Galatians 6:7-10 says, "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith."

I understand most of what this passage is saying. The last verse says "therefore", so because we will reap what we sow if we don't lose heart we should do good to all, but why does Paul say we should do good especially to those of the household of faith? Shouldn't we spend more time doing good to those who are not of the household of faith, so that in doing so we might be a testimony to them of who God is?

Yes mam, the problem though is in what he said, sowing to the flesh.

Well, it does say, "everyone, but especially those who are of the household of faith".

The whole chapter is about how we should treat other Christians.

I think when it comes to charity, if anyone in our local church needs help that we should help them first, and then anyone else who needs it. I think it teaches that we should do good to others, but we have a special responsibility to other Christians.

In Christ,

James

I agree James but I also see a clear warning in do not be deceived, God will not be mocked, God established the law of sowing and reaping in Genesis and if man let's his flesh or mind, will and emotions and body dominate him, he will sow and reap corruption.

Hey, Katie, good question =) I've wondered about that before, as well. And I concur with James: The Bible clearly teaches that believers do have a special responsibility towards fellow believers. Acts 2:44-45, 1Timothy 5:8, and 1John 3:17 provide further insight into this instruction.

So now the question is who are the believers? Just because someone names the name of Jesus does not make them a believer. And what do we do with false teachers? be nice? or call them out and name names?

Sorry but when the gospel gets twisted, confused or perverted I don't play nice.

I am a 6 point Calvinist after all! I believe in burning heretics.

@Darrell- That's where discernment and wisdom come into play. I'm sure you aware of the numerous verses that discuss that we will know believers by their love and by the fruit they bear... You could also look at Matthew 18 and Titus 3 for some guidance w/ that.

DARRELLO, YOU DO UNDERSTAND THE BIBLE TEACHES A MAN'S LIGHT CAN BE DARKNESS, ONE CAN SAY ALL DAY THEY ARE RIGHT AND EVERYONE ELSE IS WRONG, KNOWING THE WORD AND HIS WAYS, IS THE ANSWER TO ALL MAN'S PROBLEMS JESUS WAS AND IS ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT THE FATHER OR IN OTHERWORDS LIFE, BELIEVERS SHOULD BE LIFE CONSCIOUS AND NOT SO FULL OF DEATH OR SIN THEY ARE BOTH SYNOMOUS WITH SATAN.

Okay I had to wipe my eyes to see if this really came from you!

...ONE CAN SAY ALL DAY THEY ARE RIGHT AND EVERYONE ELSE IS WRONG...

Hmmm???...That is exactly what you do! I can't think of one person here that you haven't refuted as being wrong and you being right. I could be wrong here cause I have not read all post.

So to be fair and honest and Christian like let me judge myself by that same standard. There is one here I reject out right, well make that 2 counting you. Except you have stumble over a nugget like a blind squirrel a time or two. Then there is a large number of people that I agree with most of the time and the stuff I disagree on is nothin to harp over. There are a few I agree with everything I have seen them post, we may disagree on some things but those things haven't been talked about here.

So in fairness to judgment, I have only pointed out to one person they are dead wrong to my recollection. I have disagree with a few others, but I am not saying I am right just cause I disagree, now that may sound like I am saying I am right, but what I am trying to say is they will need to bring more to persuade me to their ideas or understanding.

I would say based on my personal perspective only one person here can truly say this about me, "...that he has a, I think am right and you are wrong attitude..." and I am okay with this person feeling this way towards me because I do not believe we belong to the same faith. And I'll admit, I could be wrong about that.

Still cracks me up though!!!
