God.

In I Samuel 3:9 Eli told Samuel to say, "Speak LORD, for Thy servant is listening."

Too many times today, instead of reporting for duty, we give the Lord a "To Do" list. Instead of give us our daily bread, we ask for riches.

We should ask the Spirit to give us gifts for the work of the Lord, not a gift that we think is cool. We shouldn't be envious of others.

If everyone speaks in tongues at once during a service, the non believer will think that all are drunk like Acts 2:13. Peter had the gifts of knowledge, wisdom, teaching and exortation and he used them to add about 3,000 to be followers of the Lord.

The Holy Spirit gives gifts as He is willing.

1Co 12:11 and all these doth work the one and the same Spirit, dividing to each severally as he intendeth.

What the body needs today, are those that will not only serve for nothing, but those that will also teach the word as it is written, without looking for rewards,or recognition.
