John 12

23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.

28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.

29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.

30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.

31>>>>>>> Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.<<<<<<<<

32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

33 This he said, signifying what death he should die.

34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?

35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth

1 Corinthians 15:24

Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power.

Jesus already came back and fullfilled prophecy and the law.

KJV,

Would you say that there is to be no more resurrection? Are you a full preterist? does that mean that time will continue as it is here on earth? Does that mean when we die, we are just dead? Is this really heaven? Doesn't that mean that this is all there is? Is this eternity for you/

Good questions which I will answer as I am to give an account of what I believe.

I once was onboard with the rapture theory since most churches seem to share the accepted consensus that Jesus will return shortly. I even did extensive research into the Jewish Holy feast days to pinpoint what season he would arrive although no one knew the day or hour, I prepared my family despite the eye rolls and laughter from my children, I wrote things down in a notebook about the Pope being the antichrist if I wasn't around so they could understand. Then one day , the Lord knowing that I am zealous for truth no matter how disheartening, brutal or edifying woke me up to there being a misunderstanding of the scriptures .

My Kingdom is not of this world .John 18:36....but I believe it is IN the world.

John 18:36

King James Version

36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

John 15

7 These things I command you, that ye love one another.

18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

1 John 2:15-17

King James Version

15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Revelation 21:2 {Please read all of Rev. 21}

“And I John saw the >>holy city,<< new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.”

Revelation 22

14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may ha

ve right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the >>city.<<

15 >>>>>For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.-<<<<<<<<<<

Revelation 21 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

What about being no more sea?...

Could it be that there will be believers caught up like fish out of the sea of the world?? Isn't the earth and sea part of corruption?

The Lion and lamb will lie together as Revelation proclaims. No more separation?

Is this the New Covenant? New Jerusalem?

Does this appear to be a city in the world but apart from it? I think it does.

Consider this verse on the tree of life since some think the tree to be literal.

Proverbs 3:18

5She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. 16Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. 17Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 18She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her. 19The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. 20By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew. 21My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:

First the natural, then the spiritual

1 Corinthians 15

42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:

43 It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:

44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.

47 The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven.

John 12:24

But Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24Truly, truly, I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a seed; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. 25Whoever loves his life will lose it, but whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.…

We are the salt of the earth....

Matt. 5 Verses 13 to 20

[13] Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. [14] Ye are the light of the world. I recently did some research on how salt was used in ancient times. Salt was acquired from the dead sea and it was used as both a fertilizer and a disinfectant. Fertilizer because it has potash which encourages things to grow and as a disinfectant because it inhibits bad bacteria from growing so you can see why we are called the salt of the earth but we have to be IN CONTACT with the dirt (world) for it to be active. I remember hugging a meth addict  here in Colorado that I had never met but who came up to me and my then husband trying to sell us a pendant for money. My husband called him out for being "on the stuff" to which the man admitted he was but last week...My husband, having a kind heart helped him out with money .  We asked if he was a believer in Jesus (only God knows) and I ended up giving him a hug and told him Jesus loves him. He kept staring at me and finally my husband said "Shannon, you talk to him, he is not listening to me" I think it frustrated my husband somewhat and he has allowed his demons to rule and sadly we are no longer together . The divorce paper is next to me as I write .I think that addict felt the presence of Jesus because I know it wasn't me.  I am nothing without Christ. I have had several people , even a security guard outside a nightclub stare at me when my husband was asking for directions . his head turned in my direction away from every one else. I encourage all of you to see everyone in need of a Savior , even those who are the undesirables of the world. The dirty,  the homeless,  the addicts, the ones with demonic infestations expressing mental disorders manifesting as schizophrenia , epilepsy and the like.

..Mark 5:6-13King James Version6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and >>>worshipped him<<<,7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.*

**Notice he still had free will to worship Jesus even with a legion of demons .

Matthew 17:14-20 ESV  ( this version for clarification)And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and, kneeling before him, said, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and he suffers terribly. For often he falls into the fire, and often into the water. And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not heal him.” And Jesus answered, “O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.” And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the boy was healed instantly. ...

There are many spirits and we are told to test them.

One of the main doorways to demons is fear. I say this because the media especially fearmongers the masses with negative news. But Jesus says :

2 Timothy 1:7

New King James Version

7 For God has not given us a >>spirit of fear,<<< but of power and of love and of a >>>>sound mind.<<<<

As for me I am like a tumbleweeds that I see rolling from place to place . Where will the salt of the earth go next.? That is up for God to decide but I appear to be headed back to my home town... to the beginning..

Yes, I believe we go to heaven when we die. The kingdom is here and we are a part of it right now to help those who are called but not there yet. If people just wait on a rapture , what do they do? get discouraged . Quit trying?

Joshua 1:9

Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." "I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation.

Bible Verses about the Second coming

New King James VersionNew Living Translation

Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.Matthew 24:44 You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.

And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.Hebrews 10:24-25 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!Revelation 22:20 He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!

Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.Matthew 24:42 So you, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know what day your Lord is coming.

And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.Revelation 22:12 Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds.

But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.1 Peter 4:7 The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers.

Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown.Revelation 3:11 I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take away your crown.

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”Revelation 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God. “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.”

And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”Acts 1:10-11 As they strained to see him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go!”

Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.Revelation 1:7 Look! He comes with the clouds of heaven. And everyone will see him— even those who pierced him. And all the nations of the world will mourn for him. Yes! Amen!

And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.1 John 2:28 And now, dear children, remain in fellowship with Christ so that when he returns, you will be full of courage and not shrink back from him in shame.

Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves.

But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.2 Peter 3:8 But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day.

Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.Philippians 1:6 And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.Ephesians 4:30 And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.

Therefore if they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert!’ do not go out; or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it. For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.Matthew 24:26-27 So if someone tells you, ‘Look, the Messiah is out in the desert,’ don’t bother to go and look. Or, ‘Look, he is hiding here,’ don’t believe it! For as the lightning flashes in the east and shines to the west, so it will be when the Son of Man comes.

Yes, Jesus came back when he said he would but it was in 70 A.D. at the destruction of Jerusalem when the temple was destroyed and the Lord's body is the new temple not made with hands.

Consider these verses:

Matthew 16:28

Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they >>>>see the Son of man coming<<<< in his kingdom

Old testament about coming in the clouds.

Exodus 12:12

For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.

Isaiah19:1

The burden of Egypt. Behold, the LORD rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it.

Matthew 33

33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:

35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon >>> this generation.<<<<

37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

Matthew 37:25

Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children

As you can see, beforeJesus was crucified ,the crowd said "His blood be on us and on our children"

He had already warned the pharissees about the coming destruction . He always gives warning and is slow to wrath. It was about a generation later that the temple was destroyed. But the generation did not pass before all was fulfilled.

Please consider these verses:

"For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."

Matthew 5:18, KJV

Are we under the law 2,000 plus years later??

"Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be >>>fulfilled."<<<<<

Matthew 24:34, KJV

What generation? The generation he was addressing.

"Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be >>> fulfilled?"<<<

Mark 13:4, KJV

"For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled . . . Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be >>>> fulfilled."<<<<

Luke 21:22, 32, KJV

"And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be >>>>fulfilled,<<<< >>>>>which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me."<<<<

Luke 24:44, KJV

He came back and made his enemies his footstool. Death was swallowed up in victory and the devil has no rule over the grave and is defeated when God condemned sin in the flesh on the cross! Amen!

Bible verses about the rapture and second coming of Christ

Bible Question:

What are all the Bible verses about the rapture and second coming of Christ?

Bible Answer:

There are thirty significant Bible verses about the rapture and the second coming of Christ. These passages are listed in this article, and a brief explanation of each passage is provided. The Bible teaches that the next major event in God’s plan for the future is the rapture of the church. The rapture is the removal of Christians from this earth. Then the tribulation will follow. At the end of the tribulation, the battle of Armageddon will occur and during that battle, the second coming of Christ will occur. After Christ victoriously defeats the armies of the world that seek to destroy Israel, Christ will establish His millennial kingdom. So, the passages we are focusing on are those Bible verses about the rapture and second coming of Christ.

Rapture and Second Coming of Christ

Bible Verses About the Rapture

The most significant and clearest passage about the rapture is found in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17. It states,

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (NASB)

Here we learn that Christ will descend from heaven with a shout. The shout will sound like a trumpet of God. The implication is that the sound will be very unique. When this occurs, the Christians who have already died will be resurrected first and then every living Christian will rise next and meet Christ in the air. This does not describe the second coming.

1 Corinthians 15:51-52 is another passage about the rapture.

Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 (NASB)

This passage refers to the same trumpet mentioned in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17. This trumpet announces the end of the church age. These two verses state that at the rapture the mortal bodies of Christians will become immortal. The rapture will occur in a twinkling of an eye. Various calculations indicate that is an incredibly small fraction of a second. Christians will not notice what has happened.

1 John 3:2 also describes this transformation. It is a promise that when Christ comes at the rapture, every believer will be instantly changed and become like Christ. It happens in a twinkling of an eye

We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. 1 John 3:2b (NASB)

John 14:1-3 is another important passage about the rapture. In verse 3, Jesus told the disciples,

If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. John 14:3 (NASB)

Here Jesus promised that He would come again and receive the disciples to Himself. Jesus referred to the rapture. At the second coming of Christ, He does not receive believers to Himself. Instead, He brings the saints in heaven back with Him to the earth.

Philippians 1:6 is a wonderful promise that promises that God the Father began sanctifying believers from the first day they had saving faith and will continue doing that until the day of Christ Jesus. That is, until the rapture occurs.

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6 (NASB)

In the New Testament the phrases “day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6; 2:16) “day of Christ” (Philippians 1:10), and “in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 1:8) all refer to the rapture.

Philippians 1:10 is another passage that refers to the rapture. It encourages believers to be sincere and blameless.

. . . to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ. Philippians 1:10 (NASB)

This refers to our practice.

1 Corinthians 1:8 also refers to the rapture. It reminds us that God will consider believers to be positionally blameless, that is without sin, when the rapture occurs.

Confirm you to the end, blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 1:8 (NASB)

Because believers are positionally blameless or holy, they will go to heaven at the rapture.

In the verses before Philippians 2:16, Paul commands the believers to “prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent,

Holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain. Philippians 2:16 (NASB)

In this passage Paul says that if they persevere in the faith, then Paul will know at the rapture that he “did not run in vain.”

In 1 Thessalonians 2:19, Paul declares that the believers in Thessalonica will be his hope or joy or crown of exultation at the rapture.

For who is our hope or joy or crown of exultation? Is it not even you, in the presence of our Lord Jesus at His coming? For you are our glory and joy. 1 Thessalonians 2:19 (NASB)

In 2 Thessalonians 2:1-2, Paul begins correcting false teaching about the rapture. Here is Paul’s opening statement.

Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 2 Thessalonians 2:1-2 (NASB)

Then Hebrews 10:37 the writer of the book promises that Christ is coming. This is another passage about the rapture.

FOR YET IN A VERY LITTLE WHILE,

HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME, AND WILL NOT DELAY.

Hebrews 10:37 (NASB)

Revelation 3:10 is the final significant passage about the rapture. In that passage, Jesus promises that He will keep the church from the seven-year tribulation,

Because you have kept the Word of My perseverance, I also will keep you from the hour of testing, that hour which is about to come upon the whole world to test those who dwell on the earth. Revelation 3:10 (NASB)

These passages are the prominent or significant passages about the rapture.

Bible Verses About the Second Coming of Christ

There are thirty significant passages in the Bible about the second coming of Christ. The most important one is given to us by Jesus Christ. It is Matthew 24:30-31. This is significant because Christ Himself gave this to the disciples.

“And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE SKY with power and great glory. And He will send forth His angels with A GREAT TRUMPET and THEY WILL GATHER TOGETHER His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.” Matthew 24:30-31 (NASB)

Here Jesus states that the Son of Man will appear in the sky. This verse and Luke 21:27 both teach us that when Jesus comes, He will be sitting on clouds.

In Acts 1:9-11 records a statement from the angels who spoke to the disciples at the time that Jesus ascended to heaven.

And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them. They also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.” Acts 1:9-11 (NASB)

The angels stated that just as Jesus ascended He will return. The disciples were able to watch Jesus ascend, and people will be able to see Jesus when He returns again.

This will be the first time anyone in modern history will see Him. When He does appear, the earth will mourn. The people on the earth will be extremely unhappy. Why? Because He will return during the battle of Armageddon when the nations of the world are trying to defeat and destroy the Jewish people and the city of Jerusalem. But it is important that when Jesus appears we are told that “all the tribes of the earth will mourn.” That is, everyone will see Him. This is very different from the rapture.

Jesus Will Sit on His Glorious Throne

Another statement about Christ at His second coming is found in Mathew 25:31. In this passage Jesus adds that He will be sitting on His glorious throne. Also, once again He states that all the angels will be with Him.

But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. Mathew 25:31 (NASB)

Mathew 26:64 also teaches us that Jesus will be sitting on a throne, but at the right hand of power. This verse is important because Jesus made this statement to the Sanhedrin Council in Jerusalem just before He was crucified. Jesus was condemned to death and crucified because He made this statement.

Jesus said to him, “You have said it yourself; nevertheless I tell you, 1hereafter you will see THE SON OF MAN SITTING AT THE RIGHT HAND OF POWER, and COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN.” Mathew 26:64 (NASB)

Second Coming Occurs at the Battle of Armageddon

Zechariah 12 describes events that will occur during the tribulation in Israel. It focuses on the conversion of the people in Israel. Zechariah 12:9-11 is a highlight of the chapter. Verse 10 indicates that at the time of the second coming of Christ, Israel will mourn when they see Christ, whom “they have pierced.” Verse 11 indicates that this occurs at the time of Armageddon.

And in that day I will set about to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn. In that day there will be great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the plain of Megiddo. Zechariah 12:9-11 (NASB)

Revelation 1:7 quotes Zechariah 12:10 and expands on the prophecy.

BEHOLD, HE IS COMING WITH THE CLOUDS, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. So it is to be. Amen. Revelation 1:7 (NASB)

Then Zechariah 14:1-8 describes military events that will occur at the time of the second coming of Christ. It focuses on events at the battle of Armageddon. It provides new details not given in Matthew 24:30-31. Notice that we are told “a day is coming for the LORD.” In verse 5 the “holy ones” come with Him. This occurs at the second coming and not at the rapture. Then in verses 7-8 the stars are affected.

Behold, a day is coming for the LORD when the spoil taken from you will be divided among you. For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city will be captured, the houses plundered, the women ravished and half of the city exiled, but the rest of the people will not be cut off from the city. Then the LORD will go forth and fight against those nations, as when He fights on a day of battle. In that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which is in front of Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be split in its middle from east to west by a very large valley, so that half of the mountain will move toward the north and the other half toward the south. You will flee by the valley of My mountains, for the valley of the mountains will reach to Azel; yes, you will flee just as you fled before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the LORD, my God, will come, and all the holy ones with Him! In that day there will be no light; the luminaries will dwindle. For it will be aa unique day which is known to the LORD, neither day nor night, but it will come about that at evening time there will be light. Zechariah 14:1-8 (NASB)

These passages help us understand that the second coming occurs during the battle of Armageddon at the end of the tribulation.

Millennial Kingdom Occurs after the Second Coming

After the battle of Armageddon, the millennial kingdom will occur. Luke 17:22 tells us that in a conversation with His disciples, Jesus told them that they will long to see His kingdom, but it will not occur in their lifetime.

And He said to the disciples, “The days will come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. Luke 17:22 (NASB)

So that He may establish your hearts without blame in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints. 1 Thessalonians 3:13 (NASB)

1 Thessalonians 3:13 describes the encouragement that awaits every believer that will occur at the second coming. Immediately after the second coming, believers will be allowed to enter the millennial kingdom. Non-believers will be sent to hell and await final judgment.

In Peter’s second sermon, Acts 3:19-21, Peter tells us that God the Father would send Jesus so that the “times of refreshing,” also called “the period of restoration,” would occur.

Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; and that He may send Jesus, the Christ appointed for you, whom heaven must receive until the period of restoration of all things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time. Acts 3:19-21

That is, the second coming must occur so that the millennial kingdom can be established.

Judgement At the Second Coming

Jude 14-15 describes more than the defeat of the nations at the battle of Armageddon. It primarily describes the results of the Sheep and Goat Judgment, also called the Judgment of the Nations. At that time believers will be sent into the millennial kingdom, and unbelievers will be sent to hell to await the Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:11).

Behold, the Lord came with many thousands of His holy ones, to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him. Jude 14b-15 (NASB)

This is a sad reality. It should motivate believers to share the gospel with every unbeliever.

Waiting For the Second Coming of Christ

There are a number of passages that speak of believers waiting for the Second Coming of Christ. Here are five passages:

Awaiting eagerly the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will also . . .. 1 Corinthians 1:7b (NASB)

For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians 3:20 (NASB)

and to await for His Son from heaven. 1 Thessalonians 1:10 (NASB)

looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus. Titus 2:13 (NASB)

so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him. Hebrews 9:28 (NASB)

Hebrews 9:28 is especially important since it specifically refers to Christ coming a second time, but not for the purpose of salvation, but to reign as king in the millennial kingdom.

Day of the Second Coming Is a Mystery

Several passages state that the day and time of the second coming of Christ is a mystery. Matthew 24:36-37 is a surprising verse because Jesus said that He does not know when He will return. Only God the Father knows the day and hour that He has chosen for Jesus to return.

But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. “For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. Matthew 24:36-37 (NASB)

Mark 13:32-33 records the same statement.

Matthew 24:42 also indicates that we will not know the day of His second coming, Here is another statement from Jesus.

Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. Matthew 24:42 (NASB)

Matthew 24:44 says that we will not know the day of His second coming, This time Jesus once again says that we must be ready because we do not know the hour He will return.

For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will. Matthew 24:44 (NASB)

Luke 12:40 is another passage that reveals the timing of the second coming of Christ is a mystery.

General Statements About the Second Coming

Two passages about the second coming of Christ urge believers to pursue holiness and know that that the proof of our faith will result in the believer’s praise, glory, and honor when Christ appears.

. . . without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NASB)

so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than old which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ . . . 1 Peter 1:7 (NASB)

Three more passages also affirm that Christ will return when they indicate that believers will love and look forward to His second coming. These verses encourage us to not be discouraged but to be patient and confident that He is coming.

. . . but also to all who have loved His appearing. 2 Timothy 4:8 (NASB)

You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near. James 5:8 (NASB)

looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God . . . 2 Peter 3:12a (NASB)

In 2 Corinthians 1:14, Paul affirms his friendship with the believers in Corinth when he says,

. . . we are your reason to be proud as you also are ours, in the day of our Lord Jesus. 2 Corinthians 1:14 (NASB)

He declared that when Christ appears, he would be proud of them, as they are of himself.

2 Timothy 4.1 -2 refers to Christ as the one who will judge the living and the dead at His second coming of Christ which is followed by the millennial kingdom.

I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom; preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. 2 Timothy 4:1-2 (NASB)

1 Timothy 6:14 refers back to verses 12-13. There Paul commands believers to fight the good fight. In this verse, Paul commands believers to keep that commandment until the second coming of Christ.

that you keep the commandment without stain or reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Timothy 6:14 (NASB)

Jesus Promises He Is Coming

The final two passages are promises made by Christ Himself.

We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. 1 John 3:2 (NASB)

He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming quickly.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. Revelation 22:20 (NASB)

Jesus promises that He is coming! However, the Greek word for “quickly” does not mean that He is coming shortly, time wise, but that when He comes, He comes very fast.
