BROKEN ANGEL WINGS
by... Sharon L/w Brown
In a long gown of mud streaked white
Soiled by sins crimson stains,
Her frail spirit and weakened arms held forth
A pair of broken angel wings.
With her last bit of dignity and ceremony
She has humbly returned them home,
Sadly saying, My Lord! Theyve been through much
While I called them my own.
This left wing once shielded my dying heart
Till it could recoup and mend,
And oft this right wing has shielded my soul
From the glares and stones of man.
These blessed wings have carried me above dangers
To a calm beyond the clouds mighty storm,
Theyve taken the spirit of this modern day woman
Back to the innocence of her childhood farm.
Theyve been through battle after battle
Because of selfish ignorance attacking my life,
They have encircled me in warmth and love
When fleeting affections brought me strife.
But I am tired of their abuse!
See! Like me, they are bent and stained,
O! Sweet Lord and Savior
A fallen soul pleas mercy for her wings.
I come to lay them down to due honor
For I am no longer worthy to be the cause,
That such a precious gift from heaven
Should suffer any further loss.
I feel sad and defeated at their peril
That sin seems yet to reign,
O! Lord! Ive tried to fly so high for You
But Ive broken even these angel wings.
Confession gave way to peace
At the Lord gently smiled, then cried,
Oh troubled heart! It was for the sinner
That I once laid my own wings aside.
Into the depths of Hell I flew
Stripped of my powers and Saintly robes,
And you, like I, must overcome
That another VICTORY might be told.
Then I heard the bleating of a lamb
Saw the shadow of a Shepherd with his rod,
It seemed I heard the whispers of angels
Somehow, I felt the presence of God.
Red waters from a near by river rose to engulf me
Again, I clung to those outstretched wings,
The Lord hath washed away your sins
I thought I heard invisible voices sing.
A light before me grew bright then brighter
As sleep gave way to the dawn of morn,
And opening my eyes to that peaceful new day
I knew that somehow
The wings of my spirit had been reborn
