What does the Bible say about divorce?

The Bible says that God hates divorce. God does not want His children to suffer in any way and God knows how those who go through this, suffer greatly. But God loves us. He says divorce is only allowed if one spouse is unfaithful (adultery), then the other has the right to divorce but not remarry. If one is unequally yoked to a non-believer, the believer shall not leave the non-believer but the non-believer can leave the believer. I studied it well when I got my divorce...God still loves me and I am still not remarried, and probably never will be...God Bless you!

Malachi 2:16 "I hate divorce, " says the Lord God of Israel,

and I hate a man's covering himself with violence as well as with his garment." says the Lord Almighty.

Matthew 19:8-9 Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it is not so from the beginning. I tell you anyone who divorces his wife, EXCEPT FOR MARITAL UNFAITFULNESS, and marries another commits adultery."

In the Philippines the Catholic Church "forbids" divorce but in reality, many men leave their wives for another woman and marries another. Women who are victims of violence and death threats suffer in silence under the cruel hand of their supposed protectors, their husbands.

In the Bible, Moses permitted the Israelites to issue certificates of divorce if they wanted to do away with their former wives for one reason or another, rather than for the woman to suffer daily the ire of a displeased husband. But Jesus specified the only reason allowable is unfaithfulness.

In our modern times when a man beats up his wife, he is already "unfaithful" to his God-ordained covenant, "covering himself with violence" (Malachi 2:16)

Personally, I believe even God will not approve of a woman

living in marriage to an abusive and violent husband (such as a drug addict or alcoholic) and if she leaves to preserve her life and her children, she is not an adulterer, but a survivor.

Other men leave their wives and become homosexuals, therefore it is not the woman who "divorced" but the man.

God is not unjust, He is merciful.

Divorce is painful, and divorced men and women need to be forgiven and accepted back into the Church and not ostracized. Our Lord Himself never condemned them - for like any other sin, divorce can be forgiven.

In Christ alone,
