Posted : 8 Jul, 2014 10:42 AM Hello folks, I'm wondering if a Christian commits suicide, are they still saved or did they die in sin at that instant? Do you think God would pardon such a sinful act? For the Bible says, "If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple." ~1 Corinthians 3:17. I would love to know your thoughts on this, please back your opinions with Biblical scriptures. Thank you Post Reply

Posted : 8 Jul, 2014 01:16 PM Ironically my sister the scripture you used as reference(1 Corinthians 3:17), not only applied to the believer as God's own....His temple, but also to those who God entrusted to build His physical church and be the shepherd to the His flock! While possibly there being other recordings in God's Word of apparent suicides, I'm going to mention the suicide of Judas Iscariot here because of it's familiarity. Matthew 27: 3-5: 3: Then Judas , which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders. 4: Saying , I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. 5: And he cast down the pieces of sliver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. Now even though Judas "repented", becoming aware of his gross sin, trying to return the silver to the elders, obviously his guilt and shame, coupled with giving satan place, drove him to commit suicide. The question is......was his repenting truly sincere to guarantee forgiveness from God, if he hadn't committed suicide? What I'm trying to say is that every situation regarding a suicide will have specific circumstances and issues linked to it that will make it a unique event that ultimately ONLY God our Father will be the judge and jury of!! Where our hearts are the moment we draw our last breath, will be our choice....our decision as to where we'll end up!!! What really ONLY matters is being in right standing with God at that crucial moment!! Again the choice is still up to us!!! I hope this helps child of God! Be blessed. Post Reply

Many a person both unlearned believers and non believers refer to this scripture out of context. The temple is our HEART and not our bodies. There is only one forgivable sin and suicide isnt it! I will do a study on the greek concerning 1 corinthians 3:16 and post it on the forum. Ive actually been studying that scripture already this last few days!!! Isnt God awesome?! Study like a berean! I was speaking on the scripture and mainly how people refer to that scripture when talking about the flesh habits. I should have clearly clarified more. I hope I didnt offend. Posted : 8 Jul, 2014 06:09 PM Thank you for your responses, and yes 1 Corinthians 3:17 (just figured is out of context...) is indeed the church where Paul informs us that God dwells in the church and values it like no other entity. Well, i should have probably put 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NIV) " Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies." I wanted to know whether suicide is unpardonable by God coz it's sounds like murder so to speak. Deuteronomy 5:17 & Exodus 20:13 says "You shall not murder" I agree with what you said Hisjoymypeace regarding God being the only final judge in a such a critical situation. I mean who knows maybe this person probably repented of their sin before he/she breathed their last. I'd like to add that how God judges those who despair of life and take matters into their own hands, I will leave to Him alone. I also think it is possible to conceive of a suicide that is not sin, for instance a mental case who takes his own life is comprehensible unlike someone who is mentally well. God bless you! In cases of mental illness or extenuating circumstances, God will be fair. For the other cases, a person is knowingly rejecting God's commands to respect life and to stick around as long as possible to share the gospel. Paul understood this and mentioned that he would very much like to die and go be with God, but because he truly loved other people, he wanted to stay for their sake. I don't think suicide is automatically an unpardonable sin, but it's definitely not to be taken lightly. Phil. 1 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. 23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: 24 Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you. 25 And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith; 26 That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again. :peace::peace: Post Reply
