Posting a single verse of Scripture is not good exegesis, anyone is able to do that. The context reveals Who the Scripture is about or who it is written to. What, are the circumstances that facilitate this Scripture to have been written. When was this Scripture written, what time of year, or what events were present. Where did this take place, eg. a wedding, funeral, a meal. How,was the message delivered, spoken, or written. Why was this written,was it to correct someone, maybe to encourage others. The context reveals how to understand the Scripture. Is the text a parable, allegory, a simile, prophesy, is the text to be taken literally, a figure of speech, or colloquialism. Moin, do you see the importance of posting the entire context. Post Reply

His name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify about the Light, so that through him everyone might believe. 8 He himself was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light. 9 The true Light who gives light to every man was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of blood, nor of the desire or will of man, but born of God. Christians who love God study the Bible and usually can go to a Scripture and read fir themselves. Many have Good Pastor/Teachers and also go to church. They can understand one scripture without a page of adding on. Post Reply

The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. Next ask the person what that means. What if Messiah had said this to you,The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it; would you know what He meant, NO, not without the context. Without the context, How would a person understand what the LORD commanded Joseph. Acts 1 verse 9 9 After He had said this, they watched as He was taken up, and a cloud hid Him from their sight. Who said what, and what did this person say. Romans 1 verse 5 5 Through Him and on behalf of His name, we received grace and apostleship to call all those among the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith. His name, Who is this His, and what is His name.. Post Reply
