Friends Who Weren't...

When a friend breaks your heart, it is one of the most excruciating things one can go through. Were they ever a friend at all? Perhaps God was steering you away from them? I find this to be the most painful break of all...you tell them everything the way you would a lover.

Proverbs 4:23

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

I empathize with you, the only advice I can give you is not to tell your friends so much. Sometimes we leave ourselves open to being hurt, this is not to be confused with hardening our hearts, just to guard our hearts cautiously. People are not perfect, they can often hurt us without meaning to. Some are just plain untrustworthy and will hurt you at the drop of a hat, because they're upset with you, or think they'll gain something from it.

I would pray as much as you can, as often as you can to the Lord and lean on him and spend time in the word. If you need someone to write to, please don't hesitate to message me.

I love that Verse MsMarvel.

It is so very true. Often times we feel people are our friends but a true friend sticketh closer than a brother.

Thank you for your honesty. My sister and I both have suffered with friends who weren't there when we needed them. Hers were lifelong friends, and I've seen how it's torn her heart up over the last few years. So much so she has turned from the Lord because these friends are believers. You're right, people aren't perfect. I also think you're right about sharing too much. We can all be guilty of that.

Bless you. :)

Amen, Exceedingjoy...that is one of my favorite friendship verses. God has been that friend to me; I just wish my sister would turn to Him. It is also true that a friend loves through all seasons. I still love these people, and I pray for them even when it hurts, so I think that my heart is right with the Lord. I don't waste my time with bitterness or malice...I let the person go, and hope that if they were a friend, they will be back again someday.

a thousand like to Apostelle's comment..

I don't hold grudges or bitterness no matter how bad (we thought) other people did to me. I don't live the life they're living, and i'm living my own. People come and go in our lives for a reason, and for whatever it is.. it's the present that knows exactly that. Important is, i have shared a happy meal with them, and that matters for a lifetime. :dancingp:

There goes a saying: "I would rather have an enemy slap me in the face than a friend to stab me in the back". Being back stabbed and betrayed by who you considered a friend is one of the most painful things you can ever experience. It was painful for me, but it must be even more so for you ladies since you place so much more emotional attachment to any relationship.
