She Divorced me Because I enrolled into Law School: Really?
Posted : 11 Feb, 2011 07:46 PM

After years of being an evangelist/pastor, I was led to take my calling to another level. I sat and passed the LSAT and was accepted to study law by one of the law schools in Florida.

My then spouse was initially supportive and agreed to move. We agreed that I go first while she makes final plans to join me out there later in 2009.

Next thing I knew, she filed for divorce claiming that I have "backslidden" from my christian faith and ministry call by attempting to be a lawyer. She believes lawyers are evil and that a pastor should never be a lawyer. I failed to convince her otherwise. This was a new philosophy she never shared before ever I sat for LSAT - to think she was the one who prayed with me and got "confirmation" that God wills it.

I marvel at how ignorance still rule the minds of certain :christians" in a modern world.

Issue for Discussion: Can a pastor double as a lawyer and still be a true man of God?

Yes, I believe so, if you really feel that this is what God has called you to do!! I think God wants us in certain job positions for a time and then He moves us to another where He knows we are needed more!! It's all about doing His will and His work, and be open to the changes He calls us to!

Sometimes, He calls us to go it alone with just Him, and somtimes he brings us someone to walk besides us to help carry the load!!

Yes, Christians do need lawyers too and a true Christian lawyer I believe is better (with expectation one is in good hands trusting he is god fearing brethren loving) than non-Christian though not all of them are ... I believe there are non Christian lawyers out there who acts more like Christ.

Thanks GG and MM.

Both of you need to be inducted into the hall of God's famous women for having advanced and intelligent views on this controversial issue.

I have never been so persecuted by fellow believers in life. People call me up arguing furiously how they believe no christian can faithfully serve God and be an active lawyer.

Thank God for godly women like you who think differently. Both of you inspire me a great deal.

Thanks much! :applause:

My best friend since junior high is a patent and trademark attorney. He is the most ethical and charactered man I personally know. I'm nothing but blessed to be able to say he is my friend.

I grew up hearing this same viewpoint. They reasoned that a lawyer, because they must always keep their clients interests in the best light would eventually have to lie and/or be deceitful in their attempt to do their job.

I believe there is a way to do any job (that doesn't go against the Word) with integrity and character. I'm sure you will find it and you will build a reputation for honesty and TRUE justice prevailing.

Can you imagine being used as a vessel so that truth (which is God personified since He can't lie) is revealed and justice is done because of prayer and utilizing the wisdom of God?

Bring a good name back to your profession!:dancingp:

Thanks 1BG for an intelligent perspective.

By His grace I will focus on glorifying God through a pastoral/attorney profession.

Thanks much!!!

Something else to consider to strengthen your conviction in being an attorney......

"Give to Caesar what is Caesar's. Give to God what is God's"

Unfortunately, We live in Caesar's world. And we are governed by Caesar's laws. Some were handed down from God's laws. But forces currently at bay and in rule do not play by God's laws and thus INVENT new laws that only benefit Caesar. This leaves those that DO play by God's laws UNPROTECTED when having to defend against those who only play by Caesar's.

We are instructed to learn how to live in the world... but not be OF the world.

Far be it from me.... but being a Godly attorney would be far better than being a minister who has lived an ungodly life. And I think we see far too many of those these days as well.

Godly people need Godly protection......

As long as you are not led astray by the riches of Caesar, you do the world a justice by protecting those that follow God.

Just my two cents....
