Yoga came from pagan religion and it is not only physical exercises ,but also spiritual. Yes , spiritual in a pagan way when you have to open yourself to many hindu gods.

one of the ideas of yoga is to fill your mind with nothing and have a clean mind. The Bible teaches as to fill our mind with the Word of God and prayer.

And logical question for a born again Christian - Why would a Christian need yoga? Doesn't JESUS privides us FULL peace? Spiritual life to the full ? Why would Christian need extra help with getting peace?:)

In the Bible God says that He is jealous God and He will not give His glory to an other nor to idols.

Good point I agree with ya!!! Yoga is the salvation method of Hindu's.

It would be like a Hindu pretending to "repent & trust Jesus".

On the other hand, what about the physical benefits? Most of the physical benefits are due to stretching, being relaxed and improving muscle tone. Do you think a Christian can do the physical aspects of Yoga without doing the Hindu religious stuff? Can you separate the two?

Personally I dont see the point. If you want to stretch and improve your balance or what ever do something else, then spend time reading the Bible and praying to the Master Healer.

I have seen articles about studies done on the physical effects of prayer and meditation, but the studies included various religious prayers. I have yet to see (read about) any scientific study done on the healing power of praying to the One True God and reading His Wordit would be phenomenal!

In Him,

There is nothing wrong with yoga or martial arts if you keep Jesus in the mix. Yoga is great for stretching your core (torso). So keep the stretching, kick out the pagan gods and enjoy!

yoga? bla...

it's not biblical. can you imagine paul, peter, john doing yoga? :ROFL:

Jesus is EVERYTHING! not just for salvation, but for every aspect of our lives. do not compare yoga to swimming, or jogging:stop:

for the yoga lovers, do you believe in chi?

well... 1 Corinthians 1:23-25;

23But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;

24But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

25Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

I'll be the odd girl out here and admit to practicing yoga =) BUT, it is purely a physical thing for me. I do it because the exercises really help me to maintain flexibility and muscle tone. Yoga is a just a fun, easy, low-impact workout, which is great if you're under the weather and can't do something more intense. Usually, I put on some worship music while I do it and sometimes will pray, as well.

I first heard of yoga more than 30 years ago. It was then introduced and profiled against the western stress! We all needed to relax in our busy busy life and yoga was a way.

I never practised it but I do not see why it could be against God. To leave all your busy day-to-day thoughts drift away and just think of nothing for a change is not worshipping other gods.... in fact you might get your head clear to finally let God in...

There is danger in everything. Soccer players can become gods, pills can become saviours, cars can become holy cows, therapy can become a bible....

Every non biblical way to relax is dangerous.... some take a drink, others a cigaret, others spent hours watching TV and then there are those who go run 50 times around the block first and then take that drink...

If you think it leads you into temptation, then dont practise it but personally I do not think that other gods just can barge in and knock me off my faith in God while I am trying to keep my balance and try to relax while standing in such an incredible "bodystand" as they manage to do in yoga.

Yoga is great for stretching. We need not go looking for a devil in every bush. I use it to help stretch the muscles around my hips and core in general. Stretching is a physical activity, not religious.

I believe in other relaxation things.If I need to work out I will walk or jog.If I need to relax I read the word or a book. I would never do Yoga because of the appearance of where it came from.

HINDU------- Just my view.I like to play it safe.Dennis

Stretching; it does the body good! Seriously, stretching is stretching and nothing more. If people were using it to "clear the mind" then I'd say that is a problem. But when you are using the physical aspect of it to maintain your fitness, there is no devil in that. It is not any different than running. I think people must have it confused though. You aren't sitting with your legs crossed saying "ohm, ohm, ohm" until you feel better. There is much more physical activity than that. Look it up on youtube
