Most prophets in every generation, & in every age have been false prophets...& Probably more coming in our generation than ever!
The Simple test of a prophet is that if his words dont line up with The WORD, then he is a false prophet...
The most common answer you will probably get is that if any prophet speaks a word which is not true then he is a false prophet..
But that argument would need some qualifications because almost every Biblcal Prophet Still Has Words Left to Be Fulfilled. and not every word of a prophet is spoken as a prophecy..so we have to clarify that if a Prophet Speaks in the Name of YHWH & his words fail..then he is not a "True Prophet"...
But then there are even exceptions to that..Such as Jonah, who really knew that his words would fail, but he had to Speak Them anyway.
Of course the ultimate Test of a True Prophet is when he comes against false prophets:boxing:like rlijahs battle with the 450 prophets of baal on Mt. Carmel:dancingp:...
Or Like moses against the punk prophets & magicians of pharoah:bouncy:
But The Very Best is Still to Come witht the battle of the 2 Witnesses against the two endtime beasts...
OK, They Do Ultimately Lose...But Thats When YAHSHUA Returns to Set The World Straight:peace::yay:
Yes I agree with you and the best is yet to come :applause:
Would you say Benny Hinn is a false prophet of today? I've looked up some of the things he prophecied and the conclusion one has to draw is that the man is not a minister of God. Check out these links:
Thank You for the links on Benny Hinn, Phillip...They were so very enlightening. I have heard of this Benny Hinn guy for many years...to such an extent that I actually watched him on (TBN?)TV once, a couple years ago, just to see who he was. He seemed pretty much like any other money mongering TV evangelist preaching their typical gospel of peace, prosperity, & patriotism with a lot of hollywood type of hype & emotionalism.
It is so very distressing to me that the false church can be so easily lead astray by the false gospel hype of these false preachers & teachers who apparently call themselves prophets...It will be interesting to see how many more here come to the defense of this guy...Because I always had the impression that he was very welll liked..but I see from the U tube videos that many are speaking against him now huh?
If so many can be so easily deceived by this guy...just think how quickly & easily they will accept the anti-christ when he begins to perform real signs & wonders!?!?!
Very Good Question on A Very Timely Subject Phillip..
Jonah's words didn't fail, he preached repentance to the city of Ninevah and the people repented.Jonahs problem was that he was so mad at God because He didn't judge them.
Actually Ryan, Jonahs Mission was to "Cry Against" the city of Ninevah...Not to "Call it to Repentance"...At least no where that I can see. That mission is stated again in
Jonah 3..And I think His only recorded words were:
YET 40 DAYS AND NINEVAH SHALL BE OVERTHROWN.
Jonah 3:1 And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,
Jonah 3:2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.
Jonah 3:3 So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey.
Jonah 3:4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
And I think Jonah was mostly mad because he felt his life was ruined just to save abunch of heathens that were trying to destroy his country...and He says there in Jonah 4 that He knew YHWH would show mercy on them in the end..At His Expense..but then YHWH reminded Him of how many people had been saved because they Repented On Their Own(rather than die)
Jonah 4:1 But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.
Jonah 4:2 And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.
Jonah 4:3 Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.
So As Far As Can See, Jonahs Words To Ninevah...Yet 40 Days & Ninevah SHALL BE OVERTHROWN....Failed.....
Unless of Course We Can Say that they were Overthrown By the Spirit:peace:
Either Way Jonah Was Not Really A False Prophet...:bunny:
Just A Prophet Being A Puppet...:bow:With Strings Attached
So who Knows...Maybe YHWHS got A Plan For Benny Too:bouncy:
But the Moral is Dont Believe Everything them Preachers Tell You Ryan...and Watch Out for false prophets Too, of course.
Trust me wen I say that I don't give any heed to 90% of the televangilists, but TBN does still have a couple of guys I will watch like Charles Stanley...He is solid, and I catch the Hal Lindsey report every now and then and it makes me think.
Yes Ryan, I actually just now went to the "Go to Church or Not" thread for the 1st time...and after reading that I posted an apology for that false assumption that I made here..."That you listened to preachers too much"..I am sorry for assuming that..So Please Do Forgive Me for that false assumption.
I was rather pleasantly surprised a while back when I saw Hal Lindsay on TV Too...From the little of his sermon that I caught it sounded like he was shifting his opinion from the E.U. as the "10 Toes" to the "Moslem Confederations" as the fulfillers of that prophecy. Is that in line with what you are hearingt from Him these days?? I suppose He is still preaching a pre-trib secret rapture though huh?
Here's a Word from the Lord that might help everyone understand and know more about what God has to say about false prophets or a better term would be, "false profits" (LOL), who lie in the name of the Lord. There are many warning in the Old and New Testament about false prophets and fales teachers, but I will only give these.
Deuteronomy chapters 12-18, is good reading. I will not write all the scriptures but just enough to give some insight...
Detuteronomy chapter 13.
If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams (this also includes prophetess), and he/she gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he/she spoke to you, saying, 'Let's us go after other gods (this is anything that is displeasing and does not line up with God's Word), which you have not known, and let us serve them,' you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey HIS VOICE, and you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him....
Chapter 18.
The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brothers, Him you shall hear, according to all you desired of the Lord your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I died. And the Lord said to me: What they have spoken is good. I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brothers, and will put MY WORDS in His mouth, and He(Jesus) shall speak to them all that I command Him. And it shall be that whoever will not hear My Words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.
But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in MY name, which I have not commanded him/her to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die (that's emotionall, spiritually, and in this case God is speaking about phycially).
And if you say in your heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?... "When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, IF THE THING DOES NOT HAPPEN OR COME TO PASS, that is the thing which the Lord has NOT SPOKEN, the prophet has spoken it presumptuously, you shal not be afraid if him.
Jereimiah chapters 23-28.
Chapter 23.
I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy lies in MY name, saying I have dreamed, I have dreamed! How long will this be in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies? Indeed they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart, who try to make MY people forget My name by their dreams which everyone tells hus neighbor, as their fathers for got MY name fro Baal.
The prophet who has a dream, let hin tell a dream. And he who has MY WORD, let him speak MY WORD faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? says the Lord.
(This is how you know when a word from the Lord has been spoken to you from someone or a prophet)
(1) Is not My WORD like fire? the word of God burns on the inside of our hearts like a fire, and our spirit witnesses to what has been spoken.
(2) Is not My WORD like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces? (The word of God spspoken to us, breaks the yoke of bondage, breaks our spirit, and bring us to repentance or to make a change and obey whatever the call). Gos continues to speak, Therefore look, I am against the prophets, says the Lord, who steal MY WORDS everyone from his nieghbor. I am against the prophet, says the Lord, who use their tongues and say, I said. Look, I am against those who prophesy false prophesy, false dreams, says the Lord, and tell them, and cause MY people to err by their lies and by their recklessness. Yet I did not send them or command them, therefore they shall not profit this people at all, says the Lord.
Peter speaks out against and warns us about false prophets and teachers.
2 Peter chapters 1-3
Chapters 1.
We also have the prophetic word made more sure, whcih you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning start rises in your hearts, knowing this first, that no prophesy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were MOVED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT.
Cahpter 2. But there were also false pophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will scretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, becasue of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed....and Peter goes on speaking about the false prophets and teachers.
I John chapter 4 also speaks about the false prophets and those who were with the disciples, but left the group and went out speaking their own gospel, of whom John called them as having the spirit of the anit-christ preaching a false doctrine, because had they really been of Christ, they would not have left the group. So does Jude speak about the false prophets and false teachers...
Long... but hopefuly, it will answer some questions...:glow:
Hey all, didn't get a chance to read all the other posts but here is a reply to add:
There is foretelling and forthtelling. One is more like scrying and doesn't involve God or the Holy Spirit.. Nostradamus, psychics, horoscopes, soothsayers, the end of the world in 2012, etc.
Forthtelling.. and it should even be better defined than this because it negates time completely and renders the past as present if needed.. things that are to come.
There is a man-made parameter/protocol that if a prophet is true, each and every prophecy uttered will come true.. if they do not, that person is a false prophet. If there is any scripture to back this up as a biblical test, please.. someone post it.. my scouring could not find a thing.
What I've discovered is that if someone tells another that they are a prophet, it's actually pointing to them rather than Jesus. False prophets have one similar feature: pointing to themself, self elevation, or directing you anywhere and everywhere but Jesus. For whatever problem you have in life, anything at all, Jesus is the right answer 100% of the time.
It may not be an answer everyone likes or agrees with, but this is where we can share and discuss ideas. Have a great day and God bless!
