1 Timothy 2:11,12 A woman must quietly recieve instruction with entire submissiveness. But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.

Hi Ryan,

May I ask your motivation for posting this? Is there a question or comment? I'm confused.

Browneyedgirlky, I was on another site where they have chatrooms, but no forums, and someone mentioned that a guys mother was a pastor, so I said the bible says women shouldn't be pastors, but I didn't think of where the verse was.But later on as I was doing some bible reading I came across it, and it has really been on my heart since then.So I posted it here because they have no forums at the other site.

The reason I ask is because I read a similar scripture in 1 Corinthians recently, and it really got me thinking. Hmm, should I even sing at church? I don't have a husband, so who am I supposed to ask my Biblical questions to? And others such as that. We'll see what others have to say.

browneyedgirlky I think you know that singing isn't included in that.

It says to remain quiet. We just know that's what it says, and if you take it word for word.....it's just got me thinkin.

browneyedgirlky I think it means to keep silent during the sermon, but praise and worship is for everyone.I personally think everyone "males too" should keep quiet during a sermon.Do we know what church services consisted of back in the days of the early church?

Nope, not exactly. We don't know if the women sang or not. But it specifically says for women to remain silent. I'm not saying that you're wrong; I'm just saying if we take it word for word and don't add our opinions, that's what it says. I don't feel convicted when I sing at church, I know that. Like I said, it's just got me thinking.

the reason paul wrote to the corinthians about women keeping silient is becuase women were not as educated as the men were, so to keep order in the church paul tells the women to just keep silent in the church so they wouldnt have to stop the service to explain everything to the women.

instead he says to just ask your husband when you get home. but im pretty sure if you dont have a husband it wouldnt be a sin to ask the pastor or another male in the church. as far as women pastors it does not say women cant be pastors but it does say they can teach. there were women in the bible who prophocied in the bible and did other grate things, but i think that women shouldnt be pastors because if the man is head of the house hold then it would be kinda weird for a man to cling to a woman at church and then come home and be the leader of the house. so i beleive women can preach and teach, talk if their educated and most women today are, so thats not an issue. thats just my input on the subject. god bless

ryanb, that verse applies within marriage, or within the church walls to younger unwed women that the older married women are not giving sound counsel to.

Can God use a woman to preach? Yes indeed! There are many men out there who are blessed by Joyce Meyers, and the God I serve is one of perfect designing and planning. Do you remember Jesus saying that in the final days "sons and daughters will prophecize"?

Some of those female prophets can more than likely walk into any church and offer more sound counsel in a sermon to those with ears to hear, than the repetition people will fall asleep to every week in standing in the pulpit.

God doesn't call the equipped, He equips who He calls, and He calls some women to ministry. I truly believe in older times that it was in the best interest that women didn't teach for many reasons, but the God I serve is one of mercy, understanding, and grace.

Praying this day finds you blessed by the Best! amen!!
