If gifts were for today such as dramatic healing as done in tents and rivals, and those that do them were that concerened fo those who are suffering we would have no need of hospitals. Strange how they only heal things you can't see isn't it?
In regards to speaking in tongues. the sriptures says:
1 Corinthians 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
2 Timothy 2:16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
1 Timothy 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
Jesu only healed those who believed.He never healed those who did not believe.He healed many to show who he was and told us to do the same.Many different kinds of healing out there.Spiritual and to heal the body.
Yes,I have the gift of speaking in tongues.It can not be given if it is not of god.Plus we an not get a gift like this if we are serving anything else but god.You can only haveone master.
Otherwise,for those who will try and say a gift from god is from the devil, how can we serve satan and god both.
The pharesies tried saying Jesus was of the devil.
Such gifts if they are here are for believers.I hope this answers your questions and stops any false teachings about receiving the gifts.
I used to doubt too until I saw a creative miracle with my own eyes.
it brought new meaning to John 14:12...it became rhema immediately. I had new revelation!
Jesus was healing the sick, raising the dead and delivering those who had demons.
I've seen tumors shrink down to nothing, I have seen a women who's leg was shorter than the other grow out and it was filmed with a video recorder. There are things happening that do not have a natural explanation but it's because these things are supernatural. God does things that we cannot explain on purpose, just for that reason!
Mr Lane I declare that you will see a creative miracle very soon. Something that will turn your doctrine upside down, but it will be God Himself. As cattle stated, God is the same yesterday, today and forever.
My dad tells me that I cannot tell him anything because I am a child (to him) but he was miraculously healed from cancer. He still wont admit it was a miracle although he is a believer he cannot wrap his mind around that word.
but with all due respect TomLane, it's ok to believe in miracles, God will not let you down. Pray with faith for a miracle and see what happens. Faith as small as a mustard seed is all you need.
I would love to hear your testimony after it happens!
1 corinthians 12:4-11 4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
1 corinthians 12:28-31 28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.
i also am wonderin where the verse is that says the HOLY SPIRIT has stopped givin out gifts?
Your experience does not determine what is genuine; the Word of God determines what is genuine even if you say you saw someone healed on television or as an eye witness. You must first determine what the Word says about this subject and adjust your thinking accordingly. Do not adjust God's Word to the experience.
1In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. 3The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
5For to which of the angels did God ever say,
"You are my Son;
today I have become your Father[a]"[b]? Or again,
"I will be his Father,
and he will be my Son"[c]? 6And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says,
"Let all God's angels worship him."[d] 7In speaking of the angels he says,
"He makes his angels winds,
his servants flames of fire."[e] 8But about the Son he says,
"Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever,
and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.
9You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
by anointing you with the oil of joy."[f] 10He also says,
"In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
11They will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
12You will roll them up like a robe;
like a garment they will be changed.
But you remain the same,
and your years will never end."[g] 13To which of the angels did God ever say,
"Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet"[h]? 14Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation
Something I have learned is that there is nothing accidental, incidental or coincidental about the way God works in our lives. We are all given gifts. Some of us can sing or play instruments beautifully, other can paint or draw, some are amazing craftsmen. I think a good mechanic is not only a gifted person, but a person that is a gift to those he helps. These gifts are obvious when sports figures break records or actors win awards for outstanding performances.
Why would gifts of the spirit be any different? Did God not design your eyes to be blue or brown or green, etc? Did He not design your hair color, and your height? Did He not give you the talent to be able to do what ever it is that you do that I mentioned above? Sure maybe you needed a certain amount of education, study or practice, but I could have every advantage and my art will look like an elementary student's or my instrumental music performance will probably land me a polite invitation to never pick that thing up again cuz cat's being murdered would likely not sound worse. But God did give me many wonderful talents that I find easy. I can cut hair well , I can express myself easily and have an ability to find empathy for what others need. Are these not also spiritual gifts?
So why is it so different when someone has an ability to pray and someone is healed or to understand words that no one can define? To start with, THEY are not really gifted or talented, they just have an ability to connect with the Lord on a level that others might not have a current ability for. It is God that opens eyes, heals broken or sick bodies. It is Faith and Obedience that brings favor, for there are certain things you normally find in people with spiritual gifts. They give the Glory to the Lord, they give Thanks and Praise to the Lord, and they believe in four little words, "Thy Will Be Done!" These are people that cry out to the Lord for assistance, understanding, and they seek to be close to a Savior they Love.
I think that is the key to spiritual gifts. If you want to see a miracle, try being one for someone else. If anyone goes forward to do the Lord's work and help his Brother in Christ, the Lord will work through him. I believe that for I have seen it over and over and over.
I do not believe in coincidences. I believe God works in Wondrous Ways. Every day, every breath is a Gift, and if we could understand how precious, I think we would all use such gifts more wisely.
Just like the old saying goes~"I have an experience~you have an explanation" :applause:
I see no dispensationalism in these scriptures~~in fact how much more do we need the gifts today as evil abounds?
Mark 16: 17-18: And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
It is as much for today as the days gone by~there are healings going on in this world daily. How can you say they are not? I have seen it all~and there are people being raised from the dead in third world countries and sometimes here in the U.S.
A person that wakes up out of a coma after years is a miracle.
I saw my ex husband get healed of a severed tendon in his wrist years ago when my good friend from Panama prayed for him as he jokingly said "go ahead if you want to pray"~not only did he not believe it would happen~he was Jewish!~~It take someone having faith~not just the one being healed.
I have seen much more than that~my daughter had a demon come out of her in the middle of the night after someone as well as me~ prayed for her earlier in the week. The truth and light of Jesus drove it out. She sounded just like the exorcist with her voice changed like a man.
My oldest daughter chewed on a poisonous leaf when she was 2 years old and I grabbed her and declared the scripture that no poisn shall hurt her~she NEVER had a symptom of anything and I called poison control to make sure. They said her throat should have swelled up within seconds. Praise to Jesus.
Not for today you say? Peter preached on the day of Pentecost that they were here to stay and would be MORE manifest in the last days as Joel prophesied~
Acts 2:17 :And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:
21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call. 40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. 41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. 42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
As far as whether it is biblical or not no matter what you have experienced?~ Well Jesus broke the sabbath on this one and the man did not even know who HE was! All he knew is that he was healed!
9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.
.10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.
11 He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.
12 Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?
13 And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.
14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
15 The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.
.16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.
