1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.

3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.

6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. (1 Corinthians 12)

1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.

2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine? (1 Corinthians 14)

12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.

13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. ( 1 Corinthians 14)

YES! I believe the Gifts of the Spirit are Very Real.God's Word tells us to seek them.I see the gifts working daily in

many children of God.We are to pray to receive them.

Absolutely!!!!: applause:

All of them for the ministry of the body.

At least one, to each believer and several as the Spirit wills.

When I enter a body of believers, I just see them with beautiful packages from the Bridgegroom to His Bride: Preparation for the great day of the upcoming Wedding.

Some are very practical just like we would give to a newly engaged woman. Some are the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Some are for beauty, virture, and fitting of a future companion to the King of King and Lord of Lord's. All are absolutely necessary.

Yet, sadly, they are unwrapped.

Worse, they are often denied, cursed, and forbidden.

Most tragically is the state of the bride and her body...spotted, blemished, weak, sick, naked, torn, bruised, defeated, and deceived.

I am a Reformed Charismatic............If you know what a reformed Christian is you'll know that they aren't generally charismatic. The abuse of the gifts has forced less excentric thoughtful Christians to reject something God has given us to use for His Glory. Because of TBN, Benny Hinn, etc. the gifts are given a bad wrap.

Spiritual gifts are not taboo. Embrace the gifts of God, walk in the Spirit. But try every spirit! Just because someone claims such and such a gift....does not mean it is lagitimate!

As I mentioned the practical use of the gifts, and your response regarding misuse. I thought of a tool--the hammer. Do you know some people misuse hammers even to the extent of violence? Yet, hammers in and of themselves are not forbidden

In order to understand, I need to inform you I am really, really incompetent with tools. I still tend to grab a high heel shoe instead of a hammer.

I see quite alot of things I don't understand spiritually that people do within ministry that checks my spirit, bogules my mind, and repulses my flesh. Some of my reactions are plainly my adversion, emity to, lack of knowledge-understanding. Some of it is my bias: depending more on the doctrines and the traditioms of men through the divisiveness of DEMONinationalism, OH WAIT, denominations.

(I'm of Appollas, I'm of ...., I'm a Baptist,...Pentacostal.. )

We are still as a body part puffed-up, proud, thinking we are better and our veiw is right. Our divisiveness, biting and devouring one another--destroys our witness but more important grieves the Holy Spirit. Our UNBELIEF as believers has the same results as in Nazareth, we quench the Holy Spirit. Our limited thinking, understanding, experiences and imagination; we Box (limit) the Holy Spirit. Our falling for the deceptions of not offending people, we resisit the Holy Spirit. Our knowledge to truly walk in the Spirit brings forth the same results as Jesus and the early church received persecution, we reject the Holy Spirit.

He may have given us the gifts but they cannot function without Him supplying the continuous power in their activation. Just like all the power tools (and kitchen gadjets) in my closet need electricity or their useless, dust collectors.

I don't understand some of the things people do especially those with big names but I probably would have been real upset at the things Jesus did. I probably would have thought He was showing off several times in doing some of those miracles. I would have been especially upset, when He disagreed with my favorite pharisee!

There are a couple of times in the New Testement were the denominational issues are addressed: the Samaritian Woman; when the disciples wanted to call down fire to consume a man preaching the Kingdom; the story about body parts rejecting each other "no need of you", people preaching for filthy lucre, and probably more.

I have watched a children's cartoon with my children for years called "Superbook" and "Flying House" They go back in time and observe biblical events. Oh, how I have desired to go and see the ministry of Jesus, to be in His presence, and at His feet. I read the Word and I see so clearly, I personally have a form of godliness but lack the power. I need the body, every part and all those gifts to see, to live and fulfill the ministry

Solution: REPENTENCE, unity, humility, stirring-up the gifts, embracing the Holy Spirit, practicing (won't get good with that hammer...) patience, love, acceptence, discernment (not judgement)

In "The Life and Diary of David Brainerd" he comes to the realization in prayer that when he looks at who Christ is and then reflects on himself he can see...he has never ever done anything in his life that was worthy of Christ.

My point, we are all worthless beggers desiring scraps from the Lords table. But alas, in His grace, he has set a place for us in Jesus Christ's name, and we can sit with Him. All we recieve is a gift of the Spirit.

Why we have umpteen million bible teachers telling us how to move in the spirit, or use our gifts, or whatever is beyond me. Jesus said "repent, and believe, and you will live" what's harder than that?

What God desires is that we hold fast in faith to Christ, obey His word, and glorify Him. If we concentrate on the transformation of our minds and conforming of ourselves to His will, we won't have any problem with His gifts of the Spirit.

Travis,

Of course , none of us have done anything that is worthy of Christ. That's the beauty of our salvation: we no longer have to be worthless beggers.

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God:-The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ".(Romans 8:14,16,17). Isn' that Amazing? We don't have to beg anymore- - - we can Boldly cry, "Abba, Father!"

As for the umpteen million Bible teachers: : :"And he gave some, apostles; and some , prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ"(Ephesians 4 :11, 12 ).

God has chosen and anointed many to be teachers and leaders in this body . More of us need to listen, take heed, and learn from the elders God has placed in our lives.Until the Lord takes us HOME;we should daily be open to learning any and everything God wants to teach us : : whether it be on our own; by searching the scriptures or through other brothers and sisters that God has chosen to reveal things of the Spirit to.

'Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above;(James 1 :17)

I pray you continue to grow in your walk with Christ. God bless you, Travis!

Your sister in Christ,

Deborah

Deborah,

Thanks for the scripture. In all kindness and brotherly love, I must say that the umpteen million bible teachers I was refering to were not the godly men down at the corner church. I was refering to people like televangelists, health and wealth people, all the end times prophecy nuts, etc. I'll name no names, I pray that God will convict them of their error.

I'm glad you agree with my main point, I may have been stating the obvious but I thought it was important, given the discussion.
