Does Faith need works?

Hello everyone:



Is this particular Scripture actually about Faith needing works,

in order to be genuine FAITH.







Jas 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

Jas 2:15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

Jas 2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

Jas 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Jas 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

Jas 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

Jas 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

IS SALVATION A 100 % FREE GIFT AND ETERNAL*REWARDS* 100% EARNED??



Those who are really saved will strive for and have faith in TREASURES and REWARDS in Heaven!!



2 Corinthians 4:18: �So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is *UNSEEN*. For what is seen is temporary, but what is *UNSEEN is eternal.



Ephesians 2:8,9: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the **GIFT** of God--not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do!"



If we are one of the called and chosen we will also be faithful and seek eternal rewards!! The only ones who will be with Jesus are the called, the chosen and the faithful as per Revelation 17:14.



Matthew 5:19,20: Jesus says, �Do not store up for yourself treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves **TREASURES** in Heaven!� Luke 12:33 adds �Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide for yourselves.. a **TREASURE** in heaven that will not be exhausted. For where your **TREASURE** is there your heart will be also!!�



22 Corinthians 6:6-10: As servants of God we commend ourselves in every way; in great endurance, in troubles, hardships and distresses, in beatings, imprisonments; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; in truthful speech and in the power of God...Dying, and yet we live on, beaten, and yet not killed; sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; **POOR**, yet making many rich, **HAVING NOTHING**, and yet **POSSESSING EVERYTHING**!!�



Hebrews 11:1,6: Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see....And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to God must believe that He exists and that He **REWARDS** those who earnestly seek Him."



Ephesians 6:7,8: "Serve wholeheartedly...because you know that the Lord will *REWARD* everyone for whatever good he does!"



2 John 1:8: "Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be *REWARDED* fully!"



I Corinthians 3:6-9: Paul said, "I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God makes things grow. The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be *REWARDED* according to his own labor. For we are God's fellow workers!"



Daniel 12:3: "Those who impart wisdom will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever!"



Matthew 5:11,12: Jesus says, "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your *REWARD* in heaven!" {See Luke 6:35}



Revelation 22:12: Jesus says, "Behold, I am coming soon! My *REWARD* is with Me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done!"



2 Corinthians 5:9,10: "So we make it our goal to please Him..For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad!"



Matthew 16:27: Jesus says, For the Son of Man is going to come in His **FATHER'S GLORY WITH HIS ANGELS**{See Matt 24:30-31;25:31-40}, and **THEN** He will *REWARD* each person according to what he has done,"



Jesus says in Rev 2:17; 3:4, 5, 21: �To him who overcomes...I will give a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it.....He will walk with Me for he is worthy... I will acknowledge his name before My Father and His angels.... I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem.....I will write on him my New Name... and I will give him the right to sit with Me on My throne, just as I overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.� According to Rev 22:3 these 2 thrones will be the only thrones in the Heavenly New Jerusalem!.



So Salvation is a 100% FREE GIFT as per Ephesians 2:8,9 and eternal *REWARDS* for God's faithful saints are 100% earned!



I Peter 1:13: �Therefore, prepare your minds for *ACTION*, and set your hope *FULLY* on the grace to be given *YOU* when Jesus Christ is *REVEALED*.:applause:

Ella says: Firstly, POIC, you must understand what these passages are speaking about as in regards to the passages before in verses1-13, which brought James came to speak about faith.

James is speaking about the different kinds or levels of faith in these passages, but you must also take in the verses AFTER these passage that you have posted, in verses 21-26.

In verse 14, James ask the question can faith saved a person without works? What he is asking is can a person say he/she is saved as in salvation, and has not shown any signs of this salvation or confessed with his/her mouth word agreeing to their salvation. and Romans chapter 10, as well as throughout Paul's writings and in Acts when Phillip baptized the eunuch, he asked his about his faith, and AFTER the eunuch confessed with his mouth his faith, then Phillip baptized him. We are taught that if we have faith we must confess with our mouth thta Jesus Christ is the Only Begotten Son of God. This is saving faith and the work is our confession with our mouth, faith to believe is also works.

If you read in verses 21-26, James goes on to explain what he means by this kind of faith as a person's faith is related to salvation.

In verses 15-16, James is speaking about faith that works, in other words, if you say you have faith to believe that God will do what He says, and then you confess that you are a Christian, and have faith in God, why not put that faith to work by helping others who are in need, and verses 16 explains the meaning of verses 15.

A person cannot say they have so much faith and yet he/she is not using their faith to do good works as God has commanded us to do by helping those who are poor and needy, a James says it profits you not thing to say you have faith without works. And We will be judged according to our good works of faith.

Therefore, James has given us faith that works and faith that sit on the sideline and talks big and does nothing BUT TALK! Faith is action! James is speaking about Saving faith and confessing faith which produces action, becasue FAITH IS ACTION, DOING SOMETHNG TO PROVE WHAT YOU SAY YOU HAVE. This is why it is IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE GOD WITHOUT FAITH! If there is no works/action/movement going on to prove your faith. Then you have DEAD FAITH and DEAD WORKS!

Therefore, put away your dead faith and dead works, and take hold to genuine fath that works, unto good deeds!

This word faith comes up a lot. I only know of two uses of the faith word, pistis...which is believing in action...the second is the "family faith" or better translated "the household"...that would be the word "faithful" used in Ephesians, first verse.

Faith also needs LOVE!!!



Now their is faith, hope and LOVE but the greatest of these is LOVE!!



Ephesians 3:16-19: "I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God."



I Peter 1:22: "Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart!"

NO. Faith does NOT "need works"!





Paul told the Judaizers in Galatians, that they were stupid and crazy for starting with the Spirit, and then decided to change over to Law

(works).





True faith will have works flowing FROM it, and that is what the book of James is dealing with.



The book of James is NOT teaching us HOW we are saved.



Jesus did that, and Paul did that, and it is BY FAITH ALONE.



The Reformers said it this way:





"We are saved by faith alone, but by a faith that is never alone."





We trust in Jesus and NOTHING ELSE to pay for our sins.



And IF we truly believe that God has shown us this mercy, it WILL show in our lives.



So, NO faith does NOT "need works", but true faith will naturally have works flowing from it.

Enlighten us so that our eyes of understanding might be open to receive the Greek interpretation of what God is saying.

What is God revealing in the Greek that is different that what I perceive He has revealed to me, Jude and others in the English? Don't just tell a person they are wrng , and then you yourself can't explain what it is that make the worng.

Since you gave he call as being wrong then it is your responsibility to also make the correction...

I stand to be corrected, and I'm sure Jude feels the same, after all we are all learning and prayerfully, we can all come to the same unity of the faith, and the knowledge of the Son of God therefore, since you called us , me in particular in error, equip us for the works of the ministry with the truth about faith, God has given to you in the Greek, being that the New Testament was written in the Greek and you have such great understanding of the Greek translation.

What says James in his writing in this chapter about faith that we should spiritually know and better understand?
