the gospel is not preached to all people. Those who do hear it do not respond the same.We will never be convinced that our salvation comes from gods great mercy until we understand eternal election.Gods grace is shown by the fact that he does not give away salvation to everyone. Not understanding this great truth takes away from gods glory and prevents true humility.Paul maintains that the principle can only be understood if works are set on one side, and god is seen to elect those whom he has predestined. His exact words are"So too,at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. And if by grace, then it is no longer by works.if it were, grace would no longer be grace"(rom.11;5-6)

I for my part do not want to know if God gives His grace to everyone. I know He gave it to me, and I know I am to tell others about it. That's what I do, this is my part in the whole story, what God does in His part I do not care about, for it's His business and it burdens my heart thinking there are people ending up in hell. I stil hope that there is a way for an empty hell, though I know scripture. But for Him nothing is impossible.

God bless you

Amen brother. No christian wants anyone to suffer hell, but he has revealed these things in his word for us to know.if anyone says that god could foresee who would be holy and elected them on that basis you reverse pauls order. So we can only conclude that he ellected us to make us holy,he did not elect us because he saw that we would be holy. The two things are in direct opposition to each other. Some people say "well I dont beleive god forces you'but there is no force, only mercy,we all choose sin and deserve damnation .the fact that he chose to save some, and not all is his purpose, not ours.....why did he make fish or worms, maybe they would complain if they could speak or reason. The bible says everything is for his glory.if someone doesnt like that fact then they are reading the wrong bible. What christ said to his disciples applies to all beleivers"you did not choose me,but I chose you(john 15;16)He not onlyexcludes past merits, but maintains that they had nothing in themselves for wich they could be chosen, except what he knew he was to do in mercy. How are we to understand pauls words "who has ever given to god that god should repay him(rom.11;35)We could not give all the praise and glory to god for our salvation if it were not free and undeserved,if we were smarter or better or wiser orEct. than our unsaved neighbor than we would deserve some of the credit for our salvation. But this is not what we find in the bible.

Good morning Sir

Your statement about calvinism. I think that is a little oversimplyfied.

Calvisnism is indeed not the bible. In fact it is not a gospel either.

It was a religious reaction in reply to the Roman Catholic belief that salvation could be bought.

It has indeed a strong accent on sin and everyone being a sinner. Also the damnation is, for todays free world, very accentuated but it cleary includes mercy, however not through good deeds or faithful churching, but only through the precious blood of Jesus Christ.

In the time of Luther and Calvin, there was a tremendous need for these messages, as the christian world only existed of Roman Catholic dogmas which are, as you know, slightly different than The Scriptures teach.

I think that calvinism and the damnation in particular is no more a lead in todays christianity as we can all read the bible for ourselves and see in what context damnation and salvation is written.

But I dare say that if Luther and Calvin had not widely spread out their radical messages back then, christianity would today be quite different.

But you are right in suggesting that calvinism is not the full and complete truth (as it never pretended to be).

In fact, no human has a patent on the truth. We are only grasping parts of it, if at all. Fortunately, our salvation does not depend on our knowledge or achievements but on our faith. Therefore there is hope, even for ourselves.

By the way I am not a calvinist but I am from Holland though...

Thank you for letting me bite....

best personal regards

Harriet

We know that you dont want to put titles (denominations) on the gospel. But you are doing it yourself, naming MOG a calvinist when he never said he was.

So, while you are defending the gospel, trying to keep it pure, you are also judging our brother. I know he's a big boy and can take care of himself but how many people do you think WANT to post things on this forum because they see others judging and accusing of false doctrine.

This should be a place where anyone can post their beliefs and we love them, no matter what. not throw stones or name call.

every believer will be on one side or the other when it comes to armenianism vs. calvinism. Or both...I happen to be straddling the fence on both.

let me ask you a question. Do you think our salvation was pre-determined or do you think due to our free will we came to Jesus on our own?
