"We are free to choose to have good relationships and to avoid destructive ones. Jesus loved everyone and only chose 12 people to walk with Him

Some people can stay in your heart but not in your life."

...

I just saw this status on a Christian page on Facebook and wanted to share it here. What is your opinion about it?

I think Jesus didn't choose his followers, they chose Jesus much in the same way G-d offered his laws to the various tribes and people of Judea chose to follow G-d. That is the beauty of choice and if you think about it, it can only be that way.

"16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, He may give it you." (John 15:16)

Explain this verse to me...

As humans, you will always have the power of choice vested in you. Not only that, but also the ability in you to exercise that power. No one can and should curb you from the exercise of that power. In as much as God called us (because we as men do not have that power to call God to have us saved), we also have the power of choice to exercise if we will come to him or not. In as much as God is powerful, he does not lord his power over your ability to make a choice. He allows man to make his choice and let his choice rule him/her. However time to time, God appeals to man to make good use of his power of choice. Again, to the man redeemed and save by God, he instructs him to use his power of choice constructively. One way by which he does that, by making us see the kind of life he created for us through the WORD of his POWER and GRACE!

When we continue to live by his Word, how to make our choices good will not be problem. Cos the Holy Spirit in us will always guide and instruct us to good works.

Titus 2:11-14 (New International Version (NIV)) --11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say No to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hopethe appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

Sister Girassol, you made a brilliant point. Man can not choose God because man does not have that power in him/her to choose God. Do you remember the verse of the bible that says in Rom 1:28 (King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.))

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

So you can see that man in his natural state will not like to retain God in his knowledge. Again look at Ephesians 2:1-10 " And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedienceamong whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christby grace you have been savedand raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:1-10 ESV)

Thank you, SanctifiedScapegoat! May God bless you and your family as well.

I totally agree with you, Philipian! And thank you also!

I am going to leave this other Bible verse that says:

"14 For many are called, but few are chosen." (Matthew 22:13)

God bless!

"16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, He may give it you." (John 15:16)

Question:

Explain this verse to me...

Answer:

He is talking about the apostles... Chosen is synonomous with ELECT. Problems arise when you cherry pick verses, they lose their exact meaning. We have free choice, that was the argument between Lucifer and G-d...

IamSupaFly, Yes he was physically before the disciples and talking/praying with them, but in rendition, the content was not limited to the 12 disciples. He had even you and I as well as all others who will listen to the message of redemption in view that day/night while he spoke in that room to the disciples....Even while you and I weren't born! He knew us and formed us, let us remember!

John 17:20 - (King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.)) Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

John 17:20 - International Standard Version (2008)-I ask not only on behalf of these men, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their message,

Finally, looking at Ephesians 1:4, it says - King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.)

According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

We were choose by God. And he gave us power to choose in life. And we stand to be choice-checked by those selfsame choices we make....

God initiates and those called ...respond yes or no to God.

I would have to say the evidence of the state of the church in general says no more than yes.

Satan likes to mae people get angry with themselves using the own Bible and changing the point that the Bible actually is making. I just find it funny take so many days to find a verse to attack me.
