unequally what?

i have seen the unequally yoked argument a bit on this site and a thought popped into my head; "who is man that thou art mindful of him? could an awesome God find common ground with him?" what communion does light have with darkness? yet the holy of holies .. yes GOD sent his son to die for us while we were yet his enemies and live in our hearts. i would like to hear some thoughts on this please as i see it as a direct contradiction in the conventional light, but through the lense of God's grace, mercy and love it looks totally different. your point of view would be greatly appreciated.

James replies:

I have always heard by preachers and theologians that to be

"unequally yoked" was an expression that meant not to be married to an unbeliever.

Hello everyone:

2ndCorinthians 6:14

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers:

When we read the Word of God, there are several ways to interpret and understand the Sriptures.

1.Reading in or according to the context.

2.Is this to be understood Literally or Spiritually.

3.Is this a Parable

4.Is this an Allegory

5.Is this Hebrew poetry

6.Is the prophetic

7.How is this applied

I believe we get the idea, about reading, studying, interpretting and application.

I find that many men and woman will listen to what a man calling himself a pastor-elder or a teacher.

They will take what is said as though it is true, without being like a Berean and investigate the Word for themselves.

Many are being led astray, seeing the people do not want to read and study for themselves.

Some do study, and yet they say Spurgeon says,or D.L.Moody says,or this one or that one says,as though this one or that one is the Holy Spirit, who empowered men to write the Word of GOD.

When reading this Scripture within the context we find this is written to believers(vs.1-2,14-17).

The Holy Spirit empowers Paul to write to the Corinthian believers about not having fellowship with the unbelievers,(vs 14-15).

In verse 17 Paul writes that the believing Corinthians are to come out from among THEM.

Who is THEM?

Is them an unbeliever someone is dating.

After being married one partner trusts Yeshua, while the other does not, does this partner now come out from being unequally yoked.

Is this talking about business partners, how about employee-employer relationships, how about family relationships.

Who is this THEM the Corinthians are to come out from, and what does it mean to come out from.

In the context THEM are those, that are unrighteous, darkness, worshipping Belial, and idols(vs14-16).

I believe this is talking about when we come together, to corporately worship the Lord and break bread, that we should not be inviting unbelievers to join with us (1st Corinthians 14:1-33,look closely at vs.23-25).

The unbelievers cannot worship the Lord, they do not even know Him.

Breaking bread is strictly for the believers( 1st Corinthians 11:17-26),this is time for believers to have a Memorial meeting talking about Yeshua/Jesus.

This is an interactive meeting, that only believers understand.

I believe the Holy Spirit wanted the Corinthians, when they would meet together, to be seperated from unbelievers(that is unless the Lord brought one to them..1st Corinthians 14:23-25).

Why do we want this to be just about engagements and dating relationships, but not about our meeting together, with other believers.

If the application is for relationships, then we would only work with and having dealings with Christians only.

No car pools,no lunches,no family get togethers,no appoinments unless they are with believers.

We should not buy food, clothing or any other type of necessities unless we buy from believers.

I say this with tongue in cheek, seeing we like to pick and choose the Scriptures and the application as long as it benefits me.

A little leaven leavens the whole lump.

I hope everyone has a Blessed day:

George

I think it does mean our relationships, but only our close personal relationships, such as the romantic ones.

Say you are an addict who is recovering and you go witnessing to other addicts. This is great, thy can relate to you and know you have been there and are not making it up as you go. However, you don't go back into that situation alone or for long periods of time for one simple reason; anyone can be strong for a time, it is easy. But if you are faced with it 24/7, all it takes is a weak moment for you to be right back where you were.

God wants His children to come to Him and stay. (Like the seed falling on good ground) Why take the chance that you will be one of the other seeds?

Much love,

Leon

Un~Equaly What ?Yoked...I truely believe this goes beyond the simple basic relationship...As George shared...

Its about bein in the midst of Kindrid Spirit...Fellowship...Speakin fer my self only here...I take this verse very seriously...

Un = UN-done in the end...

Equaly = Balance as in a Scale...as Equal at the Foot of the Cross...no better...no worse...

Yoked = Two or More hitchd tageter like an Oxens Yoke. They work tageter, side by side, niether one works harder or against the other one an they both accomplish the task an purpose for the same result...a job well done...vittles an rest...

If the Principle behind an in this verse were to be applied in everyones life everydayWellI believe everyone would be all the more Happyerxo

P.S....Thanxs Nyanda, George, Leon an PJ... :-)

i appreciate the feedback, but no one addressed the relation to Christ choosing a evil bride, so to speak. we are his enemy after all, all that is in us, he is the only thing good about us. why would Christ court us? if we are to follow Christ are we not to be like him? well i would like to know why he called (all of)us and expects us to be like him. that's what i want to know your thoughts about, not the verse per say.

p.s he did call all of us, we all are not chosen however.

When your child does something wrong you don't hate them, you still love them and correct them. If they come back to you then you have regained a relationship with them if not then you eventually you have to leave them to their own devices (I'm talking older kids here not babies). Christ is basically doing the same thing. Christ came here to call to us but He is only yoked to those that will follow Him. Once we are in Heaven we won't be the "evil bride" anymore, we will be glorified. Those that chose not to follow Him will have their part in the lake of fire.

i c.

yes, evil bride. none are good, no not one. the most we can manage imo is thankfulness, it can be argued that since God may be pleased with a person that they are justified, but i believe anyone can fall. and yes, God will come for you if you please him and happen to fall, but the fact still remains that anyone can fall because of our sinful nature. thank God for his faithfulness...!

You have ,apparently the natural tendency to complicate the simplest verse. Un equal Duh? Yoked Duh? Let's not try to plow with a chicken yoked to a mule....JOHN
