THE TRUE GOSPEL=>Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved. When you have believed you have obeyed.

Please read the following excellent explanation of the Gospel by former Moody Memorial Church pastor, Harry A. Ironside (1876-1951)...

Harry A. Ironside“The Gospel is not a call to repentance, or to amendment of our ways, to make restitution for past sins, or to promise to do better in the future. These things are proper in their place, but they do not constitute the Gospel; for the Gospel is not good advice to be obeyed, it is good news to be believed. Do not make the mistake then of thinking that the Gospel is a call to duty or a call to reformation, a call to better your condition, to behave yourself in a more perfect way than you have been doing in the past …

Nor is the Gospel a demand that you give up the world, that you give up your sins, that you break off bad habits, and try to cultivate good ones. You may do all these things, and yet never believe the Gospel and consequently never be saved at all.”

Dom says: “Please read the following excellent explanation of the Gospel by former Moody Memorial Church pastor, Harry A. Ironside (1876-1951)...” end quote

Mr Ironside, who is a good Bible teacher, did not “explain the gospel” in the partial quote from him cited by Dom.

Mr Ironside rather attempted to refute false teachings regarding invalid approaches to accepting the gospel or receiving salvation on any other system other than pure grace and by faith. Ironside is right to conclude that God’s salvific grace and mercy are not based on human merit, effort or work

LittleDavid, you are correct that he didn't explain the Gospel in that quote, but you can go to the link for the full explanation.

You wrote: "Ironside is right to conclude that God’s salvific grace and mercy are not based on human merit, effort or work"

We can also add that it's not based on "repenting of your sins" either.

I agree with you Dom that wrong conceptions of repentance prevail within some churches. Like many other doctrines of the faith, repentance has come under corruption especially by some (not all) in the Free Grace movement.

I disagree that repentance isn’t related to salvation by grace. Remember, both John the Baptist and Jesus began preaching repentance as a means to and a necessary element of salvation. Even Ironside, who embraces true repentance, says the same. (I’ll quote him later when I find the quote, maybe in the following post)

QUOTE from: “Except Ye Repent” by H A Ironside

“ Our Lord's solemn words, "Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish," are as important today as when first uttered. No dispensational distinctions, important as these are in understanding and interpreting God's ways with man, can alter this truth.

No one was ever saved in any dispensation excepting by grace. Neither sacrificial observances, nor ritual service, nor works of law ever had any part in justifying the ungodly. Nor were any sinners ever saved by grace until they repented. Repentance is not opposed to grace; it is the recognition of the need of grace. "They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick." "I came not," said our blessed Lord, "to call the righteous but sinners to repentance." END QUOTE

An accurate understanding of true repentance cannot be overstated. Jesus bus very clear in Luke 13:3 “I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.” is a serious warning‼️‼️‼️

Ironside is right to make the proper distinction between false repentance and true repentance

Hope that helps clear things up

Anyone that knows the studies the Bible, should know Repentance doesn't stop with salvation.

Man continues to sin, and when you do confess/ repent.

You cannot be a Believer excepting only parts of scripture.

Quiznos refutes many things in the Bible too.

"Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish," In this verse Jesus was referring to perishing physically not eternally.

Sin is the transgression of the Law. If you try to repent of your sins to get saved, then you are trying to keep the Law and by the works of the Law no flesh will be saved.

Repenting of sins to get saved is trying to be a good person in order to be declared righteous. All our righteousness are as filthy rags.

The ONLY requirement for salvation is to believe in the death burial and resurrection of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins. If grace isn't free, then what you are saying is that you want to add your own righteousness to justify yourself and give lip service to the cross.

Salvation is a FREE gift to be received not achieved by repenting of sins. After salvation the Holy Spirit empowers us to live godly lives. Sin has consequences of chastening and ruining lives, but it is NOT a requirement for salvation.

Jesus declared "It is finished". He fulfilled all righteousness because we are unable to and imputed His righteousness on anyone who believes.

Repent (from not believing the Gospel) and believe the Gospel.

It's NOT "Repent (of your sins) and believe the Gospel."

Repenting is an humbling action! Confession of any sins.

Having a right Relationship with God.

It's not about Works to keep a person Saved.

The Bible teaches Repentance it's very Biblical.
