Think of how we want the words we speak to be interpreted correctly by those listening.
Obviously we want others to understand what we intend to say
But what if you say the following: “the dog is black”. But someone listening accuses you of saying, “the horse is blue”.
You would be right to protest. No doubt you would deny saying anything about a blue horse and repeat your original statement, “the dog is black”.
But what if the other person then says to you, “I know what you said, but to me a dog is a horse and black is the same as blue!”
Clearly the person who insists a dog is the same as a horse and blue is black has violated standard usage and has created his own series of definitions and meanings.
The above anology pretty much explains why people misinterpret the Bible and the verse you cited.
However, we would do well if we keep our interpretion of the Bible in the context of its historical meaning (what the words of the original language meant when written).
Sadly, too many people interpret the Bible without reference to its original languages, their meanings, their place in history and their grammar

After that we ran over to definitions and finally over to historical context. But at the end of our journey there was still no answer. We had run around in a big circle as if just the act of running around and around would be an adequate substitute for an answer.

Jesus is called **GOD** 7 times in God's Word and is called **LORD** over 200 times in the New Testament, and is **WORSHIPED** 12 times in the New Testament, and God's Word tells us to only **WORSHIP GOD** in Revelation 22:8,9 below!! While the holy spirit is never called **GOD** or **LORD** in God's Word and is **NEVER WORSHIPED** in God's Word!!
Titus 2:13,14: **WE** wait for the **BLESSED HOPE**--the glorious appearing of **OUR GREAT GOD** and **SAVIOR**, Jesus Christ who gave Himself for us to **REDEEM US** from all wickedness and to purify for Himself a people that are **HIS VERY OWN**, eager to do what is good!
John 10:27-30: Jesus says, "My sheep listen to My voice, I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, no one can snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me is **GREATER THAN ALL**;
John 6:37,39,44,65: Jesus says, "**ALL** that the Father gives Me **WILL** come to Me, and whoever comes to Me I will **NEVER** drive away... And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that I shall **LOSE NONE** of all that He has given Me, but raise them up at the Last Day.... No one can come to Me **UNLESS** the Father who sent Me **DRAWS HIM**, and I will raise him up at the Last Day!!... No one can come to Me **UNLESS** the Father has **ENABLED THEM**!!"
John 17:17: Jesus says to His Father, "Sanctify them by the truth **YOUR WORD** is Truth!!"
Deuteronomy 18:17-20: The Lord said to Moses, "I will raise up for them a Prophet from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put My words in His mouth. He will tell them everything I command Him. I Myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to My words that the Prophet speaks in My Name!"
John 14:23-24: Jesus says, "Anyone who loves Me will obey My teaching. My Father will love them, and **WE** will come to them and make **OUR HOME** with them. Anyone who does not love Me will not obey My teaching. These words you hear are not My own; they belong to the Father who sent Me!"
Matthew 28:16-20:: Jesus says, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to **ME**. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations... teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age!"
Jesus is the **HEAD** of God's Kingdom in the NT era until His 2nd Coming and **THEN** He will hand over His Kingdom to God the Father!
I Corinthians 15:23-24: For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in turn: Christ, the Firstfruits, then, when He comes, those who belong to Him. **THEN** He will hand over the Kingdom to God the Father!
There are 7 passages in the New Testament which state that we should **ONLY PRAY TO GOD THE FATHER**!! Such as:
Matthew 6:6-10: Jesus says, "When you pray, go into your room, close the door and **PRAY TO YOUR FATHER**, who is unseen. Then **YOUR FATHER**, who sees what is done in secret will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them for your **FATHER KNOWS** what you need before you ask Him! This then, is how you should pray: 'Our **FATHER** in heaven hallowed be your name, **YOUR {**ETERNAL**}KINGDOM** come, **YOUR WILL** be done, on earth as it is in heaven!'" Luke 11:4: adds; "**FORGIVE US OUR SINS**, for we forgive everyone who sins against us!"
Revelation 1:1: The Revelation from Jesus Christ, which **GOD GAVE HIM**!
John 20:17: Jesus says, "I am ascending to **MY FATHER** and your Father, to **MY GOD** and your God!"

The **SON** is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word... God says, "Let all God's angels **WORSHIP HIM**!!" and about **HIS SON GOD** says, **YOUR THRONE**, **O GOD** will last for ever and ever!!" {The **THRONE** of Jesus will last **FOR EVER AND EVER** in the **ETERNAL NEW JERUSALEM**!!
Revelation 3:21,22: Jesus says, "To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with Me on **MY THRONE**, just as I overcame and sat down with **MY FATHER ON HIS THRONE**!! These are the **ONLY 2 THRONES** in the eternal New Jerusalem as per Revelation 22:3 below!!! The holy spirit who many say are CO-EQUAL** with **GOD OUR FATHER** and our **LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST** does not have a **THRONE** in our **ETERNAL HOME IN THE NEW JERUSALEM**!!

Revelation 22:3: The **THRONE OF GOD** and of the **LAMB**will be in the City! {In our **ETERNAL** Home in the New Jerusalem}
Revelation 21:22-23: I did not see a temple in the City, because the **LORD GOD ALMIGHTY** and the **LAMB** are its temple. The City does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of **GOD** gives it light and the **LAMB** is its Lamp!!
It is interesting to note that the holy spirit is not even mentioned once in the description of our eternal home in the ^^ETERNAL NEW JERUSALEM** in Revelation 21:1-27 and Revelation 22::1-5, and that there will be only **2 THRONES** for **GOD THE FATHER** and our **LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST** who is called the **LAMB** in the **ETERNAL** New Jerusalem!!
Matthew 23:9,1o: Jesus Christ says, "Do not call anyone on earth **FATHER**, for you have **ONE FATHER**, and He is in heaven! Nor are you to be called **TEACHER**, for you have **ONE TEACHER**, the **CHRIST**!

God the Father told Jesus what to say in the 4 Gospels while Jesus told the holy spirit what to inspire the writers to write in the other books in the New Covenant!
John 1:18: No one has ever seen God, **BUT THE ONE AND ONLY SON**!! who is **HIMSELF GOD** and in closest relationship with the Father, has made Him known!!

In a loud voice they were saying: "Worthy is the **LAMB**, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!" Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and under the earth and on the sea and all that is in them, saying: "**TO HIM** who sits on the throne and to the **LAMB** be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!" The 4 living creatures said, "Amen," and the elders fell down and **WORSHIPED**! {Why was not the holy spirit who many say is **CO-EQUAL** worshiped here along with the Father and Jesus??}
There are 3 **DIFFERENT SPIRITS** in the New Teatament: the **SPIRIT OF THE FATHER** and the **SPIRIT OF CHRIST** and the holy spirit!! The text usually makes clear which Spirit is being mentioned:
Romans 8:9: “However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the **SPIRIT OF CHRIST**, he does not belong to Him.”
Galatians 4:6: Because you are sons, God has sent forth the **SPIRIT OF HIS SON** into our hearts, crying, “Abba!**FATHER**!
In God's Word we must distinguish between the **SPIRIT OF THE FATHER**, the **SPIRIT OF CHRIST** and the holy spirit!!!
John 4:23,24: Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will **WORSHIP THE FATHER** *IN THE SPIRIT** and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the **FATHER** seeks. **GOD IS SPIRIT**, and **HIS {The Father's}WORSHIPERS** must worship the Spirit and in truth!

And if the **SPIRIT OF HIM** {THE FATHER} who raised Jesus from the dead is **LIVING IN YOU**{The Father}will also give life to your mortal bodies because of **HIS {The FATHER'S} SPIRIT** who lives in you!
}John 14::19,20,23: Jesus says, "Before long the world will not see me any more but you will see Me. Because I live you will also live. On that day you will realize that I am in My Father, and **YOU ARE IN ME**, and **I AM IN YOU**!!... Anyone who loves Me will obey My teaching. My Father will love them, and **WE** will come to them and **MAKE OUR HOME WITH THEM!!" {THEIR SPIRITS!!}
Ephesians 3:17-19: I pray that **CHRIST MAY DWELL IN YOUR HEARTS** through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all of God's people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the **LOVE OF CHRIST**, and to know this love which surpasses knowledge--that you may filled to the measure of all the fullness of God!
Revelation 3:19,20: Jesus says, "Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. so be earnest and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door , **I WILL COME IN**!"{CHRIST'S SPIRIT}
Galatians 4:6: Because you are His sons, God sent the **SPIRIT OF HIS SON** INTO OUR HEARTS**, the Spirit who calls out "Abba, **FATHER**"!!
So we can safely conclude that God's Word clearly teaches that the holy spirit is not **CO-EQUAL** with **GOD THE FATHER** and our **LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST** which is claimed by the Roman Catholics and many other **STATEMENTS OF FAITH**!!
The mere fact you find yourself unable to give a coherent intelligent answer should give you pause - a reality check, that is if you are willing to be honest with yourself.

They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid foundation on rock. When the flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears **MY WORDS** and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete!"
I Peter 1:23-25: You have been **BORN AGAIN THROUGH THE LIVING AND ENDURING **WORD OF GOD**!! All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field, the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the **WORD OF THE LORD STANDS FOREVER**. And this is the **WORD** that was preached to you.
Matthew 24:35: Jesus says, Heaven and earth will pass away, but **MY WORDS WILL NEVER PASS AWAY**!"
I John 2:3-5: We know we have come to know Him {Jesus} if we obey His commands. The man who says, "I know Him," but does not do what He commands is a liar and the truth is not in him. But if anyone **OBEYS HIS WORD**, God's love is truly made complete in him!
Matthew 4:4: Jesus says, "Man does not live on bread alone, but on **EVERY WORD FROM THE MOUTH OF GOD**!"
Luke 8:15: Jesus says, "But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the **WORD**, retain it, and by perseverance produce a crop."

I appreciate the accolades for great accomplishments but I actually did not create human language and it wasn’t me who thought up the rules of grammar and the proper implementation of interpretation
God deserves the full credit for that. God created all language and he made it possible to properly interpret each of them!! That’s called hermeneutics!!! Waaaalaaaa!! As for me, I just happen to agree with God
