Question: "What is the sinner's prayer?" from gotquestions.com

Answer: The sinner's prayer is a prayer a person prays to God when they understand that they are a sinner and in need of a Savior. Saying a sinner's prayer will not accomplish anything on its own. A true sinner's prayer only represents what a person knows, understands, and believes about their sinfulness and need for salvation.

The first aspect of a sinner's prayer is understanding that we are all sinners. Romans 3:10 proclaims, "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one." The Bible makes it clear that we have all sinned. We are all sinners in need of mercy and forgiveness from God (Titus 3:5-7). Because of our sin, we deserve eternal punishment (Matthew 25:46). The sinner's prayer is a plea for grace instead of judgment. It is a request for mercy instead of wrath.

The second aspect of a sinner's prayer is knowing what God has done to remedy our lost and sinful condition. God took on flesh and became a human being in the Person of Jesus Christ (John 1:1,14). Jesus taught us the truth about God and lived a perfectly righteous and sinless life (John 8:46; 2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus then died on the cross in our place, taking the punishment that we deserve (Romans 5:8). Jesus rose from the dead to prove His victory over sin, death, and hell (Colossians 2:15; 1 Corinthians chapter 15). Because of all of this, we can have our sins forgiven and be promised an eternal home in Heaven - if we will just place our faith in Jesus Christ. All we have to do is believe that He died in our place and rose from the dead (Romans 10:9-10). We can be saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone. Ephesians 2:8 declares, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God."

Saying the sinner's prayer is simply a way of declaring to God that you are relying on Jesus Christ as your Savior. There are no "magical" words that result in salvation. It is only faith in Jesus' death and resurrection that can save us. If you understand that you are a sinner and in need of salvation through Jesus Christ, here is a sinner's prayer you can pray to God: "God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen!"

The sinners prayer is a way for Confessing your faith to believe in the Lord Jesus Chirst with your mouth." For if you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus Christ, and will believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved. Romans chapter 10.

And Jesus spoke this parable to those who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus spoke this parable: Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: God, I thank you that I am not like other peoplerobbers, evildoers, adulterersor even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.

But the tax collector(sinner) stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat on his breast and said, God, have mercy on me, for I am a sinner.

Then Jesus said, I tell you that this man (the sinner), rather than the other man (the self-righteous Pharisee), went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Luke chapter 18

The Sinner's Prayer>" God, have mercy on me, for I am a sinner."

ET says:

The sinners prayer is a way for Confessing your faith to believe in the Lord Jesus Chirst with your mouth." For if you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus Christ, and will believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved. Romans chapter 10.

Mr.Bill:

Romans has been written by the Holy Spirit through the Apostle Paul to the BELIEVERS in YESHUA at Rome.

This book is not about HOW TO BE SAVED,this book is to those that are already saved in Yeshua.

The particular verse of Scripture which ET has posted, most of those professing to be a believer in Yeshua have heard this verse.

Maybe most have been told the same thing that she is spouting.

That a person is saved by what they say.

For if you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus Christ, and will believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved. Romans chapter 10.

Yet these same people do not give the full Scripture concerning the text.

For if left to just the confessing with the mouth,a person believes by what they have done, which is to confess.

Here is the full text.

Rom 10:8 But what does it say? "The Word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the Word of faith which we proclaim) Deuteronomy 30:12-14.

Rom 10:9 Because if you confess the Lord Jesus with your mouth, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Rom 10:10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses unto salvation.

Rom 10:11 For the Scripture says, "Everyone believing on Him will not be put to shame." Isa. 28:16

Notice verse 10;With the 'HEART'which does include the mind/intellect,and passions.

One believes in their 'Heart' before they can make any type of CONFESSION.

So then,Salvation depends upon TRUSTING /FAITHING into Yeshua, and not confession.

Again another Scripture which has been misunderstood, misapplied and used wrongly to the destruction of many hearing these things.

2Tim 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

2Tim 2:16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

Shalom

Mr.Bill

ps:

About repentance:

Mar 1:15 and saying, The time has been fulfilled, and the kingdom of God draws near. Repent and believe in the gospel.

No REPENTANCE of SIN(s)spoken here.

Thank ABBA For Yeshua

Thank ABBA for His Grace in Yeshua.

One thing that was said by George that was true was the epistle of Romans was written to the church.

All else is born out of the flesh and mind of man in rebellion to the word of God as is continually displayed on this board.

The topic of discusssion is how is one saved in Romans 10:

Verse six the rightousness which is of faith speaks, it has a voice, and that voice speaking faith is not works but the law of faith, which believes from the heart unto righteousness, confesses with the mouth that it believes.

Verse 8 the word is nigh thee, even in the mouth , and in thy heart, that is the word we preach and the next verse tells that word, that is nigh thee in thy mouth and in thy heart.

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Again verse 10 with the heart man believeth and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

verse 14 confirms it all in this

14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Yes the passage is to believers but it outlines clearly how one is to be saved, and responding to the gospel is not works as some would try to make you believe in their unbelief, it is an act of faith.

This word saved is in verse nine means to be delivered from among other things, and the sinner when he believes in his heart the truth concerning the lord Jesus and confesses Jesus with his mouth, he is then delivered from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of his dear son.

This teaching is in total agreement with the parable of the sower, and anything less that what was said is just gross unbelief.

:applause: PJ, PJ.... PJ... your comment was just BEAUTIFUL! MAY GOD BLESS YOU IN ALL THINGS!:applause::yay:... there are times when you are off key, but you are so on the money on this point.:applause:

If you have ever noticed, those who contradict the truth on this forum are always the ones who do not believe in the institution of the church, nor do the attend church, or do they believe in a building set aside for worshipping with other believers which is called the church on a regular bases, not do they beieve in financially giving to the church, nor havethey never been out in the community helping people in need or witnessing to others about the Lord Jesus Christ, nor do they believe in tithing whether its required or not, nor do they as Christians pay tithes based on the blessing and not the command.

These are always they who oppose the truth of what others speak about Jesus Christ, and yet they cannot explain a scripture passages or who Jesus is in thier life on a personal spiritual level. And I have yet to see any of these people give their spiritual testimony of how God delivered them from their sins and darkness, and they only can quote scriptures that pretain to their own interest and self-teachings and theology of belief without spiritual knowledge or understanding of what they say. As Paul says, they cannot affrim nothing they speak.

God bless you, Your comments are just spiritually wonderful :bow:

Mr.Bill:

PJ you are so full of yourslef,i think you might explode:

A person cannot confess to something which he or she does not have.

Confession is not TO BECOME SAVED.

CONFESSION HAPPENS BECAUSE A PERSON IS ALREADY SAVED.

There is a big difference between what you believe and what the Word of GOD actually says PJ.

And ELLA,she just loves to give you cudoes all the time, which shows that she is just as IGNORANT of the GOSPEL of Yeshua as you also are,PJ.

Jude, you know what ? When things as this happens its because the person who is opposition is trying to throw the word of God off course, and keep the focus off themselves... Passover's heart is being convicted, and this is most always the case, when a person rejects the truth in their hearts about their own personal relationships with God. Therefore, what is being said is truth that they can't face because they are in their own self righteousness of thinking they've got it going on with God.

Its called project and reflection, moving the focus of the truth AWAY from them about their own unrighteousness, that they can't face because they think they are righteous.

They also tend to personally attack the person who brings the truth face ot face, becasue they have no words on the subject matter and do not have a defense against the truth, so they use personal attacks.. you've seen this behavior before on this forum...

Romans chapter 10, says just as I have expressed and the aritcle expresses and God's word says, and Passover can't even spiritually see what oit is he is opposing or trying to defend.

The problem is that Passover doesn't believe in repenting of sins, and he opposes what scripture says about repenting f sins, and has nerves enough to say I John was written to the hirtsians. Well, so it was, but if John said there must be repentance why would this be, if as Passover states Christian believers don't have a need to repent?

Then here we are again, a person opposing God's wrd thinking he is correcting me, and Passover doesn't even beleive in going to church or pastors that God has set before the church, or repneting of yur sins, becasue when you become saved/born agin a nbelievr doesn't have to repent anymore because Jesus covered your sins no matter what you do or say, your sins have been covered... now how demonic is that thought of the devil?...

I notied Passover also said he was seated on the right hand of Jesus... well, sure is funny even James and John who walked with Jeuss and wrote the gospel word about their experience couldn't even purchase those first class seats, and Passover got'em... wonder how that could be?

Passover, So very sad, may God Himself open your eyes of undersatnding and rebuke you in your sins, and beng you to senses unto repentance...

There is so much spiritual ignorance going on on this forum... POIC said confession is done after you've been saved? ... confession of sins is done BEFORE you can be saved, and after you have confessed your sins, then there is confession of your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ... have you ever read the Godpels, or the Book of Acts... the very first sermon Jesu preached was REPENT FOR THE KINGDOM OF OD IS AT HAND!

The apostles preached repentance. Paul worte about repentance... POIC, if you say you have no sins, you deceive yourself, and the truth of God is not in you. If you say that you have not sinned (tthis includes past, present, futrue sins), you make God a liar, and His word is not in you. POIC, if you CONFESS your sins, God is faithful and just to forgive you of ALL (everyone of your sins) and He will cleanse you of ALL of your unrighteousness! Amen!

Romans 10:10: "For it is with your *HEART* that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."

God has promised "You will find Me when you seek Me with **ALL YOUR HEART**." Jeremiah 29:13 When someone is really born again through God's Word with *ALL HIS HEART* he will want to shout it from the housetops and he doesn't need any prepared sinner's prayer.

ET you quoted I John 1:5-9 which seems to have been written to only saints who claimed to be Christians and not to the lost as is shown by

I John 1:3,6.,9 & I John 2:1,3,5:

"We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us....if we claim to have fellowship with Him...If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins{See Luke 11:2-4}...**MY DEAR CHILDREN*, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense--Jesus Christ, the Righteous One... We know that we have come to know Him if we obey His commands.. If anyone obeys His word, God's love is truly made complete in Him."
