Should we remove scripture we don’t like??

I have a friend who says she wants to read only “positive” Bible verses and black out all the “negative” ones.

She says Jesus was a really sweet, nice and a mushy love sorta guy who never offended anybody or said anything mean.

He was just so full of “luuuuuve”.

He would never talk about sin or hell or nothing like that.

All that stuff might upset somebody.

After all, he wants everybody to just feel good, come around and believe on him so why would he wanna make em mad?

Well, I guess, if you don’t like the Jesus of the Bible, you can always create your own little “jesus”.

Big trouble with a fake “jesus”, he and his followers deeply offend the real One.

I think a lot people don’t really know what true love is.

“For God so >>loved<< the world...”.

The Bible is clear about God’s love. The Bible is clear about the love that Jesus has for all his followers. He yearns for them deeply. The Bible is clear about all that.

Trouble is, a lot of people don’t like Jesus when he acts like the God who is in charge of them just there are a lot of little children who don’t like their parents when the parents take charge.

God is God Almighty. And we aren’t

anyone who wishes to omit certain bible passages must think they're a surgeon too? given the chance they would put Jesus on the operating table, cut out his sovereignty, his grace and his heart ? Jesus spoke more about hell than he did heaven why? Because out of love and respect for us he doesn't want us to continue on the wide road to eternal destruction destruction ......... No we should never " operate " on Jesus Christ rather it's the great physician who operates on us ; what a great day it was for me when he performed open heart surgery and I got the free gift of Grace and eternal life praise his holy name hallelujah we are healed and saved

Sounds like you friend hasn't read all the Bible.

Jesus does have a love for all Mankind.

He spoke truth always! Oftentimes the truth hurts.

Scripture comes to correct us as Believers. We are also encouraged by the Word of God .

Aye agree with both of ya.

I think my lady friend isn’t the only one who wants to blacken out “unpleasant” scripture.

We see the same thing going on in forums and in churches everywhere.

For example, some people would never suggest we whiteout, cross out or black out any scripture. Instead they just ignore the parts they don’t like. Or they “reinterpret” what they don’t like to make it fit with what they do like. Or they simply “explain anyway” what they don’t like. All kinds of excuses and ways for dealing with scripture that doesn’t fit the self-made grid.

Well that's right it's not so much as white out certain scriptures but rather twist them and that's how the cults got started

I think the next big question is: how do you know if I’m getting hustled by another Bible Barber trimming off a little more of God’s word?

I always go back to the basics.

1.) What did God’s word mean WHEN it was written?

2.) What did the Holy Spirit’s inspired words mean WHEN they were written?

3.) Understanding the grammar and language chosen by the Holy Spirit AT THE TIME written. Doesn’t mean I have to be an expert or speak the original languages—because—there are soooooo many critical works and textual aids available that the modern student really has no cover or excuse for ignorance!!

SOOOOO many helps and aids that where unavailable at nearly any other time in the history of the Bible—-except of course, when Jesus, the apostles or the prophets or an ancient competent pastor/teacher/elder.

Exactly, I agree heavenRSVP.

If you had unbelievers who had full access to Jesus but were deeply engulfed in unbelief, sin and rebellion and they STILL refused to listen EVEN when Jesus was here doing miracles and fulfilling prophecy, it’s a safe bet they’re still around with the same attitudes!!

AIN’T NUTIN’ GONNA CHANGE ‘EM or GET THOUGH
